Just thought I would clear up the "Exit 13 off the 25" segment. In New Mexico, and in many places across the US, exit numbers were just ordered and not based off of the mile marker like they are today. This was changing in New Mexico specifically right around the show's release. It is likely that Victor was referring to the old system which is why it seems like it is so far away when in reality it was probably a 20-30 minute drive away.
I think it more so shows that projects this big that are under budgets and time constraints, just do not allow nothing to go wrong. There's a ridiculous amount of variables to account for and if you're short on time you might have to say "fuck it" and take some kind of short cut that roughens the edges of your project a little bit. Literally so many people work on these that I'd wager to say it's near impossible for something to be hours long and have no technical or story problems.
Well at times Mike also uses Victor (or Tyrus who had yet to appear) as a proxy, like when he wanted to warn Gus about the twins breaking into Walt’s house. So the last “who knows a guy” isnt a complete lie even if it’s said by precaution.
@@Erowaxthank you. I’ve been thinking this for a long time, specifically the scene you’re referring to with Mike calling Victor who told Gus. I thinks it’s pretty clear that early one Mike wasn’t supposed to have as big of a role as he ended up having.
My personal theory for the extra guy in Saul’s “I know a guy” line is that Saul wasn’t aware at this point that Mike was Gus’ lead man. After travelling through the desert with Mike in ‘Bagman’ Saul met Tyrus and Victor. Saul may have assumed from here on that Mike knew Tyrus/Victor who knew Gus.
I’m sure at the time they meant Victor, although there’s that flashback in BCS where Saul asks Mike what “he who shall not be named” thinks about Walt. To me that implied that Saul knew that Mike knew Gus directly. But I suppose he could think he’s getting his info through Victor! 🤷
lol thank you so much for pointing out how weirdly intense the woman at 4:29 is. even apart from skyler's singing, that one specific extra actress's incredibly strange performance always made the scene feel even more offputting for me.
I always liked her, and the mystery behind their family of origin that as angry as Skylar was at Marie, she still took the hit for her--pretending labor, rather than turning her in for shoplifting the infamous tiara.. But wouldn’t let her get away without acknowledging wrong doing. She still protected Ted, it protected her too, but seeing how spoiled he was to have heated bathroom floors and getting a new car over paying the taxes, took some of the protective quality away, it’s still there for Hank, so much so she joins in to help her BIL and sister, going back to Walter. I never understood people not liking her.
a notable Plot Point I think you missed was Ted cooking the books. It returns in season 4 and leads to Ted’s demise and Skylar’s guilt in the beginning of season 5.
And also is the reason that Walt isn't able to go to the vacuum guy when Gus threatens him, as Skylar gave their money to Ted. So Ted's decision to cook the books inadvertently changed the meth industry forever.

As soon as I saw the thumbnail I knew what was up lmao. To be honest, I don't even remember watching the birthday scene, I didn't even realize it existed until people called it the worst scene of the show. Maybe I blanked out during that part due to how bad it was and then my memory did a good job making me forget the experience. The introduction of Gus is awesome, Gus responding to Walt out of annoyance is another example of how close he was to avoiding his demise. If he kept his mouth shut and continued with the bit, or if he didn't go to kill Hector himself, he'd be ok. I like to imagine that the reason that the drinks aren't labeled is because Los Pollos employees are so extreme they memorize what each drink is and where to dispense it at lmao. Well said! It seems like Gus is not actually a "cautious man" considering he had these complete unknowns meet at one of his restaurants with him actually being there! And yes, having the employees memorize drink locations does seem like a very Gus thing to do.
Such a good video! It's weird to see mistakes like a crew member in-shot in a show with such an attention to detail. Do you think it's to do with the show being so early into its run? I wouldn't expect the same to slide in, say, season 4.
Thank you! It is surprising at times, but I’m also so surprised when I hear about how fast the shooting schedules are. Sometimes it feels like I spend more time on one of these videos than they had for shooting the episode! 😂 So perhaps the most attention to detail shows up in the writing, for which they have a lot more time.

