Don’t ever let them walk away to another machine where u can’t see and don’t ever let them keep your tickets even if they say it’s not a winner tell them give it back and always recheck online.
They've been stealing lottery tickets for years. That's why I go to the lotto store
Had some woman try this on me in Southern Missouri when I passed through there. At first I thought she was stupid. I'm convinced it's just part of her scheme to steal tickets. They could win various amounts (this ticket was a game with numbers, not a scratcher ticket, BTW).

It might be state by state. When I was going attending college. I worked at a gas station, and no employee was able to purchase any lottery tickets on or off the clock.

They should do like here in Canada, where you can’t play at the store you, your family, or relative owns, or cash out any tickets sold at your store either. This prevents store owners from not scanning people’s tickets and trying to cash them out themselves.
That happened to my friend, she had a 3k winner and when they scanned it, they crumpled it up and threw it away, she says hey give me my ticket back, they tried to give her a diff ticket, she plays the same numbers so she knew which one belonged to her. She had to call the police in order to get it back’
I had that happen to me in Helendale CA.
I had a winning scratch off guy said it was a looser and refused to give it back. Have ur 5 bux chump what ever lol

I used to be a casher in a small food store , and one day this lady came in and said ''I won 50$ '' and she was so happy , After checking her ticket i saw that she won 5,000$ and I said ''Madame it's not 50$ but 5000$ and you will have to go to loto quebec to cash it '' Any crooks would of give her 50$ and keep the lottery for himself, the woman was breathless ....My advise : double check your ticket yourself . Sorry for my english , not my first language ...Cheers.

The clerks have the ability to turn the winning sound off when scanning your tickets. And the machine is always placed where you can't see it.
They do this in California as well. I came in to my local corner liquor store one morning and the owner was checking winning tickets one after the other. $200 $300 and so on and he got startled when I saw him. I asked how he did it and he didn't want to talk about it as he put them in his pocket. Later that day I came back and told his employee about what happen and they defended him, but I told them I was going to check with California lotto and see if it was legal. A month later the store was sold and he was gone like a bandit taking the money and ran. How long was he doing this and how do we the consumer have any chance on winning anything if these rats are making off with the winnings?
Know it's late but, how was he checking them? With a special light? I read they can use one to see the winners.

@@patricew.4010 they can just scan them like a lot of them do. Many of us have witnessed employees and owners scanning tickets. I would never buy one from behind the counter, and refuse to play scratchers. Too much cheating. It’s the consumer that always get cheated, while cheaters continually win. Not enough is being done to protect honest people. 😡
All the states should follow the same procedure. One time I won $50 in a scratch off ticket in a convenience store ran by middle eastern personnel. The man only gave me $5. I told him it was a $50 winner and he argued it was $5 and showed me the ticket, but the ticket he showed me was not the same one. And he argued thst was the ticket, I asked him to see the ticket's number and the last number on the same ticket of the unsold stock and he refused and asked me to leave. Months later the same store was charged with food stamps EBT fraud.
It's really simple. They scratch a little bit off where you can still see the 3 digit code with a magnify glass. So they scan it themselves inside the store if it lose they sell it. If it's a winner they cash it.
I always print a zerox copy of my winning ticket no matter how big or small it is just to make sure....🤑

It might be a good idea if you have a winning ticket, to take a picture of it with your ID card next to it. There's your proof.
In South Dakota we have a phone app you can scan your own ticket to see if it’s a winner or not, still have to go to a retailer to cash it in but at least you know

This happened to me many times. There was a cashier at the gas station that kept my winning tickets, so I started number each one of my tickets so he could not keep my winnings. I complained to the store manager what was happening and they did nothing about it.
What's wrong with all you dumb people? I don't understand why would anyone buy a ticket and not look online which numbers won. Why do you need to go to a gas station for that? Wtf. No surprise you are all ripped off.
It is plain simple, check and sign your tickets be aware,scums come in all breeds and colors.

About 30% of all these independent gas station convenience stores who sell scratch-offs go through all the tickets with a special light to see if there's any big wins and they'll pick them out. I only buy my scratch-offs from the machines and trusted sources.

Hey I work at a store, my machine makes a sound when someone wins...and we have the scanner so they can check before they even hand us anything..
Thats all complimentary of these scum bags who scammed the lottery ..... Now we have a different system in place like you have at your work before you had to either trust the store cashier or check it out yourself wich lazy people dont do those are the people that got took ..... Rule #1 never trust a stranger .....

I knew of a store owner in Akron, Ohio who was constantly winning the lottery , she appeared 3 times in the television show Cash Explosion where you send in a ticket with the word Entry three times to enter the chances to be selected as a contestant, plus she had in display few $5,000 winning tickets won by her. Obviously, she scratched the hell of thousands of tickets or she scammed people of their winning tickets.
I'm glad i have an eye for these scammers. A lady at a convenient stores asked me how much I won on a scratcher.. I said I Know how much just scan it and it will tell you. Sometimes people don't Know they won or not sure the exact amount. She was trying to cash in

Do not play scratch tickets that you do not understand or do not know how to play. If this happens sign it 1st. If they say it is a loser ask for it back.

People need to make sure not to give the tickets to employees to scan, use the machine they have available to do so and never give your ticket to anyone to put away, always make sure to sign it. Also, if possible download the app to scan your tickets in the privacy of your own home.
I wish all states with a lottery would do the same....produce a LOUD winning sound and "sign your ticket" campaign. I am surprised that people are still giving their tickets to someone else to check for them when you can do it yourself!

