    Keep going strong! These videos are very informative and allow anyone to learn and be able to fix the problems they have at hand. Watched one video on how to get the firing pin set on my penn cv 5000 and I was able to complete the task thanks to you!! Look forward to tearing into my other reels and learning!! Thanks again

    Dennis, how does this reel compare with a Shimano Senora spinning reel? Believe it or not I just acquired a Senora 4000 FA . It is a much more modern reel than I usually get but I wanted another reel to put braid on for longer casts. I hope it’s big enough for light to medium surf fishing. Only rarely do I hook anything over 15 to 20 lbs. and even that large is rare. I guess I wanted to do this after I caught that monster stingray last fall on 20 lb. braid on the NC Outer Banks. That ray was probably way over 75 lbs. I just want another reel with braid. Also I caught that giant ray with a Shimano reel.

    thank you so much. my problem is i dropped the collection of washers and did not know the order of re-assembly. i also put the retention washer under the shaft gear instead of on top which was a problem. interested in your background. are you a mechanical engineer or did you design reels for a living? also, you mentioned this was a $60 reel. what do you charge for this type of service? seems like it might be more cost effective to buy a new one. i put your channel in my fishing bookmarks as i enjoy tinkering a bit

      I was a salesman by trade and a teacher by education. I am a reel hobbyist. I have always had a mechanical aptitude and my love of fishing and tinkering with a few broken reels led me to where I am today - Thanks for asking - Dennis

    It was most likely fresh water damage do to the state of dry grease and not a of a lot corrosion.

    What grease and oil do you recommend using? I have the 2500 and it feels like it is dragging when feeling in.

    • @2ndChanceTackle
      @2ndChanceTackle  2 роки тому

      Any fishing reel grease and oil is good for just about any fishing reel. Stick with them. I use Penn Precision reel greases and oils. Dennis

    Hi, I just purchased this reel in the 2500 size used. The small screw that sits next to the nut holding the rotor on is missing. Can the reel be used without this screw? What is its purpose?

    • @2ndChanceTackle
      @2ndChanceTackle  4 роки тому

      Yes - you can use the reel. That missing screw is a hold fast that prevents the rotor nut from turning loose. The reel can be used without it, just make sure tha you check the nut from time to time to see that it the nut remains tight - Dennis

    i have this reel and the handle is stuck it will not come off no matter what. Anything i can try? i've sprayed wd40 all over it.

    • @2ndChanceTackle
      @2ndChanceTackle  3 роки тому

      I assume that you have removed the side screw from the non-handle side. If that is the case, and you have soaked it in a penetrating oil, then you need to assume you have one that is rusted in (it shouldn't rust) or is clogged with dirt, or something else holding it tight. You may need to assume that it is not going to come out and be willing to get a replacement gear and handle if you want to continue. If the reel is working OK, then you may just want to leave it alone as forego the service of the lower case. If you want to proceed, you would need to try and shock the handle to free it up. That would involve a quick jolt with a hammer blow from the non-handle side, using the handle cap, a nail set, or a small wood dowel to reach into the case while protecting the grease of the handle shaft. Be careful if you are using the handle cap, you may break it. Center that punch on the out side of the shaft, not in the threads and give the rod or punch a quick, sharp blow with a small hammer. That should move the handle, it it doesn't, it may be a total loss.
      If you choose to do this, make sure the handle side of the reel where the handle is going to come out, is free of any obstruction. Best wishes on a tough one! Dennis

    My anti reverse isn’t working, it was then when I put it together it doesn’t

    • @2ndChanceTackle
      @2ndChanceTackle  5 років тому +1

      I m not sure what is wrong, because this is. roller clutch anti-reverse system. Did you remove the clutch or disassemble it? You need all of the roller bearing in there to work properly. If the clutch is broken, it will need to be replaced. Check for the schematic at Mikesreelrepair.com and make sure you have the assembly set properly. - Dennis

      @@2ndChanceTackle never mind i figured it out also i watched your video on this. It was the circle spacer and flat washer that goes in the drive shaft for the spool it was backwards. I put it in backwards, cause when i took it apart it fell off and i didnt know where it came from, so when i figure where it came from i put it in not knowing which way it went, so i took it apart and figured it out it was. Your video did help me look at what i kinda missed but this one i had to figure it out.