I think the cancer doctor similarity between BB and Sopranos is really interesting, it's obvious on the surface that he's playing essentially the same character, but he's also playing a cancer doctor for a bald, white character with glasses who is famously insecure.
im not sure if jesse was prone to an overdose but at 9:43 walt leaving jesse not on his side might've almost killed him if he did overdose also idk how the drug works so this is my speculation
0:45 You can see in later shot that the kid is standing and the gun is level. The placement of the wound is fine from kid's and gun's perspective. Only looks low because of the camera looking so much up.
Jesse is on the same side of the bed where Jane later dies, this time Walt interacts with the person there, later he does not I admit that confused me on my first rewatch as I expected Jane to choke here lol
Has any one on the writing team or any of the actors thought "Hey, maybe we should not have Skyler doing the Marylin Monroe version of happy birthday"?
The wound on Combo makes sense, given that its a handgun being shot by an inexperienced kid, even at that close a distance it would not be weird if he had missed every shot. Gun may not have cycled second shot due to kid limp -wristing the slide as well.
Is crazy because they give him one point two million for thirty eight pounds. But later when they're working for him. There making 200 pounds a week and only 3,000,000 for 3 months. So they are technically giving them way more money than they usely do for this.
9:08 thats EIGHT times more than the time he was given, which means he'd have to go 8 times faster than the speed limit. isnt that impossible? they couldve just given a closer town for credibility
Commenter @FallenImpact cleared this up for me! They apparently changed the exit numbering right around the show's release! So Victor must have been referring to the old system!

8:48 that's because lyle was governing gus' meth empire from the shadows so as to not draw attention. If lyle was just "manager" everyone would know "he's the boss" which would draw attention.
Aha!
"Shot at and missed, shit on and hit" was one of my Mama's stock phrases. Thanks for a trip down memory lane 😁
Haha, awesome! You’re welcome!
8:47 So he is an actual assistant manager and not just the assistant to the manager (unlike dwight)
Apparently!
Hello! New subscriber 😊 thank you for your videos!!
Re emojis, has a purple hand been suggested yet? Purple for Marie (obvs) and the hand referencing her kleptomania (5 finger discount).
Hey, welcome!! Thanks so much! Nobody has suggested that. That’s very creative and useful! I’ll add it to my list, as I can only add a new one every ~10 members. I’m imagining a purple version of 👋
I love this series! And you really get more depth when you have watched Better Call Saul!
It is great to rewatch after Better Call Saul!
I think the cancer doctor similarity between BB and Sopranos is really interesting, it's obvious on the surface that he's playing essentially the same character, but he's also playing a cancer doctor for a bald, white character with glasses who is famously insecure.
😂 Good point!
The actor is also in Raising Arizona... O_O Amazing Movie :O
BABE WAKE UP NEW BREAKING BAD HIDDEN DETAILS VID DROPPED!!!!!!! 🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣
Thanks and good morning, Ariel!
the happy birthday Ted segment was an homage to the Sopranos episode
Good point!
0:39 You can see Combo’s blood on his shirt below his hand right before the shot is fired
Yeah, I'm so sad I missed that one!!
you cant ustilise film lights outside let alone one with soft box, it's a diffuser scrim kite in his reflection
Oh, thanks! I don’t know the proper terminology!
This episode means circle of life: Combo Dies, Holly is born. Hmm
So Combo's spirit lives on in a new vessel...
Maybe
im not sure if jesse was prone to an overdose but at 9:43 walt leaving jesse not on his side might've almost killed him if he did overdose
also idk how the drug works so this is my speculation
Ah, I think you’re right! Good point!
@@betterwatchtv oh yeah congrats on 7k i think i saw u at 6.8k yesterday, glad you're growing quickly
Thanks!! Yeah, this past week the channel has been growing faster than ever!
Saul -> Mike -> Victor/Tyrus -> Gus
That’s how I’ve always thought of it.
Yeah, I ended up mentioning that in the next video. Although more about “I called a guy who called a guy.”
0:45 You can see in later shot that the kid is standing and the gun is level. The placement of the wound is fine from kid's and gun's perspective. Only looks low because of the camera looking so much up.
