Aeroméxico Flight 498 parallel sent chills down my spine. The odds are astronomical, mid-air collisions are extremely rare, the name, the location. This kind of reference is just as unlikely to be made on purpose or by accident, it's insane
It seems obvious that planning a TV show will always be better than making it up as you go along and yet arguably the greatest TV show ever made was nothing close to planned. Jesse's death, Mike's existence.. the amount of things which happened or didn't happen based on something as simple as scheduling conflicts or fan reception.. it's just insane and you definitely could not recommend their method to any aspiring screenwriter. Great episode, that teddy bear in the Jane's poster was an awesome catch. Best part was hearing you have 7 new members and 1 million in views - your videos do this amazing show justice, congratulations you deserve it BWTV!!
Thanks so much, as always!! It is incredible how much of the show’s direction changed by unforeseen circumstances. Indeed, it’s hard to recommend that 🤣, although maybe the lesson is to not overthink things, be flexible, and roll with the punches!
It still baffles me that Tuco was meant to be the main villain of the entire show. I can't stand Tuco for more than 2 episodes so it's amazing how well it all went down.
I remember thinking the "Wanted" Camera work was so cool when I first saw it. This episode features Mike for the first time, the story on how he got on screen is so fascinating, he's my second favorite TV character. I'm glad they cut the vomit scene. I quite like the shot of Walter staring into the pool with the bear in it, the same color is something I never saw pointed out by anyone else so I wondered if I just analyzed too hard. Skyler putting all the pieces together was such a big scene to me when I first watched it, it's a subdued climax compared to what we would see later in episodes such as Ozymandias, but it was still a massive moment for the show at the time. The crash is definitely an interesting plot point, it's not bad but it's also not what comes to mind when I think of shocking Breaking Bad reveals
Yeah, I’m not a huge fan of the way the pink bear was such a focal point considering what the cause was. But the final Skyler scene gives me chills! So who’s your favorite TV character?
I'm not sure, maybe just the stress of all the extra exposure? Presumably he's worried about Saul's hacker being discovered and would rather not have the extra attention on the website (in addition to the whole "hating charity" thing).

With all respect intended, I believe there's a level of poetic irony that a man who played multiple cancer doctors in large TV shows ended up dying of cancer.
I’m pretty sure I graduated high school 🏫 the same day this episode premiered. So yeah it was pretty special. If Jane’s dad took more time to grieve he would have been in better mental health and wouldn’t collide two planes. So sad seeing Jesse blame himself for Jane’s death whereas Walt felt no remorse. Excellent channel you got here.
6:35 just to steer away from confusion, David House's death is probably unrelated to seeing Dr. Delcavoli for the last time, as the actor died in 2016, 3 years after the show was over.

Just a fun side note is Jonathan really slapped Aaron hard here. Aaron and both Jonathan have talked about it in interviews. Jonathan saying Aaron just wont let it go and Aaron saying for a week after his ears were still ringing. Aaron complained to Jonathan about it and Jonathan told him Oh Man up. Lol not sure why but every time I hear Aaron retell this in an interview it just makes me laugh for some reason
It’s funny how Walt told his son the ding 🛎️ on the computer disturbed the baby and then when talking to the doctor said Skyler will have one less baby to worry about referring to him. But really he’s referring to himself both times.
One of my favourite episodes. I always thought they could have incorporated a scene with Skylar and Gretchen though, where Skylar discovered her and Elliot hadn't given them any money. Not in the immediate episode as the reveal is supposed to be a surprise though. Great video!

One common notion I see that I disagree with is the idea that Walter caused and is responsible for the plane crash in this episode. While I see the connection that he killed Jane and thus her father was broken down as a result Nobody forced him to go back to work so soon. Then knowing the potential risks of the job, his supervisor shouldn't have allowed him to come back so soon knowing what he'd been through so recently. So I blame the supervisor for the crash more than I ever would walter
I find it ironic that usually the faults of supervisors and managers are immediately pushed onto other innocent people... Which in this case White's not exactly an innocent baby, but you get what I mean
9:36 If you include the episode “Phoenix” in this, as it starts with a shot of a pink teddy bear, just not in a black and white flash forward, you get the message “737 Down Over Phoenix ABQ” which doesn’t change much but is more specific
As a medical student, I can't help myself to comment about the surgery scene because thre is an error. The separator for a pulmonary lobectomy surgery is wrong. In the episode they showed a Gosset Retractor for separating the ribs in order to remove one of the lungs' anatomic lobes, which is incorrect because that separator couldn't provide the necessary force to separate the ribs. In real life, we use a finochietto retractor, wich have dents for the retracting parts to support on.
