hey, it was nice meeting you out there man. I agree, not as much as I wouldve hoped for for my first year, but an experience nonetheless. Appreciate the video!
I'm glad Gibson, Fender, Marshall, etc weren't there. People need a reminder that there are more interesting guitars and gear being made by smaller companies.
It seems this year that the smaller brands were more enthusiastic presenting new gear. Also some of the bigger brands you mentioned have such a huge presence on social media that they now probably don't need to have a display at Namm show.
I agree on disappointment about no Mick news. Another thing I was hoping for was an announcement on Dime Guitar Company. Hopefully, I won't have to wait much longer.
Most of the brands you listed in your first bullet point, Jackson, Charvel, EVH, are owned by Fender. So if Fender aren't going, none of these brands are going as well and that also includes Gretsch. Marshall is busy making Bluetooth speakers and refrigerators, honestly wouldn't be surprised if they stopped making amps all together at some point. Gibson/Epiphone decided to hold their own exclusive launch party instead. But your right, these brands showing up would have made the show a little more exciting.
Honestly I think Neural nailed the marketing side with that sign, cause now we're all wondering what that "soon" means and makes us more aware of their media/releases
@@allstopblue5717 Agreed, I hate their e-mail marketing. I like to stay up to date about new releases but they are very spammy. The Soon-stuff has run its course.
Neural DSP confirmed in their September 2023 news update that plug-in compatibility on the Quad Cortex will be "block-based", meaning the amp models and effects will be in a block format in the grid (where you can freely move them around). The QC's screen does not have the resolution to accurately display the plug-ins' GUI. Hope this helps.
In general, trade shows have been struggling since the pandemic. Companies figured out how to market virtually during that time, and it’s hard to regain that in-person experience. Musical equipment is so personal that it’s hard to understand why companies aren’t coming back as strong.
Don’t most plug in companies give you a 7 day trial before they require you to buy it? What would be the point to open a booth when you can just send out trial packages to everyone instead of spending a ton of money on a trade show.
I didn’t attend NAMM but I did go to Kiesel Connect in Escondido. It was an awesome event and I got to meet a bunch of endorsed artists. NAMM is a dying events as you can see with the lack of manufacturers in attendance. Jeff Kiesel said he sees no reason to spend the money to attend. I think the Kiesel Connect was a huge success and lots of orders were placed during the event.
So I recently got the Fender tone master pro modeling unit, I've enjoyed it.... but very surprised no fender booth to promote it or anything they are working on in the future! Looking at the internal hardware of the unit, it's got the processing power of any laptop, I wish they would give it functionality to import pluggins, and it would be a game changer.
@xanderraymondcharles I know you vibe on real amps and plug-ins. Is there any chance we could see you review the Fender Tmp? I would say this is a selfless request, except I'm kind of having problems dialing in a really sick 7 string tone, especially when I start to detune. literally, no one on youtube has a video that can help me get there! Save me baritone lord!

The amount of money those brands make has to offset any cost it requires to go there. Atleast the big brands I mean you know. I totally agree with everything you said. Same things I thought myself.
Meh blowing $100k for nothing is silly regardless of the size of your company. The big brands don’t need to go to trade shows because business will always seek them out. Much more effective for them to do their own online thing with carefully curated content
What??? A convention full of guitars that are priced 3x too high...whats disappointing about that? Im going to put a bunch of junk in epoxy, add some strings and pickups and sell em for 10 grand.
I didn't even realize that so many brands weren't there, my UA-cam subscribe page has been getting bombarded by all the other coverage so I never even noticed. I wonder if there is something else going on for all the major players to not be showing up to the one event I can think of to show off all their cool gear.
Interesting that you mentioned the E-II. I just got into guitars about 3 months ago and last week I ordered an ESP E-II SN-2 Snapper in the Nebula Black Burl (left-handed model) and it arrives next week so I hope it’s awesome. I wished there were new E-IIs this year hoping to see if they made any new left-handed version since ESP/LTD shows love to lefties like me. Love your content and your honesty!
@@LeirbagFR I’m sure you kill it with your Squire. 20 years is a ton of experience. I bet you can play any type of music when you’ve been playing for that long. A Taylor GS Mini was my 1st guitar I got 3 months ago but I wanted an electric as well so I’ve been saving for an E-II because I’ve heard if you get a guitar you’re attracted to that you really want then it drives you to play it more often so hopefully that’s the case so I can improve. I’ll pretty much be playing this guitar for years to come, especially since new left-handed models are rare so I don’t have much option compared to right-handed guitar models. I hope you can obtain your dream guitar if it is not already your wonderful Squire!
Gibson and Fender (and their sub-brands) have zero excuse for not going to NAMM. Fender, EVH, Jackson, and Squire is literally not too far from the convention. The costs to set up a booth would be far less than most brands with booths because they don’t have to ship products and displays from half way around the country or world. Just gotta load up some cars or uHauls, drive from Calabasas to Anaheim, setup, and done. Instead, they cheaped out or didn’t want to be bothered. Gibson also literally went to LA and did an entire PRIVATE, invite-only event of their own to unveil their lineup. They probably spent more money to make that happen - renting a space, decorating, I’m sure there was some kind of food/drink, having displays made, event staffing, shipping all the guitars/amps/displays across the country and back, flying Gibson staff and board members to LA and back, etc. . . . rather than just showing up to NAMM. Gibson definitely dropped far more coin on their “red carpet” style breakaway event and invested more time/effort in planning and hosting an event that was clearly meant to attract investors (remember that Gibson is supposedly up for sale?!). And even if they wanted to do that, would it have killed them to drop a few more bucks at that point to show up to NAMM and have a booth too?! They were already in the neighborhood after all! Yeah, zero excuse for all of the above parties.
I only slightly disagree; They owe an explanation to their customers, because the customers have a right to know if their purchase is going to be supported, or if the company is just going to fold. They also owe an explanation to their employees and vendors. Great video though, you make an excellent point!
The absence of a new E-II was a big disappointment; I own two of them and they're great. But no new Prestige from Ibanez either. And the third disappointment is that Peavey teased the Vandenberg a second time after Musikmesse but we still don't have a release date, and knowing Peavey, even if their high-end guitars are made in Europe, they won't be available for a long time in Europe just as the new 6505 amp series isn't either.
Although I didn't go I was glad the big ones weren't there by their own choice! It gave many of the smaller mfg's a chance to steal the limelight. When you get too big for your own customers.

I write reviews and even gossip and I had zero new to write about after the show other than the odd variation of an already available guitar. Paint jobs, pickups or some pointless high end limited edition do NOT make a great show. In short we do not need to see another Strat because it is a darker shade of red this year. Such a show would have millions and millions riveted to You Tube and all the music media.
The fact that there were no "big" guitar brands at the NAMM, makes more room and highlight on smaller guitar builders such as "Sully Guitars", or "Cream Guitars", "Balaguer", "Ormsby", "PJD Guitars", etc ....
