  • Watch this video to see how to use the Flexible Metal Tack Strips, used to attach fabric panels to upholstered furniture. This flexible tack strip is used primarily in curved areas where the other types of tack strips (straight metal tack strip or cardboard tack strips) won’t work. Use the flexible tack strip where an edge takes a turn/curve like on curved arms, outside wings and arched backs of chairs. This flexible tack strip (also called ply grip) is stapled in place on your chair and then its teeth grip and hold the fabric in place.

    Want to add my voice of thanks to Sailrite for their how to videos. We just completed a re-upholstery of an old chair that belonged to my parents. Following the plygrip application everything looks really professional. Thanks Sailrite!

    Repairing the seating cushions on a boat for a customer and it had one of these straps. Now I know what they're called and how to apply them. And where to buy replacement strips!

    I am replacing foundations for twin beds from standard to low profile and need to use the same expensive bedskirts. I am hoping that these tack strips would work. I need something that can be removed easily to launder the bedskirt when necessary and use again.

      I do not recommend them for that application. They are meant to be a permanent application only.

    quante cose imparo con voi,,, mi son sempre chiesta come facevano i tappezzieri a farlo cosi bene... io ho fatto il "fai da te" con sedie diverse ,anche se riuscite discrete con molta fatica ,mi chiedevo come lo facevano i professionisti.ORA LO SO.. non sapevo esistessero queste strisce di denti..grazie

    Can the flexible tack strip be used to hold a chair's seat fabric along welt/piping running around the bottom edges of the seat next to a carved wooden frame? Or will the up-and-down motion created by people sitting on a chair cause stress on the fabric pulling against the teeth and metal edges of the tack strip?

    • @SailriteDIY
      @SailriteDIY  5 років тому +1

      No, this flexible tack strip is not made for applications where an occupant will sit on the fabric, it would not hold up to the extra stress.

    • @julietmurphy8637
      @julietmurphy8637 3 роки тому +2

      The seat fabric goes under the seat and is stapled to the bottom, then the welt/piping is attached to the underside so all the raw edges are hidden underneath the seat when you attach it to the frame. You can add utility fabric to hide the underside for a clean finish even if the chair is tipped over.

      @@julietmurphy8637, thank you for answering. My project is a hand-carved teak chair with a carved wood border along the lower edges of the seat between each of the carved legs, so I can't wrap the fabric around and staple to the bottom. This looks like it would work perfectly for getting the fabric to fit against the wood frame all along the back of the chair (both back as shown in this video and front, which also has a wood border), but I'm still looking for solutions to bring the upholstery up to the edge of the wood around the entire bottom edge of the chair. I'd love to hear ideas.

      @@musapedestris1592 You'd be making the seat separate from the chair using a plywood base, then attaching it to the chair frame from underneath.