Also, the scene make the viewers believe that they are removing only the tumors from the affected lung, but in fact we remove a whole part of the lung in that surgery, wich includes the tumors but also healthy parts of it. That is basically to prevent excessive cuts, bleeding and surgical trauma, and also to make sure that there won't be any cancer cells in the remaining parts of the lung after the surgery.
Another detail is that Jane’s whole apartment layout should be mirrored because of the way it’s next door to Jesse’s, but it instead matches Jesse’s apartment
One possible additional parallel with the show's plane collision vs. the IRL inspiration Aeromexico Flight 498: The plane that caused the IRL collision was headed to Big BEAR City, CA.
Tiny correction - Bryan Cranston was always Vince Gilligan's choice for the role from day one, but I believe it was the network that were looking for someone more like Broderick etc, and couldn't see Cranston in the role.
@@betterwatchtv these videos have been great btw! I'm a massive Breaking Bad fan and have been enjoying watching a few of these per night. Keep it up!
Oh my lord these videos are so well edited and put together! The amount of effort required must be immense. Can’t believe youre only at 15k subscribers. Here’s to many more my friend! 🎉
Aviation is a prominent theme throughout the show: the first episode is titled Pilot; The first time we ever see the blue meth, Jesse takes it out of an airplane passenger seat its hidden in at the junkyard; Walt initially decides he only needs $737,000 (like a 737 plane) & you hear a plane in that scene; The creator’s personal favorite episode of the show is titled Fly; The nazis even have a plane rotor decoration in the final scene; etc.
The Los Pollos Hermanos cup logo has a blue circle- a focal point in Gus Fring & Walter White’s first scene in Mandala. It resembles the blue marble photograph from Apollo 17. Gus Grissom & Ed White were part of the Apollo 1 crew that was killed by fire, allegedly by NASA as an example to ensure secrecy of all future astronauts, they factored into the naming of Gus & Walt. Apollo 1 is the first NASA mission & it never flew. Chickens are birds that can’t sustainably fly. Mandala is the first episode with Gus & Los Pollos Hermanos. The next episode Phoenix is named after the firebird, like on Skinny Pete’s hat- also the Mars lander Phoenix on the news in that episode & Phoenix, AZ is Jane’s birthplace as revealed in this episode- the firebird is just so prominent throughout the shows & El Camino. One comment on this thread mentioned Jack talking about ash trays not being on modern airplanes, the phoenix is a firebird that rises from the ashes. Walter references flat earth in this episode ABQ, so altogether it is alchemical clues that NASA is hiding the actual shape of earth & our ability to transcend aviation would expose them. Bryan Cranston is known for his alchemy of having his birthday on the death day of Stanley Kubrick- who is believed to have faked the moon landing for NASA.
The season four episode Thirty-Eight Snub premiered on legendary female aviator Amelia Earhart’s birthday July 24. The episode contains Saul’s TV commercial for ‘aviation disaster’ legal representation. Breaking Bad episodes 30 & 8 are Fly & Seven Thirty-Seven, respectively. Episode 38 is Shotgun, its title suggests comparison to the snub revolver. The writers want viewers to make an inference of ‘revolving’ compared to ‘pumping’. Its an allusion to the supposed orbital revolution of earth & the Antarctic Treaty of 1959 that prohibits pumping for oil in Antartica- actually intended to restrict access to Antartica allegedly where earth continues. The drug addict repeatedly saying “Tucker” in the episode Shotgun is a reference to the Tucker Sno-Cats used on expeditions in Antartica. Jesse gives Tucker a shovel to dig to the other side of earth. The season three episode I See You premiered on the anniversary of the first expedition ever to the north pole, Admiral Richard Byrde’s flight on May 9. The Mexican bi-polar twin brothers resemble the poles of earth- one is even named Marco, the opposite of Polo. Gus Fring brings free chicken as a gift to the DEA- similar to Santa Clause who lives in the north pole- to distract them from the ICU so Mike can kill the final remaining twin, Leonel. So Leonel resembles the north pole, while Marco resembles the south pole because he’s the twin who looks into the oil tank searching for Nacho in Better Call Saul episode 603. Leonel’s name is a reference to Galileo, again hinting at heliocentrism. The one-eyed needle Mike uses on Leonel is a reference to the translunar injection NASA uses to fly crafts to the moon, it also connects to Jesse having one eye in that episode. Stanley Kubrick worked on the film One-Eyed Jacks. The snowflake in this episode ABQ is the closest reference to Christmas we ever see in the show, its Mike’s first appearance & another scene with a syringe. Jonathan Banks’ debatably most famous movie role is Airplane!. The season five episode Buyout was released on aviation pioneer Orville Wright’s birthday & National Aviation Day August 19, its the first episode with Declan who runs a meth operation in Phoenix, AZ. Vamanos Pest warehouse has a fly anatomy poster. Season five episode Gliding Over All, Jack says “whacking Bin Laden wasn’t this complicated.” Its title is also suggestive of aviation.