Here in California it's widespread. Pinning, switching, & outright lying. This has been going on the last twenty years at least. No store owner is that lucky! All. Over. America.
And also if you do this and cheat people out of millions or hundreds of thousands, deportation should be immediate and swift with no chance to appeal. That should take care of the problem quick.
The Problem is, with Deportation, the Thieves will steal like a Million, get deported to their home country,and live like a Multimillionaire since a lot of Countries are Developing Countries and a Million USD is like 10 Million there.

I know most of the stores in New Jersey have them but I have seen some stores without it. Or out of service. But when they scan the ticket it automatically pops up on the computer screen in front of your face also. At least here it does

I won 25k dollars at a gas station in Puerto Rico and the girl said that I didn't win anything. But I heard the sound and asked for my ticket. She said that she threw it away. My luck was that the Highway Patrol officers walked into the gas station and I told them what happened. They searched the trash cans and found my ticket which was signed by me when I bought it.
The gas station lost its license for lottery tickets and cigarettes and alcohol. It was a Puma Gasoline Station in Hormiguros Puerto Rico on highway number two near Highway 345. It took me months to get my money because the ticket was evidence at the trial. The good thing about it was that I didn't have to pay any taxes on the money.

I think the bar code can be read before a ticket is scratched. Very ease to scan a loser and then sell to the next customer to come in that wants that particular game.

@@ohreally8349 It's VERY possible. There was a news segment on a guy who was doing just that. Micro scratching to see which scratch offs were winners and which ones were losers. He sold the losers and kept the winners and cashed them in. He was eventually charged,arrested, jailed, and lost his license.
In California the store owners have some way to find out which tickets are winners and they definitely are going though them They have a family member claim it

Yes it is very commen for a retailer to cheat you .as when I was a retailer I would get people to sign before they hand it to the store.that was long before it became law to sign.there are many honest retailers out there I would be the first one to get these people in jail .please find a store where you are treated with respect and care for you as my wife and I did for 30 years.and made 3 families millions. Now you know why you have to ask for a receipt from certain shops when buying food etc. Answer so they can charge you whatever they want and you have no proof. Only use cash as well.

And this is true.. this is why when ever I take a winning ticket in any lottery agent I state to them to expose that display window towards me so that I may see what it states. If they give u problem's about doing it. Take your ticket(s) someplace else.
I went into a Kangaroo the check my ticket,they have a scanner in front of the counter that you can scan your ticket yourself and it will tell you if you won free tickets or cash money in the amount you won.My ticket said I won $27.50.I gave the girl my ticket and told her I won some money.SHE scanned it and told me I won $12.50,I said the scanner said it was $27.50. Well she went into a crazy answer about some glitch,etc..But I did get my $27.50...They still will rip you off if you don`t pay attentionnn.

Scratchers can b fun playing & u could even win, say, $10M playing our state (CA) $30 game (now "BONUS MILLIONS), but beware of retailers like those in Florida, Georges Raffoul & son), who personally claimed over $1-3 M, defying both odds & committing fraud. These people should b arrested, indicted, tried, convicted, & sentenced with mandatory deportation for ruining a good thing & stealing the hard earned $ of working people. I always thought that the people as well as owners couldnt play their own lottery tickets.They had to go to other stores if they wanted to play. What i can't figure out is are they misleading people and telling them there ticket is a loser and then keeping it to themself or are they actually cashing a winning ticket in twice because thats what it sounded like to me. I know in my area if you have the place scan your ticket the machine makes a musical noise so you know you won.

I'm lucky I live in the capital of New Jersey I can just take my ticket 10 minutes down the street to the Lottery Commission if I'm not sure. I won the 30,000 grand prize for my $2 scratcher some yrs ago..shit was an amazing experience..i threw the eff up from excitement lol..State of Nj took 25% off the top, so when I got my winnings a week later I had a check for $22,500. God that was a blessing‼

If u look on the back it tells u the odds. Like every 4 tickets is a winner. 1:4 so all they have to do is watch who loses and then take the 4th or 5th one..

I tell you i use this all the time, I watch people wen they buy scratch offs, if they buy 2-3 tickets and they go in the trash i go right behind and buy 2 more, 2 days ago I saw an old man buy 2 $10 tickets from the machine he scratched and threw away both of them I went behind and bought the same ticket and and i won $200, I've done this a couple of times with success, so YES for every looser there is a higher change for the next to be a winner

The news said he cashed in winning tickets but not all tickets come from his store , the trick is he bough winning tickets from other winners whose couldn’t cash themselves or were on public assistance & can’t claim big amount $ , usually he can cash $1000 winning ticket for $500 or $600 then he can have someone claim for the full amount

They shouldnt be allowed to win. Imagine me raffling off tickets for a prize im giving away, only to win it myself. I would have expected more from a lottery corporation that only handles money. Cmon, you couldnt find anything when you investigated? How do you know he isnt stealing lottery ticket rolls from another store? Liquor store owners have their own group, and stay with themselves most of the time. I bet this liquor store was exchanging money for foodstamps too.

Once I went to check my lottery ticket in Slough England and I was new in the country and didn’t know much of scratch cards lottery ticket,after scratching my ticket Then I asked the staff (both man and woman were white British) after checking they started to look each other with mean-full eyes contact then they told me you haven’t won it and they didn’t return my ticket and immediately started to shutting down the shop ,it was 1996-97,and up till now I sometimes I think I must have won because they were definitely panic and acting dubious and I couldn’t speak English very well by that time.

They wait and see how many people buy a certain ticket and the can kinda tell when a winning ticket is coming. Like one time I was thinking about what ticket I wanted and the owner told me 5 people bought this ticket and I haven’t had a winner so I think this one is due for a win. Low and behold I win 50 bucks
