A homage to the lead singer of the Pouges - Shane MacGowan who died yesterday aged 65 years.
there are a few songs which will be listed below by youtube. But there is also a new song uploaded by my friend Ethan Moran .

I think one of the attributes, from a non irish person, is that he made irish music, albeit mixing it with the punk attitude, very popular, and it is no small deal scoring a christmas song maintaining his same spirit...rest easy sir, tq for the beautiful music and lyrics

instant like without even watching, I felt like shedding a tear at the campfire the other night when I heard the news. Ireland has lost two great musical people this year and their likes will never be seen nor heard again. Nothing will ever compare to either of them in this durty ol town.
It's been a sad week , but sadness should be overcome with tribute , I hope you light a candle or gather wood today singing that song by him and Sinead . .I've been humming it in my head for two days .
We grew up with Shane👌 he gave us dreams👍,, saw him sing a few times in the old purty kitchen, with the Dubliners😘 Legends.🎵🤷

He lived a life his way for sure. I remember him and the band from the 80's and of course have always enjoyed, 'Fairy Tale of New York,' which takes me back. Re-the city my brothers explored your town and took his folding buke, cycled out and camped in the mountains. Well, take care RIP Shane. Mark

Nice video honoring Shane MacGowan. Here in Philadelphia area, one of our football players, Jason Kelce, from the Eagles sung a localized version of the Fairytale of New York to benefit a local children's charity.

My mum was from Drogheda. She always loved Shane from the Pogues. My mum appreciated poetry and literature. Especially Irish. I have been to Dublin many times with my dear mum. Sadly she passed away almost two years ago. I miss her every day. One very clever and very funny beautiful lady. I love so much music like my mum did. Especially Irish music. When I stayed with my auntie and uncle in Drogheda, it was always entertaining. My cousins husband's were very musical. They would start singing after a few pints and one would play a guitar one a mouth organ They knew how to get the evening going lol. I loved going there. Also because the people were just magnificent. Very kind and so friendly. I remember the first time going with my mum I was shocked that a shop keeper was talking to me and asking where I was from. Who was I staying with. Everyone knew each other. I kind of felt guilty for thinking he was being nosy! Then realised actually be was a sweetie and was just being like I said friendly. I began to realise what my mum meant by saying she thought the English were like the weather. Miserable a lot of the time. Very reserved. 😍

Met him in jfk at the bar, bought him a mixed drink. Not sure what it was but i do remember it was $27 back in 1988. Told him i was a singer songwriter,he was chatty as all hell, just a regular tipp man. .. rip auld sod...you turned heads in your life here.

He gave us all that moment on a Christmas Eve with friends and family where we let go of everything , gazed around us and threw out arms around those closest to us , screaming his music like a normal person . His gift was singing like a normal human being .
@@lifesahobby My last trip to Dublin was with friends for auditions for the Vikings tv series down in county Wicklow,the night was spent in a foot stompin bar in the temple bar area.the band played a few of shanes songs,a real memorable night.im so sad in his passing but as you said hed want us to celebrate his life and raise a glass for sure..

He was the mad Max of Irish folk songs . But eventually it turned out he key part to Irish music revival ..
I miss the Dublin city of the 90s and the naughties . But it still has its charm . I'm hoping to get in there some day soon and do some photographs ..

@lifesahobby It seems like parties and writing good songs go hand in hand. 65, that is a pretty good run for that scene. As I age, I can say that is young, though. I imagine his music will live on and inspire younger generations, as many in the past have done. 😀

I cut off the video cause I got a phone call at 10 30 am leaving . I had an emergency call out for city centre , it's just easier to leave before 7 am . I'm guessing it's the same story in every city .

Shane's hometown was London not Dublin he was born and spent 90% of his life in London

This wasn't really supposed to be about anything btw . I was just driving into the city and when someone dies that I respect , I like to pay homage .
I did another video when Sinead o Connor died , I was camping in that video and just danced to one of her songs .
By all accounts , Sinead was much of a camper .. ❤ but you know what I mean , respect to England , the English , the people of Kent , London , and all those who remember the man fondly
His parents are Irish. He was born in Tipperary, then the family went to live in London when Shane was seven.

It’s hard for children with Irish parents. They travelled to England for a better life for their family. The children are confused growing up. Are they English 🌹or Irish ☘️ . As they grew up in an Irish Community in London. My Ex partner grew up in Finsbury Park, North London. Living directly opposite their Catholic Church. The door was left open all day for their Priest, Nuns & friends to visit. This is when I had the pleasure to meet one of the Birmingham Six, he told me, was only went out to meet his daughter after her shift at Tesco’s, when he was arrested🙏My Ex Partner family from Connemara and couldn’t speak English when they arrived 🫶💕🍀🐨🐨🦘

It's about Salford where the writer was born, there was even a line in the original song that goes 'Smells a spring on the Salford wind' also references Manchester ship canal and the local gasworks.
