A tip from Eric Johnson: set the string radius at 12"" on a 7 1/4" radius neck, the action is low in the middle, but higher on the low and high E strings!
I like the way the '68 Landau sounds. It has a nice soft attack. Very musical. Your HH Landau inspires me to do something similar. I like low output humbucker sounds but I want the strat ergonomics.
I been watching your channel and think you are a very good player, but when Robben Ford said " your a badass ",I went and found some live stuff you did.Now I see why Robben says this about you, you ARE a badass and a special player, what you have they don't sell ,you may have an off day ever so often like everybody does, but you are a unique talent and should be more recognized in my opinion.Anyway i just thought you should know this, I'm just a 40 yr good player/ shredder,no name but I have an ear for special talent, and you have it Jeff. Keep it up!!!
Tom, thank you so very much much for taking the time to watch the other videos and for this lovely comment. I really appreciate it. It means a great deal to me. 🙏🏻🙏🏻
You can add some resistors to make 250 go to the singles and 500 go to the humbucker. That wiring is available somewhere online! But 500 on the humbucker
Awesome vid, that black Landau is my dream guitar 🌟 never been keen on larger headstock personally but still wonderful. Love your playing - you have such a light and dynamic touch. Those backing tracks are fantastic for solo practice, do you know where i might find them Cheers 🎸
Jeff that guitar is awesome. Love the Fat 50s. Can you recommend which of your courses for beginner soloing. I’m not interested in shredding but slower more melodic solos
Thanks! Im very happy with it. On truefire I have a course called Beginning Blues Soloing. truefire.com/blues-guitar-lessons/blues-soloing-for-beginners-1/c1731
I love that yellow hh strat and to me it sounds way better than other ML sigs... For me everytime ML 68. 63 Sigs look is amazing but soundwise for me it almost sounds like Lespaul on bridge pu. But yea it's such awesome guitar and more to discover for sure. Love your videos always~!
Haa...JEFF..!!....😅...You got (another) Strat.....hey..i like it...well i would....looks and sounds good...and i too favour the 7 1/4 radius...i tried more modern and larger radiae, but didn't sort of like it...anyway...enjoy it....enjoyed watching and listening again..... yep...and good move to say good bye to the SG...sorry Angus....😀...maybe another time again in the future.....
Happy new guitar bud. I don't understand relic'd guitars. They'll never have providence which means they'll never attain true vintage anyway bud enjoyed the show. 👍👍🥃Respect to you mate.
I just go by if it’s a great guitar or not mainly. In terms of the relic I really don’t care unless is super heavy and crazy looking. As I say in the video. I like the feel of relic necks.
I sold my Krause master built and am forever sorry. But! The guitar it was emulating, a ‘57, was a lowly off the wall standard Strat in its day. I’m not going back to anything without at least 1 humbucker, preferably 2, with coil tapping, of course, and I’m gonna go to some generic place and buy the best Strat they have that isn’t price gouged. Over $4k is ridiculous for any Masterbuilt. Over $2900 is insanity for any “Custom shop”. These dam things are just wood and wire.
I turned you off when "I will put a humbucker and 2 noiseless in there". Sir, that was the most wonderful tone from a strat I've heard in a long time. The black Landau one...but it's your guitar, not mine.👍
Did you turn me off then comment or comment before you turned me off? Lol. I have a number of stats. All the different purposes and are tools for different things. Touring requires different things than sitting at home. As a professional I need all of these options.
hey Jeff, love the black Landau and the humbucker one! I have the 63 red landau-love the shit out of it. regarding the relicing: Isn’t it exactly matched to Landau’s actual guitars? I know my red one is because I’ve seen videos and pictures of the real red 63 Landau and the custom shop re-issue looks exactly like it so it’s not just random relicing. i assume the same is true of the black one?? ps- please don’t put a humbucker in the Bridge buy a cheaper guitar to do that to!!! Also I’m going to beg to disagree with you regarding songs with reference to Jeff Beck versus Pink Floyd I love both but wired and blow by blow are every bit as amazing as the best Floyd stuff (dark side wish you were here and animals- I like comfortably numb but other than that not a huge fan of the wall) in my humble opinion.
Being friends with Schofield, I'm surprised you're not rocking a SVL on the road. They've come the closest to the feel and tone of my '59 out of all the vintage Strat inspired guitars including some custom shop guitars.
Great guitars for sure. I’ve been playing Michael Tuttle’s guitars for ages. And love them, they my not feel exactly like a vintage fender but they feel and play amazing.
@@JeffMcErlain I’ve always read that quality dropped after the sale to CBS, due to cost-cutting measures. I guess the Custom Shop could replicate that but it would seem strange to deliberately build a substandard premium-price instrument.
That guitar is just beautiful. I would LOVE to find one like that. That neck is SO dark. It really makes it and ties it all together.
A tip from Eric Johnson: set the string radius at 12"" on a 7 1/4" radius neck, the action is low in the middle, but higher on the low and high E strings!
That’s right! My guitar repair guy does that. He also work on EJ’s guitars. 🤔
Good for you! That's a beautiful Strat and she sounds so good! 🎸 always love your playing
Beautiful guitar congratulations on your new acquisition 👍🏾
I like the way the '68 Landau sounds. It has a nice soft attack. Very musical. Your HH Landau inspires me to do something similar. I like low output humbucker sounds but I want the strat ergonomics.
I had the red ‘63 Landau- great guitar. Killer player. Figuring guitars are good kinda implies they gotta make you better. That one did.
Beautiful Strat!
Brilliant video and fantastic playing.
Thank you!!
Great Super Strat idea. Hope it did work out!
🖖
what noise free pickups are your preference?
Nice ML68 strat 👍

