Last I saw Billy was in a cafe in a food co-op in Northern Michigan playing to a crowd of about 3. That was around 2014. This kid is soaring these days!! Hard to believe, really. I bet Jerry’s smiling at Billy’s interpretations of his songs. Billy’s only going to get better, and I’m glad to be along for the ride.
I can relate. I saw him at a small bluegrass festival in Wisconsin in 2016. Nobody knew who he was. Now he has been voted bluegrass entertainer of the year.
I was there that night, and I can say truly it felt like Jerry and Bob were on that stage at some point. The chemistry and harmonies were so beautiful and moving. This is a historic night.
@@northshorenolan it was a surprise to me, so I can’t really speak for everyone else. As a man I can say that I shed a few tears in that moment, realizing that a part of my life had been completed.
Good they should play together with Bobby and his friends and family members with love from Patti Cornell. Been together from the start at UVM fildhouse Love from early years
After reading through the comments, I would like to say that in my very insignificant opinion, Billy should not try and do anything that Jerry did. Billy is his own musician and this is not some DSO wanna be band (as much as I enjoy DSO). Jerry is as relevant to this music as say the Crickets were when the Dead would bust into a raucous Not Fade Away. Which is to say, extremely relevant (as is Hunter) but these guys are their own band and for that moment it is their song to interpret as they choose. Weirs style has really evolved and I love it. I first saw him play in Winterland in San Francisco in the 70's, and lost count from there. He has become a true master and I do not consider him (nor does he consider himself because I have heard him say it many times) a rhythm guitarist. He fills space and dances in and out of the melody like a Jazz pianist which has been on his mind all along which I have also heard him say. Billy strings and band just play their game, and Weir comes in and out with that totally unique guitar style I have never seen elsewhere. He plays much less now than he used to. 1 note for every two he played maybe 30 years ago? And of course he likes Billy. For a cranky guy who doesn't think much of many people Bob knows good music. I get tired of people comparing these (any, unless its a DSO but comparing that is silly.) gigs to the Dead or Jerry in any way. Jerry is gone. What is the "Grateful Dead" anyway? Some would say that they went downhill or at least were never the same (which they weren't) after Pig. Some would say that Constanten was their best keyboard player with his subtle and delicate interweaving and that post 72 they were never the same. Which they were not. (St. Stephen, 69 Filllmore West to make my point) Some would say that after about 85 Jerry was almost impossible to watch much of the time because of his addictions ( I would be tempted to agree with that). Some would say that Touch of Grey was a disaster (which I agree because I am selfish but I would assume the band would not agree at all because they burned through money like water) Jerry was heavily influenced by many that came before him and were gone by the time he really got going. As are all great musicians and really anyone who plays music. The music will always live. It just moves from one body and one interpretation to the next. Enjoy it, or don't. There is one thing I do know for sure, that Weir doesn't give a fuck what any of us think and never has.
Not sure the tunes are, or were, ever “ruined”. Perhaps the interpretation doesn’t suit you… but the tunes invariably, are the tunes. Dig what you like and don’t listen to the ones you don’t… simple! 🤟🏼

It seems like Bobby genuinely likes Billy. They might not have the Jerry Bobby chemistry yet, but if they keep playing together... Who knows???

If he didn't like him he wouldn't be on stage. Lol
@@tannerbell4402 Did everyone know Bob was in the house or was it a surprise?

Damn I thought that was Jerry. Bobby took 25 more years to look like him lol
Weir may be better served playing an acoustic. Great group!

When was this??

I knew all along it was Meyer that was ruining the Dead tunes!! Dump Meyer and bring back JK!! Dead and Co suck!!
