If you want to be IPS, then you need to build a strong base from the beginning. I heard that it is one of the toughest exams to crack. I advice you to first become a sub inspector, then later you can give exam for IPS. Or else you will waste so many years being unemployed only trying to crack the exam. If you become SI, then you can take a leave before the exam and study and give test.
