It’s pretty messed up that (if I remember correctly) Embiid had France give him citizenship essentially in exchange for him playing for their team. Then he got his citizenship and told them to kick rocks, he wants a gold medal and that’s it.
He has no integrity at all. He's also not above deliberately injuring opposing players, particularly those tasked with defending him. He did that to Mitchell Robinson this playoff season.

You’re forgetting Team Canada didn’t play SGA or Murray in the 4th quarter. They let the bench play against some of US’s starters.
USA's second squad played 80% of the 4th.
USA Starters had a tough time vs Canada's starters. USA's bench saved them. Murray could have kept the USA at bay but he was colder than the Arctic. They had a double digit lead when the benches came in.

From what I was able to lightly "research", for some countries that compete in international competitions they need insurance. Like financial insurance to guarantee their team players professional contracts in case they get hurt internationally. So tldr, Cameroon and many other countries dont have enough money to cover the big name stars so that is why we see these players choose other countries to represent.

Canada is not the second best country in the tournament. Serbia trounce them easily without Jokic in the semi finals of the World Championships last summer. Serbia,France and Germany are all better teams than Canada.

Canada have the hole in the paint. Serbia's third best center is the better player than Canada's starting center. Centers are very important in the international game. Also all those players on other top national teams are playing professionally in Europe at the highest level and they are more acclimated to FIBA style of basketball. Canada wont win the medal this year.

It never made sense to me since I thought people were sleeping a bit on Bam. I know he is not a giant but these national teams tend to be smaller then NBA teams so Bam at C or PF should work well to have a good 2 way player that can run the court. I never got why Joel was on the team until I saw someone say he is just trying to get a easy medal and that is sadly probably the case.
I think if anything Embid can get in better shape playing in the summer. As a Philadelphia native I don't think he's never been in top shape and sometimes constantly working will help. I don’t agree with Joel being on the team. You should only be able to play for the country you were born in. When other world teams see us coming they say “here come the Americans” and they are not all American. They say he could have played for 3 teams, but chose to play for the USA🤔. Like how can you jump between countries like that? In real life they call that being a spy, or agent. Joel needs to be respectfully dropped from the team and let him go represent his birthplace.
