  • In this weeks video, we dive into the headache of maintaining a 58 year old import car in America. We struggle to find parts, but make the best of an old beat up Toyota to get it back on the road! After it’s back together, halfway, we take it for a drive in the mountains!

    As a teenager, my first car was a 1967 Toyota Corona that looked just like yours only mine was white. I purchased an oil filter adaptor from J. C. Wittney that replaces the canister oil filter with a regular screw-on oil filter. Mine had a high-speed miss that I corrected when I replaced the points with a solid-state ignition. I loved the car and kept it for many years but it was horrible on snow or ice as the rear end was so light. That hole in the trunk is from the missing gas tank. I still have my repair manual for it.

    Worked on those Coronas back in the 70s. Good Rule for All Drum Brakes: Never adjust before removing drum and inspecting wheel cylinders, springs/hold down pins, shoe thickness, etc.

    Super ❤️ this car AND this video! Growing up in Australia these Toyotas were everywhere, 20-25 years after they were made most of them were still on the road. Then one day there wern’t so many. Legend has it the Japanese came here and took a lot of them back to Japan, because their original Coronas were long gone.

    Friend of mine restored a 68 2 door a few years ago. Had some guy turn in front of him on a residential street and he hit him at 15mph. Totaled the car. The hood nearly went through the windshield. At a higher speed its scary to think what would happen! Luckily he was ok and his passenger just banged his knee on the dash.

      @@redlineranch. I don't think those Coronas ever had 1900 motors. They certainly didn't in Australia but might have over there. There were a lot of them sold here.

      @@craigjames9155 yeah, here in the states, they came with the 1.9 3R, the back has a 1900 badge even! It must’ve been a usdm market thing.

      It sounds like the carburetor might need cleaned, or possibly the ignition components, like the distributor are having issues.

    Is it possible to buy a replacement tank that will actually fit? Or is that too much to hope for?

    • @redlineranch.
      @redlineranch.  Рік тому

      I’ve been keeping my eye out, but I fear that I won’t be able to find one. I might end up making a fuel tank that drops into the original location, but for now I was just glad to be able to drive it!
