From experience, going up one heat range on the spark plug can help keep the plugs cleaner, just be sure to check the porcelin for plug overheating (typically one heat range wont cause this but good to check). Also check your initial timing. Every engine likes something different but on my tunnel ram/BBC combo like a healthy initial timing which meant limiting the total timing (base + centrifical advance = total) with a limit bushing.
