    There are a ton of flashlights on the market for EDC (Every Day Carry) these days. That is a good thing for the consumer. But it can also be overwhelming trying to find the right light to carry.
    The combined features in the Streamlight ProTac 1L 1AA flashlight make it a contender in my mind. I like how you can program the light for max output only, the easy to use tail cap, multi functional clip and the ability to use either AA batteries or CR123 batteries, resulting in 150 lumens or 350 lumens max output respectively. A lot of value at the price point.

    Awesome review! This will be my next light. I have carried the Streamlight Protac 2L for 6 years. This light is roughly half the size with the same lumens/candela and eats up half the batteries. Huge win!

      Awesome Richard, glad to help! I think you will be pleased with this light.

    I’ve been using one of these for LV tech work for 2yrs now, and it’s the best light I’ve used. I beat the hell out of it and it keeps going. I use the clip on my hat a lot because I need both hands most of the time, and I put a little lead free electrical tape on the cap so I don’t have to bite down on metal. Great little light for work and defense.

    • @KitBadger

      Right on. Nice tip on the electrical tape too. I can see that being handy.

    I can back up this review. I've got three of these flashlights and always keep one in my pants pocket. Each one has been through the wash cycle a number of times and still works great.

      I feel a good flashlight manufacturer must just use washing machines as a benchmark test. :)

      @@KitBadger I got the light and I do really like it but I am not happy with the tail switch. I think it is really mushy. I bit the bullet and ordered the Surefire EDCLT-1 and will see how that works. I still think the ProTac 1L-1AA is a great light for the money, just not happy with the tail switch.

    I picked one up At Vance's for 50 about a year ago. Picking up another for my brother and also the 2lx for work since you can use rechargeable batteries on it.

    I have to say one thing, their are three factors for a good torch/flashlight:
    * Output (Lumens)
    * Range & Spread
    * Battery Life

    • @KitBadger
      @KitBadger  6 років тому +3

      I agree! Question, when you say range, do you mean candela?

    • @Nicksperiments
      @Nicksperiments 6 років тому +3

      Kit Badger I think he means the combination of range and beam pattern which is where candela comes from. For me, I’d rather have a lot of candela than a lot of lumens because I want the beam to light things up as far away as possible

    This is what I want... a flashlight where the momentary button press is set to the low lumen setting and the full "click" goes to max brightness.

    • @KitBadger
      @KitBadger  6 років тому +1

      Sorry buddy, this is NOT that light. My bad if I didn't explain it better. What you do want though is a light I am getting some time with right now. I should have a review on it out in a few weeks.

      Thanks buddy, have a good hike.

    • @Nicksperiments
      @Nicksperiments 6 років тому

      It’s pretty close though. You double tap and hold to go to high. The only way to have a light press and a full click to do something different from an engineering standpoint is to have 2 separate buttons, or a button that is basically 2 buttons stacked on top of each other: one to turn the light on, and another to detect if it’s being clicked all the way down or not. But either way I’m pretty sure they don’t make any buttons like this. The double tap on the streamlights is the closest thing you’ll find though.

    • @Nicksperiments
      @Nicksperiments 6 років тому

      Actually I take back what I just said. It seems the Surefire EDCL2-T does this but I think it’s momentary only. Like you light press for low power and press harder for high power but the button doesn’t click and stay on. You have to twist the tail cap to stay on

    Olight S2R Baton is my go to, it uses rechargeable 18650 batteries that dont need to be removed for charging (but can be) and throws an extremely wide 1000 lumen beam. It will light up a 50 yard wide by 100 yard long field in its entirety

    • @KitBadger
      @KitBadger  6 років тому +1

      I love the 18650 batteries for their power. They last a long time and can power some great lights. Most of them are bigger than I want to have in my pocket all the time though. But that is rub right? Always a trade off. :)

    • @PracticalTacticalSheepDog
      @PracticalTacticalSheepDog 6 років тому +1

      Kit Badger you should check the S2R Baton out... as far as i know its the most compact 18650 light on the market. I have carried mine for about 2 years now. Not the best tactical light but it makes an excellent edc and adventure light. I took mine fully charged up to whitetop Mountain and spent 3 days there camping with friends. Got constant use being passed around between us and one battery lasted the whole trip.

    • @KitBadger
      @KitBadger  6 років тому

      That does look pretty cool. How do you like the switch on it?

    • @kendrajones984
      @kendrajones984 6 років тому

      Better yet get a zebra light SC 62 it's smaller than both the olight and the stream light but has the benefit of using 18650s.

    • @PracticalTacticalSheepDog
      @PracticalTacticalSheepDog 6 років тому

      Kit Badger sorry for the late response im just now seeing this... the switch is pretty good. The s2 baton makes a better adventure light than tactical light. It has 5 levels of brightness you can cycle through with the side switch that i find super helpful when camping, the lower modes help stretch the battery life for when u dont need that 1000 lumens. The turbo mode is great for scanning fields and hill sides in bear country, I did a hike last year up to white top mountain and it was worth its weight in gold

    I love this light, except for 1 think. The way AA batteries fit in it. The 123 fits good, but when you load the AA, it just feels like the spring is under a lot of tension or pressure. Couple that with the spring in the tailcap. I'm curious if after a few years of this winds up making the springs weak. I tried to order mine from Amazon, but got a counterfeit. After a huge ass battle proving to them it was fake, I finally got a return. Thankfully I found a dealer about 10 miles from my house who deals in them. I picked it up there for like 5 dollars more than I would have paid on Amazon, but at least I knew I was getting a legit one. While there I also bought a microstream AAA and a pro tac 1 AAA as well lol

    • @KitBadger
      @KitBadger  5 років тому

      I'm with you, I think once you go down the road of AA, it pretty much stays a AA light.

    I like the versatility of the batteries and the clip. I’ve always been skeptical of flashlight brands other than ones I’ve grown to trust like Petzl, Black Diamond, and Maglite. My EDC is a Maglite XL50, while keeping Petzl headlamps stashed all over. I’ve just had so many shoddy off-brand lights (not to mention folding knives, multitools, and watches - looking at you, Uzi). It makes me shy away from equipment that seems too “tacti-cool.” So all that said, how do you think this might stack up against the Maglite I carry, at a quick glance? Do you have any experience with them?

    • @KitBadger
      @KitBadger  6 років тому

      Hey Drew, headlamps are always handy to have around. I keep them in bags, around the house and in vehicles.
      As to the Maglite XL50, I haven't used it. Looking at it, I'm leaning more towards the Streamlight. They are a solid brand. Speaking to that, I actually had a issue with that light I reviewed. I will be posting a video on the problem and solution soon.
      It really depends on application I guess. Features wise, I like ProTac 1L-1AA.

      Kit Badger I’ve had some that do but last light had an awesome clip but still managed to fall out of my shorts trying to think and learn on ways to keep it from falling out it’s got me stumped besides an actual case and that’s my very very last option

    • @KitBadger
      @KitBadger  6 років тому +1

      If it is that big of a issue, I would put a 550 cord lanyard onto your light and then loop one end on a belt loop. Or get some new shorts. :)
