I'm glad that you decided to continue exploring this true ocean of good music, created and performed by Nightwish for more than a quarter of a century. Of course, you have a new subscriber here.
I am convinced that you will continue, because what you heard intrigued you. Get ready for a great diversity, where each of their songs has its own individuality. You may not like all of their songs, but you certainly won't get bored :)
    All the best, from Romania!

For perspective, I am 70 years old and my first live rock concert was the Yardbirds in 1966. I’ve heard just about everything since then and Nightwish live recordings circa 2013 - 2020 are at the top music produced this century. Their catalog is huge, so one will inevitably like some songs more than ever, but I guarantee that if you continue exploring you will discover at least a dozen songs you’ll want on your permanent playlist.

There are so many Nightwish fans that it's inevitable that some are "a bit" to harsh or overprotective ... most of us are very nice and loving, just as the band is. Everyone who has ever been to one of their concerts can tell you the fans are the nicest people you will ever meet in such great numbers. Thank you for the beautiful reaction, Sir, and for giving this crazy good band a chance! Stick to the live tracks is my only advice....😊

I was much into old rock, 70s stuff. The likes of Pink Floyd, Alice Cooper, Deep Purple etc. Goes with my age - that was kind of my era. But shortly after first hearing NW back when they were starting out nearly 30 years ago I was hooked. IMO the best band there's ever been. Every song very different except that they're all awesome.
Perhaps me also being a classical symphonic music fan helped. The band and its various members' side projects range from harsh heavy metal through folky stuff and heavily classically influenced music. The composer of most of Nightwish's songs is an epic movie score fan - and it shows.
Singer Floor Jansen's voice is what she wants it to be. From harsh metal screams and growls to hard rock, gentle ballads, to Grand Opera. She does it all.

Totally agree with you: The music of Nightwish gets into you, no matter what kind of music you normally like. It might not become your favourite band, but I think no one can deny their musical talent and their tasteful creativity.
Honest reaction is always the best reaction. Tell us what you like and what you don't like, so we can suggest the best ones for you from their catalogue.
In your last reaction you mentioned, that you liked the irish/celtic vibe, so I'd go on with "I want my tears back" from Buenos Aires 2018. Or you could try the instrumental "Last of the wilds" from Wacken 2013.

As a Crue fan for 20+ years, if someone offered me tickets to go back in time and see them at the top of their game (aka Girls Girls Girls, or Dr Feelgood) or to go to this show. I would 1000% choose this show, or any Nightwish show to be honest.

Totally agree. I saw Crue (5x) , Metallica (7x), Whitesnake, Korn, Maiden, Megadeath, Dokken and many more in the 80's and 90's. The only concert that would rival the Nightwish 2023 show would be when I saw Queensryche during their Empire tour and they played the entire Mindcrime album. I think it was 1990 or 1991.

Elan is a perfectly 'fine' song, but its quite standard, nothing to get super excited about, so I get your reaction to it. GLS is something else entirely. Most people even if they dont like the song much still appreciate Floor and the creativity. It has something for everyone.
Floors voice is just power, its a stronger richer, more mature sound than is popular (or common) in female voices right now. Most are really squeaky and nasal. Of course this video has some post production to clean up the mix, but no pitch correction, no autotune, its all her.

    • @HeavyTopspin
      @HeavyTopspin 3 дні тому

It's the difference between pop and metal, particularly metal from Europe. This is even getting more pronounced when more and more female vocalists in the metal space have begun incorporating growls and screams into their vocals.

Whatever guard you have up, when Floor's voice comes in she cut's thru it like a fresh sharpened butcher knife and get's you right into your soul and while your bleeding out you feel satisfied.
When Floor goes into her emotional mode you can sleep in the finnish winter outside in the woods and still be warmed by her voice and feel comfortable.

NIghtwish with Floor on vocals is such an amazing band. They can vary in sound from song to song, so don't let one video form your idea of what the band sounds like. They can change it up from song to song or even mid-song! They can get much heavier, or much lighter. SO many great songs to choose from.

