Serg, not sure the last time you shopped in the US, but many of the imported items you mention are about the same cost here in Southern California. Food prices in the uS have gone up substantially!
It’s been almost exactly a year since I moved here Mark. I’ll be back in the US for a visit sometime in May. I’m sure I will be shocked at the increase.
Sorry Serg my last message I thought it was a bit mean when I corrected your Spanish my excuse is that I had a few beers 🍻 Good to see you back 🙂 My Favorite snack is Peanut butter M%Ms any Pie, ice cream and cakes. Great Video 😀
Some products, especially food ingredients Makro is cheaper. Because it's a retail price. Imported products are more expensive than products made in Thailand and China. Both Marko and Lous are owned by the same company, CP group.
eggs in the US are washed during processing to prevent Salmonella growth on the eggshell, however washing removes the cuticle which is a natural layer that prevents the egg from going bad at room temps.
Ive, dozens and dozens and dozens of eggs both here and in South American countries that don’t get refrigerated with no issues. I was shocked at first, but now it’s just a normal every day thing.
Next time try visiting some local fresh markets. A lot cheaper for some items 🙂 For example, I can buy No.0 eggs (No.0 is the biggest size) for 3-4 baht each.
We dont keep eggs in the fridge here in the UK, or the countries in Europe i have been to. They are an ambient temprature product. An interesting video, despite an average increase of 17.5% in the last year, i still dont think that UK prices are not that expensive after seeing what you were showing from Thailand.
Yes, on the eggs. I’ve learned that if they don’t get washed, they could be kept outside of refrigeration. Please keep advised that this is not a typical Thai supermarket. There are much cheaper places to buy things.
FYI, Tesco exited the Thai and Malaysian markets in 2021 and sold its business in both countries to CP Group. That is why Tesco (Lotus) in Thailand and Malaysia have all been rebranded as Lotus's since 2021, and run by CP All in both countries.
Loved this video. I tried to keep up with you in converting prices to Aussie dollars and also working back from US dollars. It seems that some items there are on a par with Aussie prices. I worry, then, for the average Thai person because although the prices look okay with me they must be very high for a local consumer. Nice to see Aussie products on the shelves, like Bega cheeses, Aussie wines and such. Australia has a free trade agreement with Thailand so we see Thai products here quite a bit (like cleaning products). I'd love to see you do a walking tour of the night markets and especially the fake markets.
This is definitely not a store, where a lot of average Thai people shop. Or at least they’re only coming here for certain items, as it is quite expensive by Thai standards. I’ve done a couple of night market videos in the past. The sellers of the fake markets typically are very adamant that you don’t record them, and it’s just not quite the content I’m interested in making.
New subscriber. I enjoyed the video. It was intersting to see how much higher things are in Bangkok versus where my farm is in Maha Sarakham. And as you mentioned many times in the comments, there are cheaper markets for most local foods than Lotus's and Big C. I go there only when I need something that isn't usually available in the markets closer to the farm. Granted, imported anything is going to be more expensive due to import/export taxes and fees. And since their market for many of these items is small, the cost per item is more as well. if you want to live in another country, but eat like you did where you came from, expect to pay a premium. The same applies in America for many imported items.I paid far more for Thai Jasmine rice in Colorado than what Lotus's charges! LOL I know you know this, but for those that maybe haven't been to Thailand - If you want to eat cheaper, go Thai! Many local Thai products are just as good, or even better, than what you might have had 'back home'. Some are owned by the same corporations you may have used before, just relabeled, and priced, for the Thai market. Thailand abounds with award winning culinary experiences. Explore the possibilities, and save a few baht in the process!
You are absolutely correct Richard. I only come to a market like this when I need something specific. Usually every three or four months because I like certain toilet paper, etc. Otherwise, I buy food and everything else in local Thai markets. I definitely did not move to Thailand to live like a western art. It defeats the purpose. Thank you so much for making all those great points!
@@LifewithSerg Yeah and I prefer to buy at the Thai traditional market. Specially by the market at the village. There are not many Farang and I enjoy it there.
Unsurprisingly imported items especially luxury or higher end items are more expensive in Thailand than in EU, US. Wines, chocolates, cookies/biscuits etc can easily cost double compared to the West.
Wow, i am very shocked about the prices - i have the feeling here in Germany we pay less for most of the stuff that you got - especially given the salary differences from Germany's average to Thailand. I wonder what Thai people buy... Would be interesting to see what an average thai would buy/ where they would buy their daily necessities - must be in the outside markets...Interestingly enough in Germany outside markets ( open air) are more pricy than supermarkets xD
This is not where most tow people shop. The prices here are definitely higher. I’ll have to make a video to show you the prices at places where most Thai propel shop. Total cost of living here is 1/3 of what you would pay in Germany.