To [UPDATE] MY Previous comment. This 7:21 is when Walt turns Heisenberg into a full reality. To me, this is the biggest change that has happened in his life since finding out that he had cancer. His wife leaving him, the plane crash, his main and final actual surgery for cancer all happens here in this episode. I believe what all those changes brought on the change in him into Heisenberg.
That definitely could have happened as well. Vince said that this was the original plan (having him only in S2). I suppose they still might have changed their mind about that, even if they used him here!
Oh wow, you're right! But it's also a continuity error! Mike puts both gloves in the bag, but the instant the camera angle changes, the one glove is indeed still in his hand, presumably so he can use it to open and close the door!
Oh yeah I was checking something in the episode, and I saw a film artifact, since its much easier to point out the exact timestamp in youtube, its in 1:36-ish around Jane's stomach! Although idk if you counted this already, but here!
This was the hardest episode to watch. I am a grown man, and many times during this episode I was considering turning it off, it was unbearable. The actors did a phenomenal job
I always thought it’d be a fun albeit lesser series finale if after Skyler spoke to Walt’s mom, she came to town and put an end to his meth duchy (tempted to say empire, but rn it’s a little small- so duchy)
I mean, two airliners in 2009 should have never collided in real life. TCAS would have intervened long before then, even if one crew was completely unwilling to take action.
Hey there man! Now listen I've got a theory, i think Walt is Heisenberg. Now it doesn't seem believable at first but if you piece the evidence together the same way i did you would totally believe me.
I agree that I didn’t like the whole pink bear thing, but I don’t know that I could rate the season lower than S1 because of episodes like Better Call Saul and 4 Days Out. But I see the argument!

I only just realised in this video, the actor for Jane's dad is the same actor as Q in Star Trek: TNG 🤔
Yep, indeed!
The way they emotionally rip you with these two episodes (before too) is just...
God the actors knew what was up
Yep!!
If you look closely when he opens the door he pulls out his glove to open the door at 2:01
Oh wow, you're right! But it's also a continuity error! Mike puts both gloves in the bag, but the instant the camera angle changes, the one glove is indeed still in his hand, presumably so he can use it to open and close the door!
Camera work is not supposed to be subtle here, the opposite, it's a joke not just foreshadowing 2:54
Yep! I didn’t mean to imply it was incorrect! Thanks!
Got a great chuckle out of me at 5:00
🤣 Yeah, I love that!
Letting the planes crash could’ve also been lashing out at the world for taking his daughter away. I don’t think that is what happens here though
Right, I don’t think so either!
Oh yeah I was checking something in the episode, and I saw a film artifact, since its much easier to point out the exact timestamp in youtube, its in 1:36-ish around Jane's stomach! Although idk if you counted this already, but here!
Found it! Thanks!
because of this i want to rewatch this masterpiece
You can rewatch along with me if you’re willing to do one episode a week! (After catching up with the first two seasons…)
John de Lancie makes me cry every time i saw this. i didn't even realize it was Q until recently. what an amazing actor
Yeah, definitely!
9:22
That is an INSANE ‘coincidence’.
I know, right? I never heard anyone say that they were inspired by that, though.
5:01 this sound effect is my favorite its so funny, which one is it?
It's called "Fright - Orchestral Movie Scare"
@@betterwatchtv Thx!
And thus chapter 1 of Breaking Bad comes to a close.
9:30 OH SHIT
I know, right!?
Jane's father also says "truth or consequences" at the end of the episode.
Ahh! Nice catch!
This was the hardest episode to watch. I am a grown man, and many times during this episode I was considering turning it off, it was unbearable. The actors did a phenomenal job
Definitely! Thanks!
