It was this game that began to make me a baseball fan! I caught it when there was a show on Prime Ticket in L.A. hosted by Steve Garvey titled “Baseball’s Greatest Games” (I initially caught glimpses of this World Series on the sports news months after it passed) and then discovered the tv show that replayed this game, next week they replayed game 7 and you better believe it I had to watch! soon after I was glued to my tv Saturday nights to watch classic games; I made a big event out of it, cooking myself a bunch of my favorite foods and closing my bedroom door and turning the tv way up! My mom would knock and ask me to turn down the volume, my response: I am watching the World Series! I began my journey to baseball fandom back then; I was about 16

Much better to see old classic games like this than to watch today’s games even though you already know the outcome.

Puckett, told Chili Davis that he planned to bunt for a base hit, to which Davis responded, "Bunt my ass. Hit it out and let's go home". Good advice Chili !

I was 8 years old and obviously a huge twins and Kirby fan. Our family's TV broke the day before this game so we went to my grandma's house to watch it. We had to leave after the 9th inning because it was getting late for me and my little sisters. My dad continued listening on the radio and after Kirby hit the home run, he came up to my room to wake me up. I remember listening to nothing but loud cheering for at least 5 minutes. John Gordon and Herb Carneal knew to just sit back and let the listeners take everything in.

Buck had a few good calls during this series, but most of the important ones were awkward stumbles and confused miscalls. McCarver understands baseball well and explained many things well, but went on and on about the same points too often. Buck was more of a radio announcer than a TV announcer and it showed here. He never got out of radio mode. And McCarver has to try too hard to do contrast. Have you watched any games on ABC in the ‘80’s though, when McCarver was teamed with Al Michaels and Jim Palmer? That was a well-balanced crew with chemistry coming out their ears. You could tell those guys were friends outside the booth and that makes a huge difference.
