The shift from Jasper looking smugly about Steven telling the Crystal Gems not to follow him, to her “🥺” face when she heard “you too, Jasper” has a house with a 2nd mortgage in my mind

I remember thinking that White Diamond would've been the only one to actually know how Steven would be feeling both emotionally and mentally, since she was also able to channel his thoughts and emotions through her, so she probably would've been more helpful to the other gems after that but probably not for Steven.
imo she'd know the most about how he feel, but she still wont understand him. She isn't really an emphathetic person, so I doubt that she'd give much help to Steven

@@deecollinssuperitandficays863Not really, if you think about it 😅. Spinel and Steven were dealing with two totally different and separate situations. Spinel was dealing with unresolved abandonment issues that scarred her into resentment and then choosing to lash out at others do to their percieved happiness. Obviously, I know that she was attacking Earth and the Crystal Gems because they were stuff Pink cared about, but you get the idea. Steven on the other hand, while dealing with similar abandonment issues, was more centered around his lack of a true purpose in life after the events of the previous series. Not only that, but his trauma largely stemmed from him putting others' personal matters above his own, as well as his struggle to identify with either his human or Gem side of himself.
What both Spinel and Steven do share in common though is their penance for having attempted to "kill" others, with Steven having actually touched on the cusp of doing so with having initially shattered Jasper. Compared to Spinel though, it's obvious that this subject is weighing more heavily on Steven's shoulders do to his own personal beliefs, as well as his principles against shattering that he ultimately broke. And because Steven at this point in his situation, believes that the only way for him to get a handle on his Diamond powers and Diamond part of himself is to seek counsel with the other Diamonds, there's not really much Spinel could help with in terms of understanding or relating to Steven. She could provide comfort to Steven, but it's obvious that her form of comfort comes off as a bit too strong, especially given how she's meant to have an exaggerated comedic nature to her (Think 1920's rubberhose cartoons if you will 😅). And that's not the type of comfort Steven is looking for, but you can say that Steven's stress is overwhelming him to the point of being unable to react to things well.
EDIT: I want to note that I'm aware that both Steven and Spinel also share in common their struggles with self-identification (which is a running theme for this franchise). But their struggles were still wildly different to one another do to the contexts of them. I also want to note that one's trauma is not bigger than the other's when it comes to these two, just different.
The pillar scene where Steven tried to hurt White Diamond was one of the best scenes in the show for me. He wants everyone to feel the same pain that they have caused him, but in the end he only ended up hurting himself. He was smashing his own head against the wall at the end of the day. That was some incredibly powerful stuff tbh. White Diamond even said he would only be talking to himself, but he played out his revenge fantasy - one where he could control and hurt the one's who traumatized him. I think it really shows that we can only control ourselves, but there isn't a magic solution to make the pain go away. Sometimes solutions that just make us happy actually dismiss dealing with the real problem. Steven doesn't want to hear his own advice spat back at him. It feels disingenuous to not deal with his particular problems. Regardless, Spinel was completely right. Only Steven can make the change, but we are seeing Spinel after she has worked through her problems. Change takes time.
You can't just hide the physical manifestation of your problems. Distracting yourself with drugs, adrenaline, or work can't fix your problems. Expending energy on hatefullness only brings harm to yourself. You sometimes can't see the solution to your problems until you have come to that solution yourself.
I like seeing these messages beginning to play out in the first part of the finale. This episode took the time to show its audience how these types of coping mechanisms are still harmful.
Honestly, I liked that scene too because it also showed that Steven still hasn't fully healed from the pain others gave him. He's a very forgiving person, but honestly just making him just forget about everything and move on just seems wrong for him.

The fact Pink/Rose also left the other diamonds and crystal gems,,,, I never realized how much Steven began to behave like his mom.
And I believe that Steven’s corruption was caused by him accepting not only this but he became WORSE than his mom, because atleast SHE lied about killing someone
You know I'll be honest I actually do think White's methods proved the most helpful to Steven. Cause regardless of how Steven reacted when he entered her mind, she did what she was supposed to do. She figured out something was seriously wrong with him. Did she directly help him? No. But when she realized he needed help, she took herself and the other Diamonds to Earth when Steven become a monster. If she hadn't, Yellow would not have been there to make Garnet big enough to hug Steven, and Blue wouldn't have lifted everyone else to do the same in order to bring out his humanity. So she really did indirectly help him in the best possible way. Great analysis.
Nothing like watching a great breakdown of one of my favorite shows to wind down after a long day. It's like a nerdy bedtime story and I love it :)

Blue's change in ability felt less like a drug reference and more like the feeling you get when you crash back to your parent's place and your folks are pretty chill and happy to have you back. You feel coddled and warm but it's not a solution, it's a blanket to cover up some real issues. This feels so appropriate for Blue considering she's the parental figure in the show that first really hears Steven out during Change Your Mind. Now, it seems she's at a point where she can actually be a great caregiver, but Steven's problems need to be figured out a little more directly and honestly, not coddled to the point that he forgets that they're there.
But also, I love being able to say Blue is just getting high with her gems.