I see, thanks! I did miss a better detail anyway that there’s a frame where you can see the blood on his shirt before the gun is fired!
I respect that Combo didn’t draw his gun on the kid, even to try and save himself by killing the kid
Good point!
surprised you didn't mention how the prop pistol used to kill combo is also from the sopranos
Oh! I missed that!
8:08 Jesse's being lifted with a forklift
Oh, maybe I said the wrong piece of equipment. Thanks!
Jesse is on the same side of the bed where Jane later dies, this time Walt interacts with the person there, later he does not
I admit that confused me on my first rewatch as I expected Jane to choke here lol
Funny!
They would’ve changed the sign if it’s the same one that was burned down
It was a different branch! (Los Lunas, I think.)
Has any one on the writing team or any of the actors thought "Hey, maybe we should not have Skyler doing the Marylin Monroe version of happy birthday"?
Haha, good question!
Hot take: the Skyler scene is hilarious
Certainly Maggie Fine’s role is hilarious!
Who forgets Gustavo's first episode?
True. I just wonder how many people would know it's "Mandala" off the top of their head!
@@betterwatchtv you're not wrong.. I have to second gues myself of the title sometimes 😅 seems to early on in the show
Yeah, there are probably only a few obvious ones in this season.... Peekaboo, Better Call Saul, 4 Days Out, ABQ.
I do every single time. I only ever remember it as 'somewhere near the end of series 2'
Anna Gunne played Skyler so well I despised her.
She really did!
The wound on Combo makes sense, given that its a handgun being shot by an inexperienced kid, even at that close a distance it would not be weird if he had missed every shot. Gun may not have cycled second shot due to kid limp -wristing the slide as well.
That’s a good point! Thanks!
Fun fact, this video’s most commonly skipped section is the Ted happy birthday scene
Hahahahaha
This Episode really stressed me out as a teenager, It was weird
Oh! Was it the rushing and drama at the end with Walt or something else?
probably the happy birthday scene @@betterwatchtv ☠
@@Arthur-gu7eu
Of course! The discussions are the best part of posting UA-cam videos! I learn a lot and get great ideas from people like you. Thanks for being here!
Margaret, Ted's unpleasant receptionist, wasn't invited to the Birthday bash?
Wow, really!? Maybe she was sick that day! Or maybe the receptionist never gets to join because someone needs to be on duty!
Is crazy because they give him one point two million for thirty eight pounds. But later when they're working for him. There making 200 pounds a week and only 3,000,000 for 3 months. So they are technically giving them way more money than they usely do for this.
Yeah, maybe in part because then Gus is supplying all the materials and equipment?
Really memorable episode for me. Especially the happy birthday scene but thats not a good thing.
😂
When Combo gets shot you can see "GUZ" on his cup.. maybe a reference to this being the first episode we meet Gus? Idk i could be reaching lol
Ha! That’s interesting! Knowing Breaking Bad, that could very much be intentional!
That Skyler scene is the only time I skipped forward, I couldn’t bare to see it all the way.
I was dreading it, but after watching it several times in the process of editing this video, I'm now immune to it!
I always took the guy who knew a guy to be retrofitted to be he knows Mike who knows Gus…who knows lalo (is he still alive)
Oh, that’s an interesting thought. For this conversation about needing a distributor, I would think Gus is the final guy! 🤷
@@betterwatchtv that’s the meth world, you have to remember Saul doesn’t even really know who Gus is or what he’s about, he only knows he’s the one who saved Kim and him that fateful night
@@mrpuddingpop1 The one conversation he had with Mike in BCS made me think he knows more, but maybe not!
you can see the bloodied gunshot wound on combo's shirt is already there before the kid shoots him for 2 frames at 0:39
additionally, the kid uses a no-gun, which is not subtle at all haha
Yeah, I'm mad I missed that! Although the gun part is new to me... How can you tell? 🙂
@@betterwatchtv ISS non-guns are really not that hard to tell apart once you get one good look at them the one Tomas is using in particular is a model that isnt actually based off any real life pistol, and its exceptionally blocky, sort of fake looking in general and has no moving parts, so its exceptionally easy to tell, youd think he would be using a toy-gun otherwise, which at that point he kind of is!
