    Hi Moreno. Thank you for the demo. This was very clear even without you talking. I was deliberating back and forth between the jang or the earthway seeder because the earthway is cheaper. But seeing the jang in action now.... it really goes over the ground very smoothly. Jang it is

      @TheDutchFarmer  3 роки тому +2

      Hey Sabrina! I definitely recommend the Jang seeder if your budget allows it. I've never used the Earthway so can't say much about it, but from what I understand it has allowed many farmers get started on a lower budget and they were able to upgrade over time with the profits made.

    Hi, great Video, as always!
    I have a question though: don't you have problems with field mice and moles? I have dozens of them ruining everything I plant or sow. I lay cardboard with mulch on top and a few days later the small "bumps" are everywhere...
    Any tip on how to prevent this spreading would be great!

    • @h.rutten2187
      @h.rutten2187 Рік тому

      I believe farmers here in the Netherlands set traps pressed into their mole hills, my grandfather who would have been in his late nineties if he was still alive would catch moles and it must have been in the fourtie’ and fifties that he would sell them for their skin, moles that is not field mice (could be they’re a protected species in the Netherlands, I’m not sure, could even depend on the area/ region you’re at with your farm.
      But with lots of mice, I don’t know if this individual trapping of holes works?
      But if they go for peanut butter baited bucket traps that you could also dig into the ground up to the buckets rim to easy lure them in. then you could kill many with one big trap by drowning them all at once or catch them alive, but why you would do that I can’t think of a reason why?
      There are different bucket trap designs that you can find here on YT and also chickens love to eat them, gets you great eggs with those dark yellow yokes.
      It’s all about trying to make a positive out of a negative in an efficient productive way.
      Maybe you could even cut up the mole and feed that to the chickens, but that’s a bit much maybe, otherwise just compost them or if you can get in life traps just set them out kilometers away from farmland and they’ll stay in that area.

    • @claudiacsamorim
      @claudiacsamorim Рік тому

      @@h.rutten2187 Thanks for your inputs!
      In fact what makes the most damage are not the mice or moles, but voles. They are capable of killing a young tree by eating the roots.
      Moles are protected here in Germany, so we must be really careful on how to set the traps.
      What we started using, with very good success, are the SuperCat mouse traps. These are specially designed for voles and we are capable of catching more than one vole per day on certain areas of our garden.
      I'm convinced that this is a never ending battle because the voles reproduce on a high rate, but at least we are managing to reduce their number around the most important areas of our garden.

    Beautiful garden with the trees. I do wonder about the woodchips though. They are great for the garden but the energy input to make them is enormous and often (depending on the situation) involves huge tractors and monstrous shredders that compact the soil in other places a lot (I do some forestry work - the machines used to make woodchips here absolutely massive). That does seem a bit deceiving. Just because there are no big machines in the garden it does not mean they are not involved .... don't know .. maybe still the best option to build soil rapidly. I just try to consider the overall picture ....

      Hey Raeveth, thank you for the kind words! We imported all the tools from the US. Jang and 6-row both from Johnny's. You can easily double the price with import taxes and shipping costs if you decide to do the same. BUT, I recommend you only get the Jang. Everything you can do with the 6-row, you can pretty much do with the Jang. I can get the exact same results, yet you don't have to be as meticulous with the bed prep.
