Yeah man, I totally agree... Since I saw Rascalz warm up for Common here in Copenhagen, Denmark, back in 97 (or was it 98?), I just knew that their album would be straight up fire. I found the album Cash Crop on a trip to Tallinn, the capital city of Estonia, and I just couldn't stop listening to it on the Discman non stop, nostalgia.....
Damn its a shame i don't know about more Canadian it hip hop.....it just about seems like when real hip hop stop getting aired so did canadian hip hop :p haha
@area51er6 it's changed so much since this video man. I miss the Vancouver I moved to 13 years ago. This city for whatever reason is so quick to sell it's past and it's soul down the tubes for more glass, steel and concrete.
Red one !!! Remember me from Calgary Alberta at a club , I worked there and made fun of choclaire's hat and you all laughed lol and I shouldn't have because I worked there but I was in the crowd while you were performing and you gave me a CD I jumped on one of the base pins and my boss gave me supreme s*** for it but I didn't care because my best friend was a DJ and they need him and I was the best busser they ever had and I shouldn't have gotten drunk with you guys but I did lol chaclear kept giving me his drinks and same with my DJ buddy anyways you and I were talking about music and I said music's turning BASS oriented and you made a really good song with deep low Bass and I never heard from you guys again anyways I just started an online radio station called BASS AGE RADIO on TuneIn mostly electronic music but I'm making a sister station that is hip hop and rap and reggae and UK rap/i don't know what you want to call it crazy funky bass s*** lol anyways April 1st or the middle of April I'm having my grand opening in White horse for my radio station and I was wondering if you would like to be there it's going to also be a fundraiser for children's hospitals all across the world all the money raised I'm going to split it up between all the hospitals everywhere anything to do with children like burn units and whatnot anyways I really hope that you get this message and get back to me I really miss you little dude I really liked hanging out with you and I remember you told me " you're the real red one" right after we spoke to big joint outside and then you performed lol I really hope you remember all this because it meant a lot to me cuz I always looked up to you and thought you were the awesomest and I love your music anyways my email is kriss4307@gmail.com kriss4307@gmail.com
Cash Crop is one of my favorite hip hop albums of all time. It's a shame the Rascalz didn't have more success than they did (especially on a global scale) I came across them by accident. They had all the ingredients for being a massive hit, yet I don't know a single person outside of Canada that's heard of them. I must have played this album a thousand times over. It seems arbitrary, but if they came from the United States, they would have blown up the way other groups did. In terms of talent, they're up there with the likes of A Tribe Called Quest, Gangstarr, the Pharcyde, De La Soul, Wu Tang, the Fugees, Naughty by Nature, Mischief Crew, and Mobb Deep. They should have been promoted differently. It's a missed opportunity. Rap music these days has had a sharp decline. There are still a few gems to be found, but it'll never be like it was. It's a bummer.
You see now this is what I'm talkin about. This takes me back! What I love about Rascalz is that at one point they were very consistent in having b-boys in their music videos. One of the classic music videos that helped inspire me to get into breaking. This is back when I felt bad any time I missed an episode of rapcity on much. Now I don't care.
it aint all good as it use to be.. ive lost lots of friends to hard drugs mainly and violence.. shit time flys... shit i look at schools these days n it aint like it use to be..
I'm blasting this out in 2020 too but it's the first I'm hearing it and I'm wondering how did I miss this back jn the days. Amazing how a tune from 20+ yrs ago can sound so fresh!!
Cash Crop is a great album, might be the most under rated hip hop album to come out of Canada.

Big Factss
