What a terrible thing Ford decided to do. This was an iconic attraction loved by so many children and adults; from its modernist architecture to the great exhibits it had. I can’t believe it had to end that way when they could literally repair it. When I was a bus driver at Eglinton division 10-20 years ago, I drove the Don Mills and Eglinton East buses respectively. Good day, Beautiful Johnny Strides!! The best part of your walk was when that young man recognized you & commented about the Science Centre, in particular, that it is educational, & have to agree. It is up to educational departments of schools & such to take an interest in showcasing the Science Centre. It would be a shame if it closed, as there are schools outside of Toronto which take their students to Toronto to visit & learn about places like the Science Centre. What would be the reason for this closure, maybe a councillor watches your videos & can answer that... Thanks again, Beautiful Johnny Strides, for a beautiful walk! Cheers & stay safe out there! 🥰🥰🦅🦅🦅🦅
Thanks for this timely video, Johnny! What a crappy end to the locally beloved and world-renowned Ontario Science Centre. I am totally suspicious of Doug Ford's motives. I hope the will of the people wins out in the end and the Science Centre is saved.

Don Mills is an interesting road via the express bus north south. Buildings of architectural significance can be spotted along the route. Conservatives have been traditionally anti-science in Canada.
"ONTARIO, OPEN FOR BUSINESS" what that sign really was saying was "ONTARIO, FOR SALE". Oh, the Dean French patronage scandal wasn't a big enough red flag. Infrastructure Ontario has conducted an initial review of 190 provincial government buildings - such as courthouses and offices - that were built around the province in the era of concern, roughly 1955 to 1975. That review ruled out the presence of RAAC in more than half, with further investigations in the coming weeks on 79 buildings - 49 of which are currently occupied, said Michael Lindsay, Infrastructure Ontario's CEO. None of them have been ordered vacated, and Lindsay said he does not anticipate any will

The engineers report said it 'could' collapse with a heavy snow load but that it was only a small percentage of the roof panels that the report felt had any issues. The area could have been closed off until the panels were replaced *Before October* I believe that Ford wanted this prime real estate for his developer 'friends' and had this planned all along.
The local news reported that a risk of roof collapse on the building earlier this month. They decided to close down the whole centre on account of an engineer's report; thought it would be until the repairs are done (like for the summer) but hearing around how the government decided to shut it down indefinitely, not too surprising. They'd been discussing relocating the venue to another decades-long shutdown venue's location at Ontario Place by the Exhibition Grounds by the lake shore. While I would love to see Ontario Place's being revitalize again, it's something we'll be waiting a long time to happen, like the Eglinton Crosstown LTR (Line 5 of the TTC?) Too many projects in the city's works with not much getting finished, I'm thinking.
The long view answer; Ford does not care for facts, as they are often inconvenient and in contradiction to his chosen narrative. He finds the scientific method to discover truths problematic as it often runs counter to what snake oil he's trying to sell to a dumbed down electorate. So I'm told...
Because the group trying to save it has been trashing Doug Ford publicly for over a year. Ford had enough and found a reason to close it, apparently the roof is going to collapse!

The displays haven't changed for many years. Went there with my kids few times in last couple of decades. As a museum freak myself, the Science Centre is a 1-visit place as there isn't anything that will be calling out to me to go back for 2nd deeper look.
I just went there in December. Its still a decent Science Center. It was FULL when I went there, the parking lots were full and police directing ppl to overflow lots and the center itself packed with long lines going to back and front of center. However, the theater there is terrible and needs to be replaced/renovated/updated. Also, the bus going back and forth from front to back of building wastes an hour with the lines in both directions, so if you want to catch a movie in the middle of the tour it'll eat up a lot of time and you wont have as much time in the center itself.