@@betterwatchtv also, Internet Movie Firearms Database is a great resource for firearm identification in media, do check that out! even contains extra BTS info sometimes!
cheers!
Cool, thanks!
originally i think mike was meant to be working for victor who works for gus but because mike was so popular they made him gus' number 2
Oh, that could be!
i don't know man, combo and all...
😆
6:24 I still haven't found the answer why Gus looked away at this moment. Anyone with a hint?
I think he was just checking if any employees could hear him!
Or maybe hear what Walt could be saying?
🤷♂️ I think it was for employees because he knew he was going to reveal the truth (even though he still kept up the facade immediately after)!
8:42
I’ma give my boy Lyle some justice: Cynthia isn’t the manager. She is “the manager on duty.” C’mon, Mr. Fring would never do Lyle dirty like that!
Haha! Well he needs a more impressive name tag, then!
2:05 whenever I hear this line I think of Beat Rice's edit where Saul is like "You two suck so, give up"
Ha! Thanks for becoming a member, by the way!
@betterwatchtv i just had to become a member your content is just too well made! I really appreciate the time and effort that goes into these videos
Thanks so much! 🙏
6th month member got me
This is where the tradition started!
I'm on my fourth rewatch of Breaking Bad and I really have to thank you for pointing out everything I missed 😂
Nice! Thanks!!
Speaking of Sopranos connections, both shows have a notoriously awkward scene where a character sings "Happy Birthday Mr. President"
bro really said he doesnt blame a woman who is pregnant singing Happy bday Marylin Monroe fashion to her boss. wtf do you mean maaan lmaoo
He pressured her very hard!
OMG, so many plot holes. worst show ever :)
Haha, I sometimes feel like “Adam Ruins Everything.” Still an all-time great show!
"worst show ever, I couldn't get past just one episode, nothing made sense"
{( Episode watched: s3e5
I agree. Dexter needs to get the recognition it deserves for being the actual best series of all time.
@@sashimi879don't you get that he's joking?
@@096AfterASuccessfulMeal Dexter is just better. Cry about it.
The gun tomas uses to kill Combo is the same gun used by Vito to kill Jackie Junior Aprile in Sopranos so it is funny you mention sopranos right after that scene.
Oh wow! Thanks for that, and thanks for just joining!! I just updated the imminent video to add you to it.
@betterwatchtv wow thanks so much! I have been binging this series multiple times already. Joining is the least I can do to show my appreciation. Fring! You tricky bastard!
Welcome back, combo
🎉
Her singing that birthday tune cringe was also a copy of the sopranos spoofing also from season five or six? I think. Idk which one was worse.
Yes, good point! I think my vote would go to the Breaking Bad one…
9:43 wouldn't jesse have choked to death too?
I guess he would have if he vomited! So he's lucky!
I think Skyler sang Happy Birthday for the past president of the company, Ted's father, not Ted specifically.
That makes sense (although maybe it's even weirder?)
I know a guy (the vet) who knows a guy (mike) who knows another guy (gus)
Sure, but by then Saul knew Mike extremely well. And later in the episode, he said that he “called a guy who called a guy who called another guy” to arrange the Gus meeting, which couldn’t have been true. Unless he called Mike who called Victor who called Gus!
@@betterwatchtv you make a good point there
DONT MAKE ME WATCH IT PLEASE DONT DONT DO THIS PLEASE PLEASE NO DONT DONT DO THIS TO ME SKYLER: PLEASE
Honestly i remembered this episode as a really great episode
That's fair!
I'm probably wrong, but Saul knows Caldera, Caldera knows Mike, Mike Knows Gus.
There are people we could plug in, but he knows Mike well enough to not insert someone before him!
Do sopranos man
Maybe one day! Next up is Better Call Saul, so I have time to think about it!
5:33 people talk about how cringe it is but I thought it was funny
😂 To me the candles lady is the cringe part!
