    Sorry, this doesn't get a pass because it was made 25 years ago. And it wasn't first or unique it what it did. It was recently CHOSEN to be made into a film for reasons we all know. Woke didn't begin 5 years ago, guys. The origins go back to the 60's and 70's (and before that throughout history, but that''s a long story). It infiltrated universities and art communities first, and was kept at bay by the sensibilities of the older generations. Then in the last 10-15 years, the people "conditioned" in those universities finally came of the right age to wield and real power at high levels (35-50 years old).

    • @RMartian76
      @RMartian76 День тому

      The term "woke" was coined in the 1930s and simply meant to stay racially and socially aware or conscious of injustice, which is a good thing and is an idea that's been around long before then. In the last 10 or so years, it was co-opted and twisted into something bad for some people or to justify media companies being stupidly preachy about such issues, which is annoying, but still a good thing.
      It has nothing to do with some grand conspiracy between universities and art communities, but about the manipulation of words for conflict and clicks (aka money).

      That's some hard truth, right there. More and more, over the last several decades, there has been a push to humanize villains, both in fiction and in real life. Well, Anakin's descent into becoming Darth Vader took 3 movies. It was less about one isolated event or thing that made him turn, but being overwhelmed by his fears of loss, his anger and further lust for power, being unable to hold on to Jedi's principles and virtues, finally getting corrupted and losing his path in the end.
    So Crhis, if what you're saying about this wicked witch is true and she is not really evil, why draw comparisons with anakin's villain arc? He was DEFINETELY evil, at least for a while, in Star Wars.

    You’re crazy if you think the Anakin Skywalker story would have been better if told like wicked. Anakin has to fall by letting the evil aspects of his character hold sway over his mind, desires, and choices. If he turns to Darth Vader because the wickedness of society drives him there, then his redemption in Return of the Jedi means nothing. He never finally chooses to root out the evil of HIS own character, and Luke’s ability to do that without going to the dark side for a time has less redemptive power to call Anakin back. Luke’s vision encounter of Vader on Degoba where his own face was in Vader’s helmet would mean nothing, because society would be the villain, not each one of us in our own wickedness.

But in the eyes of Hollywood, you know darned well who the "systemically" targeted folks are and that is exactly why the lead role had to be cast the way it was. This is so transparent. I hope folks see this for what it is and say NO, but if it's a well-made film (which it sounds like it is), families are going to make this a hit. Oh well.
