    The most impressive thing is that these GIGANTIC wild animals that have had limited exposure to humans held still and didn't fight or try to flee. They recognized that they were trying to help. ❤

      The members of the Italian Coast Guard are really underappreciated even here in Italy: they help people in danger, protect the enviroment from polluters and illegal fishing, fight smugglers and drug traders...but since they also help adrift refugees and migrants a lot of people insult and criticizes them.

      Usually whale rescuers are men. Most women do not have the physical strength required for the work and are not hard wired to take the risks necessary for the work. It really is men's work. That's just how it is. I hope I marry a man who does this sort of work personally. Sincerely, a realistic and rational woman.

      Yeah, very dangerous rescue. Sperm whales can stun and even kill you with their sonar. Just them wanting to get a good look at you could be fatal... the sound is so powerful, it can vibrate you to death. A researcher once tried to push off with one hand against one that got too close, and it stunned his arm so badly that he couldn't move it for 5 hours.

    • @milanka882
      @milanka882 7 років тому +55

      Sperm whales do not eat great whites or people. They eat giant squid, octopus and such. They also know when someone has good or ill intentions toward them. Hence the stories of them attacking whalers yet being completely placid and cooperative when being rescued like this. Sperm whales are my other mates as well as humpbacks. And I really admire the men who do this work. These are real men... kind and masculine at the same time.

    • @janedoex8345
      @janedoex8345 6 років тому +35

      scanjet1000 Of course not. Im fact there are no record of sperm whales willingly attacking humans, but the risk is not to get hit by their tail flip while they are struggling and trying to free themselves in panic. Luckily they seem to notice they are helped and stop moving too much But it's still risky, one accidential whip from a whales tail could crush a diver instantly. But on many occasions, whales were even cautious and stopped or turned to not run into divers in many encounters. It's amazing these huge animals even "care" enough and willingly tried to avoid to risk harming us tiny strangly swimming beings. They are much bigger so they simply could expect us to move for sure ! There were also cases when whales took humans or other small animals under their pectotal fin to hide and protect them when big sharks were around. Some say it's because they thought the humans being some sort of calfs, but i think they are too intelligent to mistake us for their offspring. We don't look like a calf, we smell and behave different and we don't make any similar noises. But they somehow decided we are worth to be protected anyways....Isn't it amazing?

    Notice how a few times you could see one freed whale holding up the tail of another one? They're such smart creatures, it's heartbreaking our greed endangers their lives

    Bravo! Brava! That looked so incredibly difficult, even without the uncertainty of how the whales might react to people being so close to them. I hope that the Coast Guard and other officials are active policing people who fish illegally. Thank you for doing this - and for making my day ever so much brighter.

    Admirable. It took courage to rescue these animals. In the midst of their distress a diver easily might have been killed or injured quite by accident. Bravo!

    That was an incredibly brave thing to do. Imagine how easy it would have been for one of the divers to get entangled a bit and one of the whales (particularly near the end) to dive quickly.

    So so thankful that these men were around to save these precious whales!! My goodness they would have parished had they not come along when they did. This makes my heart break each and every time I see what our marine life has to endure because of the lazy fisherman out there not pulling in their fishing nets, this angers me to no end.
    Playing that music in the background makes it look as though this is some kind of happy dance that's going on 😤. Thank you coast guards for being true HERO'S!!! ❣️❣️❣️