Hi 🙋🏼‍♀️ Nightwish army member from west Germany coming in 😊 dont let a few overacting fans destroy the joy to experience Nightwish. Glad that you tried again. Feel free to share all your thoughts without hesitation. I prefer honest reactions, even if you dont like something I of course truly love, so that said I hope you check out more Nightwish in the future.
It's very funny to watch how you are actually quite reserved at the beginning due to the experience of your first reaction but your face reveals that Floor and the Nightwish guys are pulling you over to their side as the song progresses 😊❤
Every song is something special. If you like the more classic rock style I recomment "seven days to the wolves" live at Wembley. I guess you will like it. And always go with the live performances if possible, they all are something else.

That "old feel" is propably the fact you like classical music and symphonic metal - Nightwish especially, is composed following the same ages old classical rules of different notes and melodies creating certain emotion in music. That is where the composer of Nightwish gets his nickname "Metal Mozart". Its not just words and beats - the emotion is in the music. The lyrics and singing melodies just compliment and amplify the emotions - and that illustration is Floors superpower as a singer and thats why she is such a perfect fit for Nightwish.
Elan is very different mood by purpose. Its meant to be easygoing celebration of life. Every Nightwish song is different in that way. They are more like separate stories or movies from the same writer. And its not like they make a song sound metal or Nightwish, they instead compose the music to tell and fit the story they are trying to tell.
You say "this is not my usual music", but if you like classical music it actually very much is. Its just heavy classical music with drums and guitars..😂

Floorgasm. There is no strain in her when she sings regardless of how she's sing or the tones she reaching for. Trained classical but always metal primarily till about 2019 when she expanded into her solo projects. Imo she is a master of her instrument.

Elan was not a great song to start with. On that one, Tuomas put the Nightwish point-of-difference in the bottom drawer and came up with a song that anyone else could have come up with. He actually wanted to drop that song from the album
GLS is at the opposite end of the spectrum and probably leaves a lot of people thinking "do I want to listen to two hours of this type of stuff?"
There is a lot of amazing "middle ground" where the Nightwish point-of-difference shines through in a way that is more satisfying to more people.
Try Storytime.from the same concert..a song I would describe as pop metal. Also😅 Bless the Child ...perhaps my favourite from Wacken 2013

You know what, I personally really appreciate it when a reactionary says his own opinion directly. it doesn't matter if you completely disagree with me. it is precisely your opinion that I came to listen to. sometimes it annoys people who you can see that they really didn't like what they heard but can't admit it. oh that moment when Floor starts his song. your expression is; wait a minute, this is actually not bad at all.. Never ending story, absolutely wonderful movie and book ❤️, so I know exactly what you mean.
you're not stupid so don't call yourself stupid (this is what I say frankly as a Finnish, 45-year-old woman and I mean this with all respect) how exciting it is to be with you on this musical journey, so of course I subscribed to your channel. This song is more of a ballad, albeit a big one. I personally love going heavier, which I think you like too. many people here have also recommended many very good songs from which to continue. so right now I won't add any more songs to this. thanks for the honest opinion and hopefully we'll see you in the next Nightwish reaction.

The Poet and the Pendulum. This song is one of Tuomas's (Keyboards) most personal songs, dealing with Tarja Turunen (original singer) leaving the band and his feelings. The song at its time was the longest Nightwish song in duration and is now the second longest song, only to The Greatest Show on Earth. Clocking at around 14 minutes. The song is divided into 5 sections, each with different themes and styles being applied: White Lands of Empathica, Home, Pacific, Dark Passion Play, and Mother and Father.

Hello from Nightwish Army Sydney Australia. Subscribed for your Nightwish journey. This song is the gateway drug for Nightwish. You don't have to say anything we can see your reaction by your face and body language. I have never encountered any toxic Nightwish fans apart from the one or two who preferred Tarja as the singer.

All you need to read the comments from reactions of people who have not praised Nightwish and you see a lot of toxic comments. I am not sure what exactly toxic means in here, but reactors have been called with all kinds of names if they have not liked Nightwish. There are quite many who don't understand and accept that symphonic metal is not for everyone. I haven't seen anyone saying negative things about their skills, just have not been into this music.
There is a reason why most reactors don't say anything negative. You can watch people reacting to any band or singer and probably 95% is positive. That is how you get views and subscribers. It is more eye-opening in many ways to read comments and watch reaction videos of people who don't like it or have criticism. Of course less fun for fans.
I have felt quite bad for some reactors after reading comments from Nightwish fans. Extremely rude text. At least some reactors did not come back to Nightwish after that.
Of course those people are a small minority.

