- In the Heights has hit the big screen, and we've got a new clip, featuring Daphne Rubin-Vega singing "Carnaval del Barrio." Jon M. Chu's film, adapted from the Tony-winning musical, is officially released on June 11 and is available in cinemas and on HBO Max.
This comes so full circle. Lin was such a fan of rent and now he works with some of their actors.
and now Lin is directing a movie musical of Tick Tick Boom!
And Daphne had her musical feature film chance, considering that she couldn't play Mimi in the Rent film because of her pregnancy.
@@jpjimlo that and she said she'd make Mimi old in Rent
and now stephanie is the the VA for the lead in encanto which Lin made the songs for
he worked with the original mimi during hamilton
I love Carla’s face when she says “ Why “
Its a total mood HAHAHAHAHA 0:19
She's so cute aw♡
Shes so innocent
She's adorable
Who are you and what happened to Rosa badass Diaz
when i say the amount of CULTURE and POWER that hits me when the flamenco dancing happens gives me goosebumps everytime!
I KNOWWWW I SAW IT AND OMG I FELT MY CULTURE REPRESENTED!! THIS WHOLE SCENE OF THEM DANCING AND SHOWING THEIR FLAGS WAS SO EMPOWERING, IT HAD ME SMILING LIKE A DORK
@@francoleon252 SAME
I thought this was flamenco!!! Oh gosh I got chills watching these two ladies when they started dancing!!!
Her name is Lillian Colon. First latina ever rockette. She is 66 years old
😱
@@CarlaCostabile OMG thank you!!
The older woman who answers her call has such grace, with joy in her eyes. Lovely to see. Thanks Miranda, Chu, and Vega!
Read up on her, amazing woman! Search for "Lillian Colón" and "In The Heights" - you'll be blown away that we never heard of her before.
tejaswoman Lillian Colon! First latina rockette. She’s 66 😱
She sounds just *stunning*.
The age gap with her and Stephanie Beatriz seems so much wider than it actually is, but they're playing it so cutely I can't care too much. Also I'm so used to gay characters being like half-informed and blink-if-you-miss-it on screen and they're actually behaving like a real affectionate married pair would, it's making me realize just how much gay rep has been missing.
Also Stephanie Beatriz is a fully adult woman, age gap isn't an issue with her??
@@carolkoski4875 didn't say it was a problem, just a bit odd-looking. Visually it seems wider than just the actual 12 years which is unusual to see. Wouldn't be my business either way lol but the characters aren't real people so an offhand comment can't hurt any.
Small hints that Daniela and Carla are a couple:
1. They sleep together on the same bed, and Carla gave her a kiss on the cheek after turning on the light.
2. Notice the small cute gestures they have on each other. Even in this scene.
3. Carla holding Daniela while she's singing.
3. Daniela smacked her ass, but Carla was never bothered by it. It's where the part Carla is going to try and sing.
bc Stephanie does NOT look 40 years old
@@giovannamachado888 she so doesn't, and I want to know where she's hiding the haunted portrait because damn.
OH MY GOSH SO DANI CARLA ARE A COUPLE!!! I love seeing all the little moments they support each other
OML WAIT RLLY?? I SAW THE MOVIE YESTERDAY AND LOVED HOW CLOSE THEY WERE BUT I DIDN'T KNOW THEY WERE AN ACTUALLY COUPLE??
@@mimi-yl5bu Apparently everyone has confirmed it and I'm sooooo happy that I wasn't wrong.
I'm so here for Daniela and Carla being lovers oh my GOD.
