Merry Christmas and thanks for "Following Along"! 🎅🎄✌
Great to see the team up with Jarl! We watched your adventure instead of football.😊
Thanks -- it was great hiking with him for the a few days. Hope you didn't miss anything too exciting in the football game! 😉✌
So glad your knee is healing well, Jamal! I am looking forward to this series...Capitol Reef is such an underrated park. You always inspire me to go back and hike Utah every year!
Thanks! Yeah, it's a great park -- but one I hadn't backpacked much in until 2022 (well, the northern part anyway.) Thanks again for watching and the comment. 🌞✌
Merry Christmas Jamal.
Yes, the walls are on fire. Glorious views and all the beautiful stars. I am glad your knee is holding up and that you found water to continue on to show us the Arches.
Thanks, Beat! Glad you enjoyed the views. The knee is still far from 100%, but better. TBD how it's gonna turn out. 😬 Happy New Year! 🌞🎉
It was a nice evening to watch your hike, and have an appearance of Jarl. I can’t wait to take a trip back to Utah on my “new” knees. The beauty of that area, and the realization that we were on the top of the Goosenecks 4 years ago, made me go back to look at my pictures! Thank you for sharing your trip.
Thanks -- glad you enjoyed the video and it brought back good memories. Best of luck getting back out there!. Cheers! 🌞✌
Feliz año nuevo mi amigo! It’s wonderful to see you along with Jarl out in the canyons again. It’s good to see that knee is working well for you.✌️
Thanks! Happy New Year to you as well. Happy Trails in 2025! 💛✌
Aaah great video! Thank you for another great episode. I only been to Capital Reef for a few hikes... One of them was up to Navajo Knob. Glad the knee is better and you can enjoy your spectacular adventures!
Thanks! Capitol Reef is a great park with so many areas to explore (both on trail and backcountry.) The knee is still not 100%, but I'm hoping it's going to get better with time. 🤞 Thanks again for watching.
Spring Canyon is just awesome. A Great Adventure. Thanks for sharing!😀👍
I agree! Thanks for watching and the comment. Cheers! 🌞✌
Flew over this area in September in my vintage 1940s aeroplane; very stunning from the air (and I have also visited & canyoneered in Capitol Reef NP several times before that).
Lovely watching (as always 😀) AGAIN here on Boxing Day in UK.
That would be so awesome. I would love to see all these canyons (and much of southern Utah) from the air. Thanks again for watching and hope your Boxing Day was good. Cheers! 🌞✌
Love that park. Thanks for going to the more obscure, hard to reach parts. I'm getting too old to hike the really tough trails with big water carries.
Yep -- it's a great area with plenty of options for exploration. Thanks for watching and the comment. 🌞✌
Sulfur creek is one of our favorite hikes and in our favorite NP too. It is way cool seeing you doin stuff that we have done. Fantastic video sir.
Thanks so much. It's hard to believe, but this was actually my first doing doing Sulphur Creek despite it being on "my list" for forever it seems. Thanks for watching and the comment! 🌞✌
Another great adventure! So grateful to tag along 😉!
Hoping your Christmas was wonderful and wishing you a very Happy New Year!🎉
Thanks so much -- and same for you. 🎅✌🎉
Another wonderful Trip, thanks for Sharing 👍
Greetings from Germany
Martin
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed and as always... thanks for watching! BTW... I think there might be German dubbing on this video now. I haven't tested it -- but UA-cam is now automatically doing AI dubbing in multiple languages (with a Creator's permission.) Curious to see/hear how it works. Cheers! 🌞✌
Yet another great story Jamal. It's always so relaxing to follow your journey. Happy Christmas and a healthy New Year for more of the same please.
Thanks so much. I definitely hope to deliver with more in 2025! 🎅✌
What a Christmas treat - a Jamal video!
Thanks -- that's nice to hear. I appreciate you for watching and the comment. 🎅✌
I’m re-watching. It is so much beauty in Utah to take in. We got old and we missed Utah very much. We decided to buy small place in Moab and spend winters here. It’s our 14th.
Thanks! Sure that's a pretty great place to spend one's winters. 🌞✌
Merry Christmas! Loved the Sierra trip, but excited to see you back in red rock country!😊
Thanks! Yes, even if it was a relatively short trip -- it felt great to be back among the red rocks. Thanks for watching and the comment! 🎅✌
Very little water and no taco stand but we always come back to Utah to hike. Thanks.
Yeah... it was a much different hike, but... I still love the red rocks of canyon country! Thanks again for watching and the comment. 🌞✌
Hi from the UK! So glad to have found this fantastic channel. We've been visiting Utah and Arizona since around 2008; we initially did the 'tourist' thing of visiting the National Parks, but these days we tend to try and explore more off the beaten track as the NP's are so crowded now. Nothing as adventurous as this of course, but we've come to love being out in the silent solitude of areas like this. We're visiting again this year in May/June for 3 weeks and can't wait!
Hope your knee's feeling better :)
Awesome -- glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for sharing your experience. Best of luck on your trip this year. Cheers! 🌞✌
Merry Christmas to you and yours Jamal! Thanks for getting us out on the trail!
Thanks so much -- very appreciated. 🎅✌
Awesome stuff, that camera is really cool, thanks for the trip Jamal and merry Christmas!
Thanks, Jarl! Again so awesome to sync up with you for part of this adventure! Gotta do it again in the future. 🌞👍
@@Acrossutah Yes would love that very much!
I spent most of the summer hanging out at Capitol Reef and environs. The weather was awesome and there are so many beautiful places to explore. Glad to see you back in Utah! Happy Holidays!
