I recognize that tune! ;-) that was literally the first non-pregame tune I ever played with the WVU band in 1990. Looking forward to being loud again Saturday ;-)

Opener: Walk Them up the Stairs into Old Man River. A power combo if there ever was one.
    Slaughter on 10th Avenue
    Closer: My Favorite Things
I believe that is a 400 piece band, the largest of that era. Other than the brilliant drill by Director of Bands Don Wilcox, the great arrangements by several including Dave McCullough, the reason this show looked so good was because it was the centerpiece of a multi-day "traveling dog and pony show." (Don Wilcox quote)
One purpose of the band was to represent West Virginia University around the state and serve as a recruiting tool. This tour took us through the middle of West Virginia and included a performance at Marshall's Thundering Herd football stadium. We would perform the show, drive an hour or two and perform it again. By the time this show got Virginia Tech it was a highly polished monster.
As Lee mentioned in the opening comments, when the band got a standing ovation after the opener, they had turned around an otherwise hostile Virginia Tech crowd. This was one of the greatest moments in the history of the Pride of West Virginia.
