Welcome to a new Tig Welding video in my series, where in this episode, you can hang with me as I give a rundown of how I set my gear up for getting a perfect weld, and how you can do it using whatever machine you've got at your shop as well. We take a break from doing Tig Welding Art, but go over the hugely important stuff of how to set up your rig properly, and some common things to troubleshoot when doing so. Don't worry, back to the Welding Art next week.
I also show you, another super top secret...super secret... of how I spiff my finished welds up to make them look really shiny. (LINK TO THE POLISH I USE HERE)

I bought a Syncrowave 250 20 years ago to weld aluminum. All I ever have been able to do with it is make nice steel welds. My aluminum welding has been nothing but an exercise in frustration and failure. Until now! Your videos have been the magic bullet to getting things set up and cleaned up properly. I still suck but I`m now moving forward each day and feel like things are now coming together. Thank you!

If anyone is interested in gas flow look up the difference between turbulent flow and laminar flow; gas lenses and cups help create laminar flow (w/o weld spatter on the inside of the cup) where as conventional collet bodies and cups (and when weld spatter is present on the inside of the cup) have a more turbulent flow. Thank you so much for making this video Dusty!

Definitely agree on the keep the tungsten clean point. I usually sharpen a bunch so it’s easy to just slap a fresh one in the moment the arc starts to misbehave. Gas lens on aluminum though.. it’s pretty much the only metal I never use a lens for.

Also: Do you use 1/8” lanth mostly? I do. Even on thin aluminum It keeps me from sharpening and doesn’t erode as quickly like thinner 3/16”. It’s a really good tip !
I didn’t think would have much impact on my welding but boy was I wrong.

I love your channel. The background music is annoying when I am trying to listen to your thoughts and instruction, but will continue to listen. Nice content.

Your timing is fantastic. I've got a bit more practice with my powertig to go before I get dimes that uniform.

Thank you so much! That's great- it'll come soon I bet. It's kind of one of those things, that after a certain amount of practice, things kind of just "click." Then after that it's usually just a matter of keeping things going and learning all the little nuances of heat/filler rod balance, and then all the other fun variables. Let me know how it's going!
      Cheers!

Thanks for the video Rusty! I bought the same machine, could you tell me what settings you put it on to make the ball?

Very nice bead young man! Obviously you have much practice at this. You make me want to start TIG welding again 😎👍
Your machine seems to weld very nice and smooth, very nice super clean precise edits to your video as well. I can tell you’re really passionate and professional about everything you do.
Question: About how much does this machine retail for? You are using a pedal correct?
Thanks for your video, very cool, you ROCK!. ✌️😎👍

Hey man, do you by any chance have any videos on the titanium tig200? I absolutely love your videos. By the way, you've helped me a hell of a lot

Just found you channel, SUBSCRIBED! Really appreciate you clear narration and video. And I was interested to see your use of an ADF attached to a phone to shoot the welding closeups. Still too much contrast to see the puddle clearly, but MUCH BETTER than what I've seen on many other welding videos. Thinking about learning to weld, and definitely would like to be able to weld aluminum eventually. So now I'm doing my homework to decide which welder to buy and am finding video like this that provide great instruction and tips. I'm not sure how long it would take to be able to make use of this videos information, but at least I'll have it for when I'm ready!
I didn't find the music super distracting, my suggestion would be to lower the music volume more relative to the narration so it fades into the background during voice-over segments.

Amazing! I’m happy you dig the vid! I’ve got quite a few now to provide some better breakdowns of specific things. This was just one generic vid (with the music mixed too loud I’ll admit) that got picked up, and am happy to see people who enjoy it! Please hit me up on IG with any questions at all!
      Cheers my friend

Dude, looks like you've been welding a long time, that was a very helpful video. When you show the A/C balance being too positive, the arc cone(?) looks like it's dancing all over the place even before the tungsten ball starts fluttering. Is that because the arc distance is too large, or is that also a side effect of positive bias? That is the number one thing I'm contending with right now, and I can't seem to nail it.

Do you have any tips or tricks on how to tig weld aluminum on a vertical surface? Awesome videos by the way!