I’ve been rewatching both Steven Universe and Adventure and whenever I get to episodes you’ve covered I feel a much deeper sense of appreciation for them and fall in love with those shows all over again from the little details you point out I’d never even noticed before

Wow! There where only 10 episodes left after a Single Pale rose!? (I feel so old)I can't remember why, but i was in huge denial about the Rose being Pink Diamond. I was beyond upset about the reveal, but I huffed some copium and got over it.
I saw some one pointed out that Roses was a reverse character arch: we saw her final form first, and how she started last.
Amazing conclusion to the Bad Advice trilogy!! I always love when you find specific lines that could seem relatively innocent, but hold so much of the theme of the episode/arc in it.
I think a video on Cry for Help (or any of the episodes regarding Pearl & Garnet's falling out and subsequent making up) would make for a great analysis!

I definitely enjoyed this episode and I even understand why Steven still has problems with the diamonds. While Steven doesn't have to forgive the diamonds for all they put him through, I wish that he at least recognized that they are making an attempt to do better, particularly Yellow Diamond and especially Blue Diamond. White Diamond doesn't feel entirely genuine until the end of the episode. I honestly hate how Steven gets worse at the end of the episode, but it's still understandable. I personally love Blue Diamond, how much she loved Pink Diamond and grew to care for Steven, and the fact that she got the last new song of the series, which was good in itself.
What I gathered is that Steven never wanted to kill white he most likely wanted to kill himself because how much he try’s to push his trauma onto someone else it keeps crawling back to him
I wish I could’ve seen more of the Diamonds and actually seen the consequences of shattering White Diamond, it would’ve spiraled into something un-fixable and really would’ve shown that he’s no better than his mother and her powerful tantrums.
In my opinion the Diamonds represent the worst kind of therapy you can get:
Yellow: Surgery without checking for reasons
Blue: Medication without addressing the cause of the symptoms
White: Reflection without advice on how to move on from there
With this they are the same as in the original series:
Yellow: Keeping herself busy, driving an expansion without a goal
Blue: Drowning in emotion without the ability to process and to move on
White: Clinging to the status quo and shutting everything else out
Spinel seems to be doing better because the root problems of her emotional distress, namely abandonment, betrayal and loneliness, are not looming over her at the moment on homeworld.
What bugs me about Steven, Connie, and Lars (the only humans who have went to homeworld) is that they're able to breathe on homeworld. Originally an alien planet specifically made for gems, which don't have lungs to breathe some type of gas to survive. We can't just assume homeworld has oxygen, they never hinted or said anything about that. So i hope someday Rebecca Sugar says something about that, who knows.

I love Steven Universe and Future, so watching your videos on the series has been really great. I just finished rewatching most of Future too. I was pretty much fine with how much the Diamonds had changed. Given the amount of time since the end of the original series and the impact Steven had on them, I thought it was believable enough that they would have changed into at least trying to be better people. Granted, it still relies on mostly off-screen development, but I still thought it generally worked. I think it also worked in showing how all of their powers have been reversed. Steven's powers were always more defensive based, but they're becoming more aggressive. The Diamonds' powers have become more focused on healing/helping other Gems instead of hurting them.
While their desire to help Steven was genuine, there was nothing that they could do to really help him. He was too upset and lashing out at any kind of immediate solution despite clearly wanting one. Seeing himself in White Diamond was absolutely the worst thing for him at his near breaking point. I never really realized that Steven only hurt himself during that scene. One detail I really liked was how this showed that Steven didn't completely forgive the Diamonds. I remember that complaint coming up quite a bit after the end of the original series. I could understand that to a point given that they destroyed countless worlds across the galaxy, it still fit with the themes of the series like how communication and empathy are vital to potentially mending conflicts/relationships. But I liked how this episode shows that Steven didn't forgive them completely. He might be at least on good terms with them and at least based on the movie, was happy to see them being better people, but Steven was still clearly traumatized from what they did, especially White Diamond. They may still see each other as family, but it a much more complicated kind of relationship than what he has with the Crystal Gems.
i remember how this episode was leaked in the middle of a pandemic... at like 3 am... ahhh memories
Technically this episode was supposed to play during a theatrical release of Steven Universe The Movie, but after the pandemic hit, Cartoon Network decided to dump it onto their website. Besides, considering how the episode ended, I think they made the right choice.
Normally I would write a long analysis about this as well but instead I’ll give a list of other episodes that mean a lot to me that could have a lot of dissection:
An Indirect Kiss(personal favorite and it critically puts Steven under his moms shadow and gives him his first major desire to live up to her)
Full Disclosure and or Joy Ride (besides The Test these episodes to me is where we get our best glimpse early on of what Stevens future problems will be, we see how he feels he has a duty to protect the world and doesn’t see it as a problem for him that he has all these responsibilities but it’s a problem for other people in his life)
Rose’s Scabbard (when we see the comparisons of Steven and run deeper than lineage. The use of Pearl here both clues in the future audience that she knew rose was pink this whole time as well as setting up the love triangle with Greg and also the question of is Steven really Steven that is confronted in change your mind)