Yea man, a lot of things are more expensive here, especially razors. Neat tour. I live literally next to a Tesco Lotus but ironically I almost never go unless it's to take mom-in-law to MK. Even living here, I found this video useful and informative. Another great video man.
There are definitely many cheaper alternatives for grocery shopping. This is just a place I go every two or three months to stock up on certain things. Thanks for watching Rob !
@@LifewithSerg You probably go to Makro too and I end up going there a fair amount too. They usually have a bakery inside that is pretty good. Thai Costco :)
I am a Thai national living in Bangkok. I found everything is 20 percent more expensive in a year. A price of a noodle soup last year was 40 , but this year is 50 on a street sidewalk. If I go to a local shop, it is up to 90 with the same quantity and quality.
FYI, Tesco exited the Thai and Malaysian markets in 2021 and sold its business in both countries to CP Group. That is why Tesco Lotus in Thailand and Malaysia have all been rebranded as Lotus's since 2021, and run by CP All in both countries.
I've found you can buy a pack of 20 plastic throw-away razors for a small fraction of the price of 3 or 4 blade cartridges. The quality is lower, but the value is much better.
Hi. “Thai whiskeys” are NOT whiskeys. This is because they are not distilled from grains but rather are made from cane sugar or molasses. Thus, they should be considered RUM rather than whiskey. Bars and nightclubs in Thailand would have it right as they usually serve Thai liquor with Coke. (Think Rum & Coke)
You are very much correct. I’ve tried several of them, and they definitely have more room flavor. I’m just used to everyone’s you’re calling the whiskey.
Thats common in SE Asia, they add chemical flavouring and hope for the best. Rhum is made from the same liquor and also have chemical flavor added. Anyway theres no need to buy any of them, imported whisky isnt too expensive unless youre drinking heavily daily. .
Sangsom at least says it's Rum on the bottle. However, all the bars and restaurants list it as whiskey. I was on my 30th or so bottle before I finally realized this. It's terrible straight, but I love it with coke.
The only reason I did a review here, was, because I actually have to go shopping, and I thought people would find this information. Interesting. Reviewing stores is generally not my type a video.

There’s definitely cheaper options as far as supermarkets go. But I just find it. Lotis has pretty much everything under one roof. Glad you enjoyed this video Trevor.
I've noticed since I went to Thailand that the only places up north people seem to go is Chiang Mai. How about Phayao? Much cheaper on everything and not exactly small
if you like nuts, i found those sold in makro are much cheaper than the rest. for a 500g pack, an exact same brand and package can cost over 100 baht less. i normally only shop at the gourmet market, makro, and foodland. so, i enjoyed your lotus store tour. like lindt too and to my surprise, the price is pretty much the same as what they sell in europe.
Glad you found it useful! These are the kind of things I want to know before moving to a different place. Keep in mind that there are much cheaper places to shop here than Lotus.
Prices are less than in the USA. Great variety as well. No empty shelves. Interesting to see stores from around the world. Thanks for posting. Would like to know what the rice is like and the varieties available.
This is definitely not a typical market here. Lots of imported things with higher prices. I’ll have to make a video to show where most local people shop and the prices of those food items.
Dettol Body Wash is my choice as well. Fun fact they started as a “bleach” kind of thing in Hong Kong to clean floors or add along with detergent - I guess it’s also cleaning but more on the hardcore side 😅
Wow! I would expect imported items and other things like toilet paper and cheese to cost more in Thailand but I’m shocked to see that the produce is pretty much the same price if not more expensive than in my city in Ottawa Ontario. I would also expect rice to be cheaper in Thailand. I don’t know if inflation really hit in Thailand, but I found the prices in that store very high! PS I am a dental healthcare professional and we often recommend salt water rinses to help heal infection in the mouth or to control gingivitis. Salt is a natural antibacterial, but I personally would not like the taste of it in toothpaste!
This is not a typical store here. Most Thai will not shop here as it is too expensive. There are much much cheaper stores to go shopping at here in Thailand.
You should get use to domestic products. They will save tons of your cost of living here in Thailand. Some of them 're even better than famous import brands. Try some of them with patient and let your taste buds experiencing day by day. Including with choose domestic supply stuff too. Good luck, Serg
I only come to the large lotus once every two or three months for some beer essentials. Since I don’t cook, I generally don’t go to a lot of markets. However, I’m always buying the local version of some thing if I can.
Salt is a natural disinfectant and antibacterial. It's why docs recommend gargling with salt water for a variety of ailments, including tooth pain and bad breath. Probably a healthier option - WW
Excellent video - prices seem fair for average grocery items one needs. The selection is incredible. Great info.❤ Do you usually get a grab taxi back to your place ?
