Belly-scratching bear among a surge in recent Southern California sightings

- Wildlife officials in Southern California are fielding calls and gathering data on what appears to be a surge in black bear encounters this year and in recent years.
Bears have been spotted in residential areas of Sierra Madre, Monrovia, and Castaic within the past week. On Monday, officers attempted to tranquilize and relocate a bear that wandered through a neighborhood near Castaic Lake.

Leave the bears alone. They are the California state symbol. Sadly, our rivers, lakes and valleys have been so polluted. There are no fish, fruits or berries left for the Bears to eat. Less human pollution, more environmentally, friendly Wildlife!

@@stuwest3653 It's the California Grizzly Bear, also known as the California golden bear, and it's extinct. We're the only state flag to feature an extinct species.

@@shamaniworld528it's not a brown bear, it's a black bear. Black bears come in different colors. A brown colored black bear is called a cinnamon bear. A brown bear, also called a grizzly, doesn't exist in California. Grizzlies can be identified by the hump on their backs over their front legs.

In 2008 he trained a bear and it killed him that was not a wild animal he trained it it was domesticated and he pissed it off and it killed him you're just trying to make the Bears look bad
I love bears. I live in a rural community and had one in my backyard. He was just relaxing and ate some fruit from my fruit trees. I named him Bo Bo . We have had a nice relationship for a few years 🎉
People Move into bear homes and then be like omg a bear!!! That’s like swimming in the ocean and then complaining about sharks.
They are humongous. My brother and I encountered two bears…mama bear and cub on Mt Wilson trail.
I saw a bear in Pennsylvania!! Huge ! They would dig in the trashcans. We could smell them in the air at night after they left. HORRIBLE STENCH!

I don't think bears hibernate in Southern California. If they do, it's just the bears at the highest elevations in places like Big Bear. The bears in the foothills just slow down a little in the winter.
Bears are fast can swim faster than us run faster and climb trees if u ask me they are terrifying creatures like shredding machines

People have to realize animals don’t hear an EV approaching. Whenever I drive through a quiet neighborhood with mine, I slow way down. Cats just sit there till I honk at them. I urge people to be extra careful with there EVs, especially in parking lots. Also when coming up on cyclists on the road way. I was almost hit by a guy speeding by me while on my bicycle. I never heard him, till I saw him pass me. He passed close to me in his older Hyundai EV.
The one in my neighborhood always wants a ride to the donut shop.
Took him once and now it’s a daily occurrence. He likes bear claws quite a bit.

there are also bobcats and mountain lions . i lived in sierra madre 10 yrs ago and almost daily there would be a big bear in the trash or climbing down a tree …

I live in Burbank and there's an area where there's literally half a dozen gun shops in a 1 1/2-2 mile radius. You literally don't know what you're talking about. Pull up google maps, and then do a search for gun shops.

Well this looks grizzly...I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but they use their bear hands to scratch. If you pay attention you can see they prefer to go bear foot and run around bear naked. The California Grizzly, a regional subspecies of the brown bear (Ursus arctos), is the state symbol and extinct. But American black bears (Ursus americanus) are still very much around. To make it more confusing, black bears can be black, brown, cinnamon red and even white. A lot of the ones in California are brown. Brown black bears.

There was a lady on the Many Faces of Death video series who got mollyqopped by a bear who was sitting in the chair next to her while she held the microphone and was speaking. Yes they come out in the daytime. They enjoy hanging out in the swimming pools when it’s hot too. You haven’t seen that?