THEYRE SO CUTE
They’re dating in the movie?
@@djrn1621 yes, the actress that plays Carla (Stephanie Beatriz) has confirmed It.
@@alanis5243 everyone has confirmed it, Daphne, Lin and Jon too 😭💕
When Lin was creating ITH... Sonny and Graffiti Pete were lovers in early drafts.
She is the freakin' best! So glad they cast her in this role!
This was my favorite scene in the whole movie…
It's a fan favorite of the stage too 😍
can we just appreciate that not only did Carla get jealous at Daniel dancing with another man but all the time she just follows her so cutely is rly defensive of her wife (or girlfriend idk) it’s so cute
Did i miss that?? Time stamp pls :c
Carla is married to a man in real life. Sorry to spoil your sick dream
@@vbin9081 don’t know wtf u meant by lesbians being a ‘sick dream’ but if you actually watch the fucking movie it starts with them waking up in bed together and Carla wakes up Daniela by kissing her. the cast and crew have confirmed that Daniela and Carla are married in the film although I’ve didn’t see Carla wearing a wedding ring but Daniela does
@@Elenichi44XD sorry it’s not in this specific clip but if you watch the full song it’s leading up to when Carla sings “Dani I have a question...” before that Daniela is dancing with a man and Carla very visibly gets angry/jealous
@@lidalu_lots4277 aww they are so cute, i love that their representation is put out so natural it doesn't need to be the center of attention, also, don't listen to the "sick dream" guy
I love Carmilla's voice.
I had a big smile during the movie when there was a quick shot of Lin during the words "la bandera Puertorriqueña"
The logical side of me is like WHY IS HE NOT OUT SELLING PIRAGUA? It's the middle of a BLACKOUT and no AIRCON, = SERIOUS MONEY TO BE MADE! Slacker!
@@becsterbrisbane6275 did you see the post credits scene?
@@Danielacce19 yep- saw it again yesterday!
0:15 Carlas face cracks me up every time 🤣
mirabel😮
I’m an African American and honestly didn’t think the film would move me much because it wasn’t my culture. But i found so much common ground from music to vernacular to personality types, etc. I couldn’t stop dancing and was emotional the entire film and couldn’t explain why. Pacencia y fe really did me in. I’ve never cried at a film like that in my life. All she gave up and experienced for a “better” life here in the states, while also longing for home. Geesh. I cannot fathom what that must be like. Absolutely beautiful and important film to represent the diversity and bittersweet experiences of Latinos and immigrants in this country. Much love and respect to you all ❤️ POC are truly the salt of the earth .
The dance was actually a white people dance based on Spainish dance (European Spain)
🎶 “I know you’re thirstin’ for vengeance, Vaggie. You’re out for blood. But you’ll only stand a chance if you’re out for love” 🎶
OUT FOR LOOOVE LOOOOOOVE
That part where she begins to clap, and everyone claps along with her as some begin to dance just gives me the chills, can't understand why that sound effect wasn't included in the soundtrack
0:51 I just need 12 hours of that opening.
Same tho. It starts off barely audible, but then it gradually gets louder.
✨satification✨
since when are latin people scared of heat!
me: scoots closer to AC.
Ikr same , I’m made for the winter not heat 😅
I get sick everytime I over heat so cold all the way