Yep -- such a great area with so many cool places to explore. Happy Holidays to you as well. Cheers! 🌞✌
Merry Christmas to you and once again, i really love your video work and commentary.. Thank you so much for putting in all the work, i hiking, and i editing.. so very good...
Thanks so much -- very appreciated. ✌🎅
Watching this video was a great Xmas gift!
Thanks Jamal.
That's awesome -- thanks for the comment. 🎅✌
FYI, there is a bypass trail around that first waterfall.
@@johnnewkirk5413 Yes, thanks! I actually meant to make an on-screen note about that. At the time we thought there may have been but decided to try the climb before backtracking. Then we saw the bypass re-entering on top. Thanks for watching. ✌️
Merry Christmas Jamal. Great to be back in Utah.
Thanks -- yes, it felt good to be back among the red rocks! 🎅✌
@@Acrossutahyeah , it’s a joy to be back for winter.
No way! Jarl! I always loved his videos, and his collaborations with Joey. Well, Jamal, thanks again for sharing. You look like your knee is better. Merry Christmas from Arizona.
Yep -- it was so cool to sync up with him (we actually used to live close to one another!) The knee is better -- but still not 100% unfortunately. Thanks again for watching and the comment. 🎅✌
Another great video! Thanks Jamal! It's nice to see Jarl out of the van :) Merry Christmas!
Thanks so much! It was great to sync up with Jarl and I'm definitely envious of that van of his! Cheers! 🌞✌
Jarl nos compartió su aventura contigo. Tienen buena condición y actitud para realizar tales aventuras. Feliz Navidad y Año Nuevo 2025 de salud y alegría.
Thanks -- it was great to team up with Jarl for part of this adventure. Happy New Year to you as well! 🌞✌
Merry Christmas, and what a lovely gift!
Thanks -- so nice of you to say! 🎅✌
Jajaja... Qué linda danza con todo y mochila de Jarl!😂🤣🥰😂
Thanks for the memories Jamal. Locally, the first arch you went by is known as Cowboy Arch, from the pioneer pictograph carved on it. I always check the little bridge you passed for water, and often find it dry, as you did. I'm looking forward to the next day to see what your route is off of the ridge, back down into Upper Spring Canyon, turning the route into a loop, if that's what you do. I've never figured out how to do that.
Awesome -- thanks so much for that info. I was calling it "1872 Arch" in my notes, but I'll update accordingly. Spoiler Alert for part 2 -- I was indeed hoping to make a loop with upper Spring Canyon via one of a few weaknesses farther up or even going the loooong way around the upper branches if needed, but after moving so slowly and the lack of water I decided to more or less backtrack and descend back into Spring Cyn via the same route. Thanks for watching and sharing your experience. Cheers! 🌞✌
Love this place. You should check out the Eagle Caps in Oregon sometime. It's often overlooked but there are a lot of secret lands in there. It's my home base and often feels like my own private little Glacier National Park. If you stay away from the popular trails a lot of the wilderness trails are so unused they basically revert to game trails
Thanks! And also thanks for the tip -- I had to look up Eagle Caps and it does look amazing. I've been through different parts of Oregon a few times, but never there and I've never done any backpacking there. Someday hopefully! Thanks for watching! 🌞✌
Hey Jamal thanks and Merry Christmas
Thank you! 🎄🎅
Muy, muy riesgoso!
Thanks for watching! 🌞✌
Merry Christmas Awesome Video
Thank you! 🎅✌
Capitol Reef is one of my favorite parks. I can’t believe it was almost 90 degrees! Yikes!
Yeah, I love it too even though I haven't done a bunch of backpacking in the "upper" section. It really was quite warm on this hike -- not what I had expected for early October! Thanks for watching and the comment. 🌞✌
Happpy Christmas Jamal
Thanks so much! 🎅✌
Merry Christmas!
Thanks! 🎅✌
MERRY CHRISTMAS JAMAL
Thanks for watching and the comment! ✌🎅
Love it that you are back in Utah! It looks like you started your hike at the visitor center and hiked toward Chimney Rock. Most do the Sulfur Creek hike in reverse and end up at the visitor center. When you went up on the Mesa and traveled east did you get close to the back side of Hickman Bridge and come in from the west?
Yeah -- I'd heard that most people go down Sulphur Creek, but in a way I actually like going up routes like this as I think the rapids/waterfalls are more scenic and the climbs a tad bit easier. You are 100% right re: what I PLANNED on doing, however I didn't end up going to Hickman directly but I'll explain that all in part two. Thanks again for "following along". Cheers! 🌞✌
What type of boots are best when you are in and out of water?
So I almost always wear my regular boots, unless it's just short crossing. For shorter water hikes I used to carry neoprene socks, but I rarely do that anymore and just make do with two pairs of my regular/wool socks and make sure to alternate each day. On this particular hike though I had an older pair of boots for the first day up Sulphur Creek and then my new pair which are more lightweight in a cache at Chimney Rock TH. Thanks for watching and the questions. Cheers! 🌞✌
Have you ever thought about selling some of your still photos?
Thanks -- I take that as a big compliment! BUT... the answer is not really. I have licensed a few random shots (and clips), but it's not my focus. I am proud of my photos (and video), but to take that all to the next level and be truly "professional" would likely require much more work/dedication and distract from my main goal of enjoying the hikes I do. Thanks for watching and the comment. 🌞✌
30:15 lol that trend annoys me so much
Haha -- yep! I was hoping that at least a few people would agree with me. But... maybe I'm just jealous because those videos get MILLIONS of views. Thanks for watching and the comment! 🌞✌