Hey just want to say I'm not sure a part of this is accurate. You say Steven is the only one smashing his head against the pillar, but consider the environment.
When Spinel posseses white they both move in tandem, and after this scene the pillar just next to white diamond has been completely destroyed. This pillar is intact before the scene, heavily implying both White and Steven smashed their heads - white so hard that the entire pillar crumbles!
Diamonds are the toughest substance out there which is why White didn't actually damage her gem and the pillar was obliterated

The one episode of Future I didn't remember so much until I rewatched it, and then it hit me in the feels: Volleyball. We already know Pearl had issues in the past with others potentially knowing Rose as well or better than she did, but to find out Rose/Pink had a Pearl before her, and that she wound up so badly damaged in a way that even a Germ can't recover from thanks to her, I think made Pearl finally open her eyes entirely to Rose/Pink not being a very good person for a lot of her life. The ending shot of Pearl hugging Volleyball and the camera not showing whether or not her experience with Pearl and fusing with her fixed her was also beautifully done.
I love this video because WOW so much thought was out into this.
I am the #1 steven universe future apologist, and it was very, VERY overhated. I loved every second of it, and this makes me love it more!!!!111!

I know Steven doesn't really forgive them, and I'm not a fan of how rushed it felt, but I am happy that the Diamonds are genuinely on the right track, and they deserved to be a part of the finale.
one of the episodes I've related to the most in the entirety of Steven Universe is Steven vs. Amethyst, because Amethyst's struggle felt alot like my self-worth problems because of my specific kind of disability. If you want to make a video on that episode, I would love to see it!!!!!!!

While I DO understand that PTSD works differently through anyone who experiences it, does that excuse Steven's behavior towards the Diamonds.
They're clearly showing signs that they want to change for the better both in terms of their overall behavior and how Homeworld is during Future. I'm particularly impressed by how much work Yellow was putting into restoring all the Gems she shattered and/or experimented on over the centuries. Yet Steven continues to act like they're being bad people.
The only issue I had was what Blue Diamond decided to use her powers for.
Instead of creating clouds that give only temporary bliss, Blue SHOULD have used them to create a sort of mist or steam; sort of like her version of Aroma Therapy
Oddly enough, that's an angle I like. It's an established part of Steven's character that he's able to forgive anyone and befriend everyone- so here we see him seeing people who have done him wrong changing for the better- but he can't put their past behind him. He's struggling to keep that part of himself and it's only adding to this identity crisis where we see piece by piece him disobeying every rule we've set in place about his character.

@@SilverScribe85 I don't think he hates his old self, but he just isn't the same, and pretending that nothing's changed is taking a mental toll on him. He's older now, and having everyone used to him as a kid when he's just not the same these days is a lot of pressure and it feels like he's not allowed to grow up.
@@pieflower6419 I don't think it's like that; personally, I think the Gems just missed Steven's playful self and he was spending too much time "adulting."
Plus, as this video pointed out, Spinel remained the same (personality-wise) in some ways and Steven seemed angry about that
No one is excusing Steven from doing wrong things, and we should not excuse the diamonds too from what they've done in the past, even if they're doing better now. We can appreciate their change, but we shouldn't forget the pain they caused to Steven too. Im not saying it's right for Steven to treat everyone rude, but those emotions doesn't come out of no where. They were just suppressed for a long time and it's finally bursting out now. Also I don't think Steven is purposely treating them badly, it's just that he cant even treat himself well in this state, so it's natural that he'd unintentionally (often intentionally) harm the others.