Daniela's actress is only 7 years younger than Abuela's. How does she look no day older than 40?
I think plastic surgery is the answer you're looking for... She looks weird, like you can see almost touching 60 but she uses botox or fillers or whatever
Idk what 40 year olds you know, but she definitely looks closer to 60-65 and there’s nothing wrong with that. She’s a beautiful woman no doubt, but I’m sorry she don’t look 40 by any stretch of the imagination.
Olga Merediz is 65, Daphne is 51. I'm sorry, but you've been misinformed.
@@thejoashgrahamshow who are you taking too? Apparently some sources say she was born in 1969 and some say 1968. I don’t know. I swear at one point IMDB said she was born in 1960..but now it says 68. Idk. If 1969 is right than she looks way older than she is, definitely not younger. Compared to someone like Selma Hayek who’s actually 2 or 3 years older, she looks mature for her age. Still beautiful, but not passing for 40 by any means
They also made the actress for abuela look a lot older than she is
I am so here for Daniela being a Puerto Rican Lesbian Queen 😩😩
She’s Panamanian 🇵🇦🤍
@@kirajohnson2622 oh but in the musical Daniela (character not actress) is puerto rican
@@antixky yeah i know even though the movie was amazing and it was other countries like Panama don’t really get portrayed sadly

Daphne and Stephanie singing here and then on the Hazbin Hotel 😄😄
HEELPP OMG TRUE!! FIRST THERES THIS THEN WHATEVER IT TAKES
Daphne Rubin-Vega is great in this film. She also did great in Hazbin Hotel as Carmilla Carmine
Stephanie is vaggie
I loved this beautiful musical, everything about it was of the highest quality, the acting, singing, story, dancing. Best of Hollywood.
I just finished it- BEST MOVIE EVER LIKE DONT EVEN ✋🏻😭
Anyone remember Rosa's scene in the 99 where she was talking to a salon beautician while Gina dictates what she saw???
“ I want a perm”😂
So this is Vaggie and Carmilla's VA's. I can't wait to see them in Hazbin Hotel
That's exactly why I'm here
Hey! Im the real adam
Daphne Rubin Vega was absolutely stunning and still is stunning. I remember i was at a @Theater of War Productions zoom event which she took part of and i fanboyed out that she was there.
Watching this after Hazbin Hotel is soo cool
SHE HAS A MAGNIFICENT VOICE❤
This clip cuts off the beginning. When Ms Daphne starts this song it took my breath away. Amazing!!1

Her voice is gold
"Ask me why"
"Why?"
Lmao I don't know why but the way she said it and the face she made made me laugh 😂
Ms daphne!! What an icon!!!
im so excited for this movie
This is my 2nd favorite ITH song and my inner Andrea Herrera of Colombia, my ensemble character for when I was in the high school drama club for five years and we did 'In the Heights' back in 2014, just exploded when the song started!!
Carmilla Carmine lookin crazy
Ahhh! I just wanted it to keep going on forever
Yes. THIS IS MIRABLES VOICE ACTOR!!!

Viva chileee
I love how in the back, you can see El Salvador’s flag☺️
In the clip? Or in the complete scene? I replayed the clip after reading your comment, and no matter how I squint, I do not see la bandera guanaca 🇸🇻 😕
It Vaggie and Carmilla
Flamenco from Spain 🇪🇸 💃 I’m so excited 😆
The guy in orange 😍... Latino men are so handsome
at the end of this song, when the power comes back, you can hear the goat scream that we all know
Se me pone la piel de gallina con este poder de la gente mostrando su cultura
Daphne Rubin Vega, the original Mimi ladies, gentlemen and non-binary folk!
Best song and scene in the whole movie! 🥰❤
“since when are Latin people scared of heat” ICONIC 😎
The fact that i only looked for this because i thought it was from a deleted encanto scene.
You're right. It does sound like it would be from Encanto!
Love this film
for those who watched this not because of mirabel… you are a *legend*
I’ve been trying to find this movie forever 😢😢😢
I am so ready to watch this! AND I will be even better prepare when they start filming "Hamilton" with the original cast, of course :D
I saw it twice
@@ericthomason3307 I already watched it. It is a very enjoyble movie indeed. However I missed "sunrise" from the original Broadway show :)
Stephanie as Carla is so much different than in Brooklyn Nine-Nine
The casting for this adaptation is perfectó!
Stephanie is such a wonderful actress on who simp on, she makes a majestic shapeshifter
OK so im not gonna lie I heard her voice as singer in the show hazin hotel and I wanted more.
Carla and Daniele 😍
Just gonna ignore that Carmella and Vaggie's voice actors were there
When the old lady got up and danced.....I broke down
Does anyone know the name of the lady in the orange/peach dress and dancing flamenco? I want her name to be known to the world - she is just electrifying in that moment.
Thanks to somebody else in the comments on one of these videos, I can tell you that her name is Lillian Colón, that it turns out she was the very first Latina Rockette, and part of how she's in the movie is that she was the only one in her age range to audition!
@@tejaswoman ... many thanks. Using your info, I went and found this.

I don't know how to put it, but the moment i saw her slowly standing with her hands up, I thought 'i'm about to witness something beautiful' in amazement, this is my favorite part in this sequence. I love flamenco, thank you for pulling attention to her.
Just to clarify that's not flamenco. Flamenco is culturally just from Spain (no one in Hispanic America would ever feel representated by Flamenco) and it's just wrong they tried to portrait it here
Carmilla Carmine
My jaws just dropped
I'm speechless 😯
Hard to see Rosa so happy and singing
“what would Jesus do”
Best quote of the year
I love the little why
YALL I WATCHED IT TODAY AND ITS LIT
for all my Hazbin Fans...