There are definitely cheaper supermarkets around me to get all these things. But I like the convenience of this large store, and I only come here once every two or three months for some very basic needs. I take the BTS there, but usually I buy a bunch of things so I take a Grab taxi back.
In addition to standard department stores There will still be sub-shops that bring products whose standards may decrease somewhat to sell at a price of 20 baht.
Yeah, they’re definitely pretty cool. The condo I moved into had one of those, but I let the owner remove it. They’re always some horrible green, or pink or orange or red color, and just absolutely ruined the aesthetic of the condo.
No, it’s not a hardship, I was just pointing out to where it is. Besides, I don’t cook, so I only go there once every couple of months if I need something very specific.
@@LifewithSergAlright. I gave it more thought- I suppose going isn’t so bad. However, the return trip could be problematic depending how far the walk is, the weather, the heaviness of the groceries, and whether any of the items need to be kept out of the heat for a prolonged period. * Thanks for replying!

OMG, Mark!
Southern California has more selections than another states. Some states taxes even essentials that California does not tax on them.
Wow, the large area, so many things and quite expensive. I enjoy it!
It’s very large!
Sorry Serg my last message I thought it was a bit mean when I corrected your Spanish my excuse is that I had a few beers 🍻
Good to see you back 🙂
My Favorite snack is Peanut butter M%Ms any Pie, ice cream and cakes.
Great Video 😀
Don’t worry about it! My Spanish is far from perfect. Yeah I love m&m’s also!
Good
Thanks
Hi Serg , Highly recommend "Regency V.S.O.P. Brandy" Premium quality liquor made in Thailand. Very good!
I'll check it out!
@@LifewithSerg Groovy!
True, also in Philippines the only really good local liquor is brandy.
New video wow. 👍 I am watching
Thank you for your support!
Some products, especially food ingredients Makro is cheaper. Because it's a retail price. Imported products are more expensive than products made in Thailand and China. Both Marko and Lous are owned by the same company, CP group.
Thanks for sharing that.
Interesting to see how prices differ from here in the U.K.
Yep, that’s why I made it. Figured propel would be interested. Will make one at a much more local market next time.
eggs in the US are washed during processing to prevent Salmonella growth on the eggshell, however washing removes the cuticle which is a natural layer that prevents the egg from going bad at room temps.
Oh, yes, I know. I’ve been to quite a few of them.
15 pieces for a dollar in India.
From Ross in Brisbane. Australia .
Great info mate . I love your stuff .
Thanks Ross, I appreciate it! Should have a new video out tomorrow
I don’t know which part of the UK you’re from, but everyone I know in Great Britain and here in Spain where I live stores their eggs in the fridge.
Thank you for sharing this video. I am informed. I am visiting Bangkok next month October 2023.
Hope you enjoy it!
new subscriber watching from the Philippines
Thanks. I need to visit the Philippines soon.
FYI, Tesco exited the Thai and Malaysian markets in 2021 and sold its business in both countries to CP Group.
That is why Tesco (Lotus) in Thailand and Malaysia have all been rebranded as Lotus's since 2021, and run by CP All in both countries.
Yep CP owns many different brands here.
No tesco still in charge
@@markmitchell2658 Then explain the news that they left the Thai and Malaysian markets and sold it to CP. Did it just not happen?
Lotus On Nut is one of my favorites, beside gourmet markert emquartier
Both are great
For some reason, this ep is so soothing to me. Watching you shop your grocery and explain things really calms me.❤😁💫
Really? I am so happy to hear that.

LOL
I know you know this, but for those that maybe haven't been to Thailand - If you want to eat cheaper, go Thai!
Nice
Thanks
This clip lets you know that supermarkets like Lotus can find a variety of products and get great discounts.
Yes lots of stuff but there are cheaper places to shop.
This was very helpful, thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Hi Serg,
I think the Supermarkts are more expensive then the markets. Seems some products you'll get only there.
Have a very nive time.
Greetings
Yes, the price is here definitely higher than some of the traditional Thai markets
@@LifewithSerg Yeah and I prefer to buy at the Thai traditional market. Specially by the market at the village. There are not many Farang and I enjoy it there.
I totally agree!
Ya got the Pepsi t on, I just watched you buy that. Good One.
Ha ha. Love this shirt
Unsurprisingly imported items especially luxury or higher end items are more expensive in Thailand than in EU, US. Wines, chocolates, cookies/biscuits etc can easily cost double compared to the West.
Yep absolutely correct. Great variety at Lotus.
It's summer the whole year. Good video. I lived there for 2 years. Normal sized woman. Had to shop from catalogs in 1999.
It’s definitely hot all the time. Ha ah.
Total cost of living here is 1/3 of what you would pay in Germany.
love this always wondered what thailand is like!!
Yes so good.
Super Video Christian 😊sah alles so lecker aus 🎉
Oh yes. So good.
