To me it's about any wet cold town . I've had a few messages about it being different towns all the way to Scotland . So it seems universal . Thanks for the insight
It's about Salford where the writer was born, there was even a line in the original song that goes 'Smells a spring on the Salford wind' also references Manchester ship canal and the local gasworks.

It’s hard for children with Irish parents. They travelled to England for a better life for their family. The children are confused growing up. Are they English 🌹or Irish ☘️ . As they grew up in an Irish Community in London. My Ex partner grew up in Finsbury Park, North London. Living directly opposite their Catholic Church. The door was left open all day for their Priest, Nuns & friends to visit. You forgot to cross the river.
Maybe that's a job for someone else 😀.. thanks for your comment
Not an Irish song. It's about Sheffield!😢 R.I.P. 0:51
@@martinclail9290 thank you for your input .
From reading other comments it seems like the song had a universal application to any old town. . and until this week I had no idea of the real history to the song . .
👍
Shane's hometown was London not Dublin he was born and spent 90% of his life in London
He drank like an Irish person ..
This wasn't really supposed to be about anything btw . I was just driving into the city and when someone dies that I respect , I like to pay homage .
I did another video when Sinead o Connor died , I was camping in that video and just danced to one of her songs .
By all accounts , Sinead was much of a camper .. ❤ but you know what I mean , respect to England , the English , the people of Kent , London , and all those who remember the man fondly
His parents are Irish. He was born in Tipperary, then the family went to live in London when Shane was seven.

This is when I had the pleasure to meet one of the Birmingham Six, he told me, was only went out to meet his daughter after her shift at Tesco’s, when he was arrested🙏My Ex Partner family from Connemara and couldn’t speak English when they arrived 🫶💕🍀🐨🐨🦘
thank you so much for the mention owen! i am truly honored to be even the slightest bit of inspiration as i consider what you do to be art.
now to chat along with the video. 😂 love a night trip, so you got me immediately there. throw in some interesting clouds, and water reflecting off 😍 love the soundtrack. big pogues fan here. since college i've considered "metropolis" to be my theme song. and while shane isn't singing in that one, i still mention it. damnit, ya got me crying on fairy tale of ny, arguably my favorite song of theirs, although haunted by the ghost with sinead probably ties it. to throw a non-duet in - if i should fall from grace from gd. AND THEN YOU GO AND DO IT WITH HAUNTED. now i'm just a complete wreck. and will send this comment and finish the drive through bleary eyes.
thank you for the this tribute to a talent i will miss. and thanks again for the mention. 🛴❤
Don't be thanking me , you inspired this.
You have done 140 of these right ? I thought of you leaving the house at 6; 45 am
All their work .. the music brings us all to memories .
.. that's the emotional trip . ❤️❤️ Brilliant that it resonated with your songs you love .
yes, i'm replying to myself because i just wanted to say thanks for sharing your city. i really enjoy the differences between our pieces of the world and i wasn't expecting the daytime drive at all! watch out for the bikers! as clearly i thought it was night until you mention the 645am 😁
@scootladychicago the font at the start looks like 1am but it was 7am this morning.
I think it's deadly that the night turns into day .
I cut off the video cause I got a phone call at 10 30 am leaving . I had an emergency call out for city centre , it's just easier to leave before 7 am . I'm guessing it's the same story in every city .
Thank god it's Friday ..
