This turned out more thought provoking than I thought it’s be lol but it goes to show that just because you have a certain model of a monitor the year matters just as much if not more than the model itself.
Awesome video!! So interesting to hear the differences--thanks so much for doing this. I'm curious, which two sounded the most musical to you? I'm assuming the 80s OG (147511) ones and then another pair?
Very interesting video. I own CLA10as and have set the VTPC around 40% but I use them quietly that's why it works well for me. But anyway I get better mixes on Auratones haha - there's something special in not having any crossover and that paper 4 inch woofer that makes balancing incredibly easy and accurate. A bit too much snare on them sounds unacceptable while on CLA10as it's still ok, they're a bit less forgiving in a transient-sustain aspect and some mid eq details.
Just by trying to click back on forth on the video, i'd say 80's Original, CLA with 25% and possibly the 80's Original with Bold North cones. Lucky me i still use the 80's Originals ! Pleased to hear those CLAs doing good. I downloaded the files but i don't have PT on this laptop lol, and i can't work out what is what with the audio files. Thanks for doing this Jesse ;)
So is the CLA-10a worth it? I am looking for a great midrange monitor and the CLA is being sold at a high price in my country. I don't know if it would be better to buy the ns-10m used or buy the new CLA.
Wow NS10 enjoyer, i dream of owning one, one day. Can't afford one, baby on the way 🤞. Would love to get one someday. I use a poor man's NS10, Logitech Z120 xD
I have used both and mixed on both they are not the same but they share the same characteristics , some of em at least that was my experience @@ChrisBessy
80's + Bold North felt and sounded fairly accurate to the original recording. maybe had 5% more attitude. CLA10a with VTPC attenuated would be closest between 0 and 25% ... 15%?
I wouldn't say I "fell" for anything. A few years back, there was a real need to deliver the format, and I wasn't about to A) let another engineer butcher new atmos versions of my stereo mixes, and B) leave money on the table when I had two new babies and a family to feed at home. 2021 into 2022 was an interesting time: Labels were incentivized to provide atmos versions of all modern and back-catalog releases, and at first, there was almost no limit to what they would pay in order to fulfill that. 99% of people who set up atmos rigs, did it purely as a money-making move (it was a literal goldrush, until it wasn't), not so much because of their (passion or belief) in the format of Atmos & Spatial Audio. Now that's all over the rates have dissolved by 80%. We're still delivering the atmos file for the time being, but it's only out of necessity. With that being said, I ride a fine conflicted line between feelings of gratitude for the income opportunities Atmos brought me during that period of time, and intense feelings of disgust for the introduction, force-fed application, and overall evil agenda of the entire thing. It's flat-out WRONG to use fear tactics to trick engineers that they need to spend $100k on a rig, otherwise they'll be "left behind", when the truth is that there is no actual growing need for this format. I pieced together my atmos rig with pieces I had already had, on a shoestring budget. But the truth is that every atmos mix I've ever done, was done 100% on Airpods; works great and doesn't cost an arm and a leg :)
i have the original ns10 that stands up with a quad 404 and both me and my neighbors love it.
You're a mad man!!!
Okay, NS10 atmos is wild! You should make a video about that!
This is amazing. Your neighbors must think you're crazy. haha.
What a great idea this was. Thank you so much, this was very much needed!!
Goodness, you got so many of those. I got only 2 pairs around 1995 and still used them.
This turned out more thought provoking than I thought it’s be lol but it goes to show that just because you have a certain model of a monitor the year matters just as much if not more than the model itself.
I've been waiting for a video like this for years :)
thank you so much for the files
Perfect UA-cam material. Cheers for the effort!

But Jesse, which one is your favorite?!
The NS10's
@@JohnnyAllan-vj7sj 😂
You may try to get the NS-10M X too, that is the newer and more refined version from 1993, but it is rare though
OG 80’s and CLA-10 @25% 🤘🏼
#NS10FOREEEEEEVA
I love my Ns10, you inspired me to collect as I wanted to use them for atoms
great video I have the ns10 70's and was thinking about to getting to 80s

Love the sound of the crossover mod! Reminds me a wee bit of that “scooped” proac sound.
Totally! I adore ProAcs.
@@jesseraymix Same! I can’t mix on anything else 😁
Amazing

ns10mx are the best I've had.
Same!
If you can get a used Crown CE2000 or CL2 your NS10’s will smile ❤.
I fully intend to do an amp shootout next :)
Sold my NS10’s when I switched to Amphion. No regrets. Fascinating video Jesse - thanks!

Definitely worth it bro. I’ve had a pair for a year now. Set the VTPC in the range of 25%-40% and you’re good to go.
Bro!! Who else thinks the black woofers look DOPE??!!!

I would say if you like ns10 switch to Hs series they might not sound the same but they have the same characteristics
No
Noob
really really NOT .... I use ns10 and HS7 in my studio. It's 100% not the same sound.
I have used both and mixed on both they are not the same but they share the same characteristics , some of em at least that was my experience @@ChrisBessy
HS are a different kind of shitty. Not useful shitty like NS10’s.
Which ones translate better?

I can't trust someone who fell for the atmos hype

OMG you did NS10 Atmos? You must hate yourself. NS10T's didn't make your shoot out?
I haven't had an opportunity to hear those yet! I'd love to try them
@@jesseraymix They are as bad as any other NS10's
