You have to watch that Peter Jones, he's too clever. He's the smartest out of all the Dragons and he plays them like a grand piano. He often pretends not to be interested in a business that someone on their is presenting and because he knows the others respect his opinions, they will be likely to declare themselves out because of Peter's lack of interest but then when they're all out, he suddenly switches and starts talking positively about the business and then makes an offer. Yeah, right Peter, you're a ruddy sly one but I like it. I can why he is where he is 😃

@@Josh-wu7kzThe DaVinci machine has been in use for a long time and there's actually incredibly good results with it, very blatantly good results. It allows for extreme precision. I've been in OR where a surgeon was on them when I was a student on rotations.
But the surgeon is still in the operating room at the time and can scrub in for laparoscopic approach if needed.
Having said that it's a machine that has been around for a long time with many many millions of dollars of investment into its technology.
It's an incredible expenditure for any hospital to have even one of these machines.
But these can have significant return on investment because you can perform surgeries with them that give patients much better outcomes in terms of pain etc. At a huge cost.
There would be no return on investment if a bed side robot was implemented. Never mind the extreme cost it would take to implement the machine to the precision that machines like the DaVinci surgical machine are seen to have.

Steven says he doesn't want to buy into the idea that a robot will serve his grandad his meal in the future. I think it's highly likely that is the way its going because 1. People do not want to work in care and it is very difficult to find high quality care staff when the wages are so low. 2. The younger generations are not having kids so this will compound the issue when they get older.
The working class no longer want to take the 'unskilled' jobs so we are going to have to find solutions, we can't just rely on open border immigration to plug the gap like we have been doing. Robotic care in the future is highly likely based on these trends.

@Redacted until robots have sufficient AI to be able to make important decisions on the fly and have the ability to see and react to whatever it is they are working on, humans will still be needed. You wouldn't want a robot to be performing surgery on you and suddenly one of your arteries gets nicked and blood starts spewing everywhere and now the robot has to change priorities and handle that issue instead of the original surgery they were programmed to perform.
This allows the human to at least not have to be present at the location where the work is being performed. Maybe the specialist you need for the particular surgery you need lives in Switzerland. You could fly out there, or he could just do it remotely.

@@redacted7634 I think that the entrepreneur's explanation was lacking. If it is used for providing care in one's home, it will cut down dramatically on travel time and the carer would be able to administer to several patients/elderly in the time it takes to move by car from one home to another. Especially in rural areas. That was the advantage that I could see. I'm still not convinced that a robot in the home operated remotely could actually perform sufficient tasks however.

We haven't got to the stage where every facet of human life is going to be replaced by some robot far from it. So stop with the FOMO. The people like to think big plans and it not going to happen in the next decade.

I dont see the point. If a human still has to sit there and control it, whats the point of having the robot? Why doesnt the human controller just do the job? Especially jobs where human connection is important, or at least preferred, like care homes. I imagine some guy sat in his bedroom while the robot in the bar pours a customer a drink. This is moving towards a lazier and isolated society, where people dont need to leave the house cause they can do everything from home. Going to be like wall-e in no time.
While i can see the advantage to something like a difficult surgery that requires an expert from a different country, i cannot understand the need to replace things like bartenders and care home workers. These jobs do not need specialists, so why do they need remote-controlled robots? Surely there are enough humans locally to fill these kind of jobs?