As for other Nightwish songs, go straight for the next 2 songs after this one, which are also the last 2 songs of this Wacken 2013 concert/performance:
    - Song Of Myself
    - Last Ride Of The Day
And for good measure, just include the “Outro Speech” between both songs.
Especially Floor’s intro speech to “The Last Ride Of The Day” will give you a fine idea about what she is able to do with just her voice. If that ain’t proper screaming I don’t know what is.
And even listening to these 2 songs will scratch just the surface of the possibilities Floor has with her voice.
For something COMPLETELY different you might e.g. watch her cover of “Shallow”, a song originally by Lady Gaga.
    Enjoy the ride!

Your right about a battle or a boss scene in a game. The Orchestra mostly are backing tracks because taking a real orchestra on tour around the world would be very expensive the British Philharmonic Orchestra has a good relationships with Nightwish Don't worry I'm an Eighties Metal fan old school but Nightwish is an enquired taste like a fine wine you crack open from time to time. Floor the lead vocalist can growl started singing in After forever aged 16 as a backing vocalist and later there lead. She the started a band Revamp before Nightwish. Do check out some of Revamps music to get a better feel of what Floor can do metal wise. Nightwish is a band i could introduce my grandparents and children to and not freak out.

There is literally something for every type of fan from any genre in the Nightwish rabbit hole. If you didn’t like something previously, most of us would advise you to try a different track. Very few of us are rude, but we are passionate, and if you’re not prepared it can seem overwhelming. I hope you continue your exploration, and I have subscribed in the hope you do. Great reaction Justin!! Some heavier rock ones that I happen to love are Romanticide, Storytime, Yours Is An Empty Hope. They do a really awesome version of The Phantom of the Opera. If you want a truly epic one… The Greatest Show on Earth is over 20 minutes long and is genius for sure. Truly they are incredible from their vocals to the instrumental arrangements! Thank you for reacting to Nightwish!!

I just began watching. I paused to write: You mentioned you would say if you liked it or not or otherwise. I like that sort of honesty. I seldom see reactors admit they didn't like a song. Nothing wrong with not liking a song. Most of us should be mature enough to accept that.
    On with the show...

"Ghost Love Score" is an epic song! I heard this song back then in January of 2019....and I was hooked! I listen mainly to Nightwish, adding some 1970's bands I really loved in high school and college! Boston, AC/DC, Foreigner, The Scorpions, Toto, add in Daughtry, and Within Temptation. That's my basic bands I listen to...although...Led Zeppline ends up on my play list once or twice a monrh!

The poet and the pendulum is a great one to react to. It's very popular among us Nightwish fans.
If you want to explore Nightwish beyond Floor's voice only the bass player sings in Master Passion Greed. Still a Nightwish song just only Marko sings in it and not Floor. BTW Floor is my favorite and the best singer that Nightwish has had in my opinion. They've had 3 different lead singers. They have a big catalogue of songs. Marko is the bass player that you see with the long blonde hair.

Man, I really, really liked your reaction. You can see how you’re struggling to find the right words, which says it all.
As for toxic people, just this. As soon as something starts to become “religious”, things will go off the chart in a negative way. It just means, the people this applies to cannot stand criticism, don’t like losing and/or are not able to manage certain situations.
However, that is their problem. Don’t make it your problem. It’s not your fault they cannot handle it.
The only thing you can do is try to stay positive and answer them in a positive way. Which is kind of what you’ve being doing in this video IMHO.
If they keep coming at you with “negative energy”, ignore them. Don’t waste your time on them. They’re not worth it. They’re probably not even true Nightwish fans. Some might even be bots, out there to pester people. Don’t get yourself involved in that. You can’t win, and you will not gain anything by trying.
All that being said, one of the better “regular people” (i.e. as opposed to professionals like voice coaches etc.) reactions I’ve seen in a long time. Really liked it.

