    I don't think throwing the air wide is meant to be the idea with air circulators. The material I've seen from Vornado indicates that they actually aim to create a more *narrow*, strong column of air than what you'd get with a traditional fan. That targeted stream will then reach the wall or ceiling it is pointed to. The air then bounces from that object and travels down the wall and back towards the room, which is what circulates it around the room.

    You can toss most of these and take a good look at the XPOWER Air Circulator Series.

    The digital controls don't work with smart devices. The "dinky" controls on the Vornado vintage model allow you to use a WEMO or other such type of smart plug with Alexa for voice activation.

      100 different "levels"? What do you mean? I know it can't mean settings, never more than 3 or 4 of those. What are these "levels" you speak of & how on Earth does a fan have 100 of them???

      @@cowafungus8104 It may be two years later, but I'm going to clear this up for you (and anyone else reading). AC motors are what we are used to on fans. They have, generally, three (3) distinct settings: High, Medium & Low. With a DC motor the speed is pretty much continuously variable. Vornado sez 99(!) different settings, and that may actually be true, technically, but from a practical stand point if you turn it to some point on the dial, and it's a little too much, or too little, you just adjust the speed dial a small amount and the fan will increase or decrease by a small amount. Not enough? Do it again. Much better, in my experience. And, uses less energy as well for the same airflow output.

    Vornado's highest quality & strongest flow "vortex-fans" are still manufactured in Kansas. I've had the small type 610 (3-step A/C powered) vortex-fan for more than a decade. If you place it on the floor & point it upwards toward the ceiling, from the corner of any medium sized room, It flows/floods & mixes air so thoroughly around the given space that you may never need to use it more than at the lowest speed setting (nice, quiet, & efficient). They are not cheaply priced fans... but if you buy a USA made Vornado, you will be smiling and amazed every time you turn it on for at least the next decade. Additionally for winter, Vornado makes excellent vortex-fan, room-sized "safe" heaters that work like a charm on cold feet. I bought the China made Vornado, type MVH, not realizing at the time of purchase, that a similar USA made version was also available. Oh well, 'should have bought USA made Vornado heater for a similar price. These two items have been the sum total of my experience with the brand...j

    It's too bad Dyson has decided they are really an "air purifier" company and all their fans are getting high $ consumable using HEPA filters built in. I'd pay the extra $ for a smart WiFi fan but they only have purifier versions and they are like $600. Crazy. The main reason for a Dyson is pet friendly - way easier to clean. But again crazy $$$.
    Oh, and please use a proper calibrated sound meter from a fixed distance and measure power consumption.

    • @Lisa-ym1si
      @Lisa-ym1si 4 роки тому +1

      Agree. I bought one a couple days ago - it does not move the air at all on the low speeds. I’m going to try the vornado next

    • @simonwaddington1866
      @simonwaddington1866 3 роки тому +1

      @@Lisa-ym1si FWIW I ended up buying a Vornado Pivot3 Clip fan. It is small but I was able to clip it on a book shelf close to my bed and on the lowest setting from 3 feet it is almost silent. I'd prefer a larger more distributed flow of air but I'll probably end up with two of them, one for each side of the bed. I do wish I could change the speed by WiFi and have infinite speed variability instead of just 3 settings. But at least by plugging it into a TP-Link KP303 3 outlet power strip I can turn it, lights, and another fan on and off wirelessly. That handles 95% of use cases - when it is really hot I may bump it up to the next speed setting temporarily. Oh and at $55 it's a fraction of the Dyson cost so I can afford two of them and a power strip and still have hundreds of dollars to spare.
      You could also try one of the Vornado Energy Smart fans which have a DC motor, have fine speed control, and some come with a remote eg. 5303DC Energy Smart. Nothing like as pretty, not pet hair friendly, but not $$$.

    I need a fan that can cool equipment on the floor. So it either needs to aim downwards, or sit low on the floor and aim forwards.
    Also, I need very little air flow. Silence (or near silence) is a key factor for what I am seeking.
    The fan will not be cooling the room; only sending a light breeze over some equipment located directly in front of the fan.
    Can you recommend a fan that can push small volumes of air, and do so silently?
    I will be sitting 8 feet away, and do not want to hear the fan, which will be on the lowest setting.
