Germany's Deutsche Bahn build a highspeed rail connection between Berlin and Munich which was supposed to shorten a 4 hour train ride to like 2.5hours but due to some scheduling error the trains just has a 1.5 hour delay every time.

I get the frustration, last week I had a trip in Japan. That day I went to Akihabara and decided to have Yakiniki Like for lunch. The store was quite full that day and I had to queue up for a while. When I sat down to eat, the queue was gone. There was this white dude wanting to come in for lunch as well, but there were no seats avaliable. The waiter kept telling him to wait outside but I guess he didn't know any Japanese and kept seeing the waiter gesture him to go outside. I think he thought the store did not welcome him or maybe he just did not want to wait, he left immediately and I felt so bad for the dude.

Yes, europe does have high speed trains. France who were the first to have high speed trains with the TGV (trains à grandes vitesse) these tgv's are used in France since the 70's. To this day if you go on holiday in France it is still the quickest and cheapest alternative for national travelling.

France, Italy, Spain and Germany all have high speed rail systems with trains as fast as the Shinkansen, and Spain’s network is bigger than Japan’s.
I think a lot of the interest in the Shinkansen just comes from Brits, Americans and tourists from countries without their own high speed rail network.

The TGVs are generally faster, most lines have a nominal operation of 320km/h, and so does almost all of the rolling stock. On the shinkansen only about half of the Tohoku line is rated for 320 (Utsunomiya to Morioka) though JR is working to upgrade the second half (to Shin-Aomori). Most of the rolling stock is only rated for 300 or even just 320, only the E5, H5, and E6 are rated for 320.

I have to say, I use the german ICE a lot and also used the shinkansen, both 1st class/green car, the seats in the shinkansen are nicer, also the train is a bit wider, also the windows allign with the seats and mobile connection is working nearly permanently, but except for that there isn't a great difference. Some things like the toilets in the ICE are even better.
Biggest advantage of japanese trains is that you know excactly where which car is located so that you don't have to run up the entire train to get in your car.

We have various modes of public transportation in the US. Depending on the city where you live, options differ. I live in a city where just about everything I need in my daily life is less than a 1 mile walk from my apartment. If I’m traveling more than a couple of miles, I can take a bus or the subway. People seem to be confusing the fact that all countries have more populated areas than others. In general no matter what country you’re in, the suburban areas will have fewer access to public transportation. This goes for Japan as well. Where I live you don’t need to own a car, and I’ve lived here for 15 years. But there are parts of my city that have fewer access to things, and having a car would be beneficial. I think many Americans are afraid to give up their cars.

My brother in particular is picky about his food, so when we went to Japan as adults, and then came back, he's actually in mourning for a while. Because every sushi he tastes now that we're back isn't as fresh as the ones we had back in Japan. I told him to suck it up bc wtf.

Can confirm Chinese bullet train is as good as Japan's. Their stations have a ton of food options to bring for ride and you can also order simple food and drinks aboard. If you know what to do, you can also order takeaway to be delivered to your train if it has stops.
As for Europe, afaik Germany has a bullet train. It doesn't look bad at all. If iirc, Germany is one of the countries that contributed to the bullet train techs in China.