i want a new strat too...
The specs on that strat are pretty awesome.
Will you keep the 250k pots with the humbucker or put in a 500k for the blk strat?
You can add some resistors to make 250 go to the singles and 500 go to the humbucker. That wiring is available somewhere online! But 500 on the humbucker

Hope you get another tele
I was at work. Have you ever had a guitar plek’ed?.. How does that compare to a pro fret level and polish..
What is the intro music on the countdown?
That’s me. jeffmcerlain.bandcamp.com/track/bitter-end-blues
Jeff, regarding 60s cycle hum: I installed Ulbrick NRS and it works perfect: quiet like humbuckers and ZERO tone loss! Recommended upgrade! Cheers!
I have the Illich silent backplate on a guitar. I have not seen this one. Thanks!!
Just missed it, bummer! Was getting my kids ready for school, then of to work. Just wanted to hang for a couple minutes.
That little lick from like 12:40 to 12:44 is cool. Just mixing major and minor e?
Pretty much!
Totally agree about Steely Dan.
So many guitar builders today put out EXCELLENT guitars..

@@JeffMcErlain I understand bud, it's all about the sound and then feel then look. Pete Townshend used to relic his guitars. 😂😂
Wow! 1968 is my birth year. That would be a cool relic for me to have. Hint, hint. Lol
I’m on it!
I definitely prefer the sound of the black ML strat compared to the ‘64. I think it’s the pickups.
That’s awesome then. It’ll save you a lot of money! Lol. Thanks for watching !!

Just out of interest Jeff you seem to get a lot of sustain on this video at fairly low gain are you using a compressor?
Just using my Kingsley Harlot od and backing my gtr volume back a bit. No compressor.
@@JeffMcErlain cheers Jeff. The kingsley may have to be looked into for a purchase.
Hmmmm. Options today CAN BE BETTER THAN THE FENDER CUSTOM SHOP...
Here’s a thing - the Custom Shop version is bound to be better made than the CBS era original.
Not necessarily.

The things you read on the internet don't always match reality.
I prefer the 2 HUMBUCKER STRAT..
Can you make that strat sound like Rory Gallagher ?
I can make is sound like me. Kinda the only thing I’m interested in! 😉
Ironic that arguably one of the most emotional players ever isn't emotional about his instruments.
Wow $4800 new. Uhhhh
A used Don Grosh...A Ernie Ball Music man....a Shur....Even a Reverend...etc.
Sounds killer Jeff.... Sweet Axe!