Thank you so much to show Thai super market 😊😮
My pleasure 😊
Serge, can you do a review of computer stores where you can buy laptops, computers, monitors, etc. like JIB etc.
The only reason I did a review here, was, because I actually have to go shopping, and I thought people would find this information. Interesting. Reviewing stores is generally not my type a video.
@@LifewithSerg Well, it depends, you know? If you had a son (kind of a computer genius), little Serzhik, it would be more fun to go computer shopping 🙂
Love this Lotus Onnut!
Yep, it’s a huge Lotus store.
New video Cool . Hope you recovered Serg.
Still got a bit of this respiratory infection. It’s gonna be my fourth or fifth one in the last year here.
This video was helpful. I travel to Pattaya & I will go to a Lotus next time I'm there, thanks mate.
I still haven’t been in that area, I deafly plan to explore it in the next couple of months
Pay so, alley are so beautiful and peaceful. Chiangmai is the CAPITAL, no doubt travelers will go there first before expanding to minor provinces.
Not once it's been on the Internet
I was in KL four years ago and was very impressed by the cleanlnliness and range of the items on offer.
Haven’t been there yet. Will definitely go.

if you like nuts, i found those sold in makro are much cheaper than the rest. for a 500g pack, an exact same brand and package can cost over 100 baht less. i normally only shop at the gourmet market, makro, and foodland. so, i enjoyed your lotus store tour. like lindt too and to my surprise, the price is pretty much the same as what they sell in europe.
Thanks for the tip!
Great video, thanks for immediately providing the dollar value , really helpful 👏👏👏👏👍👍
Glad you found it useful! These are the kind of things I want to know before moving to a different place. Keep in mind that there are much cheaper places to shop here than Lotus.
Nice one Serge . Is t it funny how we say”tuna Fish” but don’t add the fish part to other species ( Salmon fish) 🤪❤️🇹🇭🙏
That is a good point exclamation point English can be a pretty messed up language
Agreed this place is much cheaper than the USA. I'm in San Diego, CA. It's out control here!
My favorite Lays Chips is Seaweed Flavor. You should try it. That’s like the first thing I grab at seven when I arrive in Thailand.
Yes those are so good!
That was very informative
Sweet, glad you liked it.
Dettol Body Wash is my choice as well. Fun fact they started as a “bleach” kind of thing in Hong Kong to clean floors or add along with detergent - I guess it’s also cleaning but more on the hardcore side 😅
Wow. What a transition.
Blueberries, macadamia nuts (my main dessert in the US) seem to be really expensive in Bangkok and it makes me sad...
I’ve bought blueberries here four or five times. They’ve always been disappointing. Just totally tasteless.
Bought some blueberries the other day and imported from Chile
Eat Tropical fruit. They are sweet and juicy. Cold- climate crops like berry will disappoint you.
Some of the larger Tops Supermarkets offer a lot of groceries not found at Big C or Lotus's. Siam Paragon's market also has a great selection.
Yeah I like Tops!
@@LifewithSerg aha! Makes sense. Thank you for this clarification and thank you for this video 👌
That was interesting, I liked it! I do the same thing in the snack isle.
Yeah, I had to get out of that snack aisle very quickly. Lol.
Yes that is so true. I have gargled with slat anytime I had a sore throat.
Eggs don't have to be refrigerated unless they have been washed. The natural bloom on the egg shell makes them air tight.
Yeah same thing I saw in Panama. Good to know.
I have shopped in Big C and Lotus. Can't wait to get back to Thailand.
You should!
In addition to standard department stores There will still be sub-shops that bring products whose standards may decrease somewhat to sell at a price of 20 baht.
Oh yes. The 20 baht stores. I have not been able to find a good one to make a video at. If you could recommend one in Bangkok, that would be great.
cool!
Thank you.
Those Hatari oscillating fans look pretty cool.
Yeah, they’re definitely pretty cool. The condo I moved into had one of those, but I let the owner remove it. They’re always some horrible green, or pink or orange or red color, and just absolutely ruined the aesthetic of the condo.
Singha is lovely, I had it at a local Thai restaurant in England, UK
Yes it’s good!
@@LifewithSerg it's even better than our beer, a lot stronger, a long with traditional Indian beer.
Good video. I noticed you grabbed laundry detergent that was labeled Downy. Isn't Downy a fabric softener only? Maybe it's different there.
I grabbed pods. Downy makes the detergent pods and I prefer them as it’s just easy and I measuring.
1:15 A 15 minute BTS ride away from the grocery store? Is that truly a hardship? I would love that!
* Thanks for replying!

so much packaging on the fresh fruit. Any recycling done there?
The amount of plastic used here is absolutely ridiculous. Yes, they have recycling bins everywhere. They just still have not realized that. If they just use less plastic, there will be less to recycle.