Nightwish is or at least was heavily influenced by 80's metal and it sounds in their production. Person who has listened to the 80's metal will get familiar old sound when listening to Nightwish. Lot of Metallica, Pink Floyd and maybe some Megadeath etc.
Of course I don't mean copying, but similar sound. If your father played it, then it is not a surprise that this felt familiar.

What Gabriel said! Nightwish Army, Blue Mountains Corps, Australia. 'straya mate! 🇦🇺 🤘 Something for everyone in the Nightwish catalogue! "that's not an axe! this is an axe....." LOL! "Daddy never should have raised me on Black Sabbath" - a line from an FIR song. Marko, the bass player here in Nightwish, used to sing covers, including Black Sabbath, when the singer was changing her costume! "High Hopes" - their tribute to Pink Floyd - was probably one of the most impressive back in 2005 - ua-cam.com/video/4oEDnVeYYyM/v-deo.html&ab_channel=ediaz89 Floor's empathy for the lyrics is palpable! I think that's what you meant. Made sense to me! This track, GLS, from 2004, is one of the outstanding orchestral compositions of the keyboard player and lyricist - Tuomas Holopainen - THE Metal Mozart! Symphonic metal at it's best! Live!

Great to have you back! I've read the comments in your previous video, but I honestly don't feel what you felt. I guess it has also to do the difference in cultural communicating styles. I work in an international company were I work with all cultures and quite a lot of neurodivergent people. The best advice I can give you is, don't read between te lines. If it is not written, it is not written.
I am from the north of Europe so quite direct and I personally sometimes have issues with for example with the passion south Americans react/speak, but I the quiet politeness of Asians and the political correct style Americans communicate. So please don't worry to much, what other say or how they say it. It's your channel, your content and not everyone needs to be on board. That's okay. And if you feel someone is being a jerk twice, you block them. This is your world 😊 don't be insecure, you already did this.

Nightwish fan and new subscriber here. I'm also from Texas. I grew up on 70's rock. Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Lynard Skynard, ect. In my opinion the 80's were generally horrible for music. The 90's ok. 2000's and beyond so so. In 2021 or 22 I got introduced to Nightwish. My interest in them lead me to the European metal scene. Again this is my opinion but the best rock/metal is coming out of Europe and Scandinavia.
Please continue to check out more Nightwish but also be on the look out for the following bands:
    Epica (Netherlands)
    Jinjer (Ukraine)
    Lacuna Coil (France)
    Ad Infinitum (Swiss and German)
    Unleash the Archers (Canadian)
    Bloodywood (India)
    The Hu (Mongolia)
    Otyken (not a rock/metal band but amazing...Siberian)
    Amaranthe (Sweden?)
    Spiritbox (Canadian)
    Electric Callboy (German)
I'm a Texan and proud American. But I have to say other countries are blowing us out of the water in terms of great music. Almost every band I mentioned has either released an album within the last 2 years or has an upcoming release. All of them are still active in the industry.

Nightwish is best enjoyed live. Truly, this is a live band, so never expect the album version to hit you as hard. This song in particular was sung by their first vocalist and is night and day to what you listened to here. Very soft, almost distant sounding. I'm not a fan at all of the recorded version. I found it incredibly underwhelming, considering their live sound. I've found that to be the case with 99% of their catalogue. As for Elan (Ay-lan), that one was a grower for me. First listen was...well, this is pretty but not memorable. I've heard it many times since then, and yeah. That pretty little song grew on me. The lyrics are beautiful and it's such a peaceful song. It's on the playlist I load up when I'm gaming now. I know most people will recommend more stuff from this concert and stuff from 2015, but if you dare - jump ahead to 2022 and go find Tribal from Hellfest. It was hot as hell for that festival and they cranked up the heat even more. It also gives you a picture of what current Nightwish looks like.

I can understand Elan not really being that impressive. It's a song that gets played on the radio. Most of their songs you'd never hear on the radio though (unless you're in Finland maybe). They're often longer and unlike 'radio songs' often have different time signatures in the same song and more written like how a symphony is structured than a simple popsong. With that you get sucked into it wanting to know what will come next. Like a good story or a movie.
