Next best thing to riding my R100GS...An old guy once told me a story 30 years ago about 2 bulls on a hill...One bull was old and one was young...The young bull looked down on a field of cows grazing and said to the old bull...'Whatdaya say we run down this hill and shag one of those cows down there?...and the old bull said...' I've got a better idea...How about we walk down the hill and shag all of those cows down there'...I'm 54 this year...Never forgot that story... The R100GS engine is good for 100mph all day every day...The UK police proved that in the 70s and 80s...But when you have experience and the engine knowledge you want them to get you home...You take your time and enjoy the journey......I've had the same R100GS for 25 years...Thanks for the ride fellas...

Thanks for the comment. I was away riding when you put this up and although I saw it and intended to reply, I promptly forgot. Another senior moment I’m afraid. Better late than never; I agree with you about taking the time to enjoy the journey.
I’ve had this bike since 1995 when I bought it with 14500 miles on the clock, it now has over 400 000. Best bike I have owned in 50 years of continuous motorcycling.

I like the discreet pipe with your morning coffee; I envy you guys the ride. I have yet to visit Spain.

It’s a great country for biking and if you go in the low season there’s plenty of cheap accommodation to be found, or if you like camping, there are stacks of opportunities to camp wild.

@@motophoenix5951 I'm heading into Central Southern France in June, kind of tempted to slip over the Pyrenees into Spain for a bit. Or leave it 'til I've retired and do it properly...

@@motophoenix5951 What's the deal with the wild camping? Can you just pitch up anywhere? Alex

Alex Johns I’m not sure about the legal situation, but if you use some common sense you will not have any problems. Some areas present better opportunities than others and there are better chances to find camp off the more minor roads. I have been crossing Spain and camping wild for nigh on 40 years and on the few occasions when I was “discovered” folk were very friendly. In more recent years, since Spain has been in the EU, there has been a lot of road improvements and you can often find sections of old disused road, where there has been a realignment and these can be great places, often hidden or secluded, to camp if you want to stop just for a night. Otherwise you can find plenty of scrub, or places by reservoirs to camp. THE BIG NO NO, IS DON’T LIGHT FIRES. This will get you in deep shit. Hope that helps.

Thanks for letting me know. In my opinion, however all my motorcycles are for riding, so long as they are roadworthy and in good mechanical condition that is all I care about. In fact I like to see some patina on a motorcycle, I think it looks more interesting that way. I am not interested in spit and polish.
