Tip for new players: Don't use your AI to attack if you are at a disadvantage. It will lead to high casualties, resulting in low morale and military support. What I recommend is check your artillery and manually build a line of defense with infantry and tanks up front and artillery in the back. Then when enemy units come in, focus your artillery on them from a safe spot. Use your aircraft wisely. If you are at a massive disadvantage, such as the US declaring war on Mexico, you are in for a long campaign that is potentially survivable. What you need to do is trade land and utilize your recon. Most armies flood in from roads/railways but as soon as they capture your territory, those hexes have no supply. So when the units come in, guide them in and then quickly cut them off. Directly engaging the enemy will be difficult unless they have no fuel/equipment, making them sitting ducks. The AI focuses on a few things: It creates hotspots, focusing on your major cities. This guides the AI regardless. And your own units, which will automatically send the AI to send it's own to counter. I also recommend doing the obvious such as holding chokepoints, defensive terrain, and tactically retreating. There are some fights you just cant win though and so I recommend just going to a previous save and seeing what you can do to avoid losing.
Yes, the most effective use of your military is to micro it yourself and use stacks in my experience. However, this can be quite time consuming for some players, hence the video.
For new players who are playing offensive against an enemy country: I put high priority on roads and railways with medium size and medium on facilities with heavy size. Capitols or very large cities I put very heavy. Eventually when my units get close to these cities I put the priority on high. On normal farmland, I put the priority on medium with medium size. All are offensive attack hotspots so it minimizing my units defending the hotspot. I make sure to use an autoclicker to delete these hotspots. As Bolivia in 1936, I conquered half of the world by 1943. The only country I micro'ed against was Chile.
