  • New York City fashion designer Stephen Burrows’ 1970s disco knits rank at the top of every vintage collector’s must-have list. Burrows was way before his time, explains his current muse, Anna Cleveland.
In this episode of Collaborators, Anna and Stephen visit Burrows' archival warehouse in NYC, where the legendary disco dress designer and rule-breaker shares down the practical needs that drove him to fashion design. Instead of traditional woven fabrics, he chose to work with knits to breathe more life into the shape of his dresses, adorned with the signature Stephen Burrows' "lettuce edge" scalloping.

I've wondered about Stephen Burrows. We've never met but I purchased a lovely light knit, black sleeveless evening dress in Detroit maybe in the late 70s or 80s at Sak's. Thank you for your contribution to the fashion world.