Fact 25 is crazy like NAAAAH WHAT ?!?!?
I know, right!?
You missed at 8:52 when he calls her "Anna" not Skyler.
To me, it sounds like Skyler! Just a little mumbled!
At the time stamp, he absolutely says "Skyler", then says "Stay, 'and I...'" if you thought he said "Stay, Anna"
Imagine if Matthew Broderick got the role - a murderer played by an actual murderer
I had to look that up!
Yeah thank christ he didn't- I don't know if I would have been able to watch this show just on general principle.
I always thought it’d be a fun albeit lesser series finale if after Skyler spoke to Walt’s mom, she came to town and put an end to his meth duchy (tempted to say empire, but rn it’s a little small- so duchy)
Interesting! I could picture Carol Burnett playing Walt’s mom (in this alternate universe, which means she wouldn’t have done Better Call Saul)!
Also crazy when you learn Bob Odenkirk also had a real heart attack on set for better call Saul
Yeah! So unbelievable!
for those wondering,,JM is full for Jambo Jet airline.
I am from Kenya
Oh nice! Thanks!
7:02 this is a negative but real way peopel react
Indeed!
JM in radio alphabet is Juliet Mike, not Jane Mike.
Great!
Thanks, as always, Dahcuesta!
&:07 im so mad he dident usethe escuse later that, he thought about his old phone he had before the tuco kiddnapping and the new phone after
Yeah!
You are in the running for the best page on UA-cam
🥹 Thanks!!
At 8:51 does he call her "Anna"?
It’s kind of mumbled, but I hear “Skyler”!
the ATC thing is actually kinda cool
I agree! Thanks!
i wonder how many people actually donated to walter in universe
Good question! Supposedly Marie told lots of people, so that should have resulted in many donations!
Micheal, is that you
No it's Dave Clarke
👏
That Walter White thing was actually insane holy
I know, right!?
How many former Seinfeld characters are in breaking bad? 3 here alone……
Ha! Not sure, but I know about Bryan Cranston, Anna Gunn, Bob Odenkirk, and Jessica Hecht!
He killed his daughter by treating her like garbage. Walt is innocent. I wish I was dead.
06:42, how convenient it is, that the doctor dies from cancer 💀💀
Quite a coincidence!
4:46 lmao
😂
Let’s go!!!!!
I mean, two airliners in 2009 should have never collided in real life. TCAS would have intervened long before then, even if one crew was completely unwilling to take action.
They attempt to close that plot hole in S2! Walt says that reports said TCAS malfunctioned!
@@betterwatchtv Boeing strikes again
😂🙃
Is it me or Marie is very visibly pregnant at 5:41?
Ah, I think it’s shortly after giving birth, because she’s smaller than before. But yeah!
Film articact left 6:59 of head
Hmm, I'm not seeing it! Any other clues?
@@betterwatchtv It's a single frame, to the left of the hair above the door handle
@@betterwatchtv on .25 speed it's about 2-3 counted seconds in my head after clicking the time stamp. It seems very small
Good job. Now you take a break and do titles explained for new tv show
😆 One of these days! I already started on Season 3 because I’m trying to squeeze in an extra video on April 1st!
Hey guys
Hank!! Welcome, buddy!
Hey there man! Now listen I've got a theory, i think Walt is Heisenberg. Now it doesn't seem believable at first but if you piece the evidence together the same way i did you would totally believe me.
Hank, just go to El Paso and stop this obsession with Heisenberg!
I don't know man, i just have this feeling. Please let me work on this case just a bit longer.
Better get to it, then.
thank the lord bob went on himym
finally
😉
this was by far the worst season overall, the whole pink teddy bear stuff dragged down the pacing of the entire season for a very very minute payoff
I agree that I didn’t like the whole pink bear thing, but I don’t know that I could rate the season lower than S1 because of episodes like Better Call Saul and 4 Days Out. But I see the argument!
@@betterwatchtv the episodes each on their own are great, it's just that the overarching plot realy drags, wich is not the case for any other season.
but hey it's breaking bad so it's still realy good.
Yep! I’ll eventually do a ranking of all the episodes, but ranking seasons is also interesting. I did a poll about that earlier this year.
@@betterwatchtv ohh shit, i just realized that it's you :D.
thanks for the videos i realy enjoyed this retrospective and your production value is very good.
Thanks!!
I wish there was an out take of Gus pulling a shitty poler face before saying “terrible”
Hahaha
