Is it the only ghost train in the world to use the reverse chain lift thingy? Or maybe even the only ride full stop? Ghost Train is up there as one of my fave rides, would LOVE to ride it alone, at midnight, with no lights on.
Random fact but underneath those ‘tilting theatre masks’ on the back wall is some artwork of Freddy Krueger. I assume it may have been covered over to prevent any copyright issues
As a kid in the 90s the vampire bat and skeleton with glowing green eyes was one of a number of things at BPB that were as magical as anything Disney would have...Glad I got to experience them through kid eyes
There used to be this really tall creature that looked like a rip-off of a Xenomorph from the Alien franchise stood in the archway next to the queueing area, always remember it looking absolutely terrifying but really cool and impressive at the same time, shame they removed it, maybe they thought it was too scary for kids, apparently that's why they changed the troll character sat next to the track by designing a new more or less identical one with a friendlier looking face, cause apparently the original one used to freak out the children.
I remember when the Ghost Train used to have strings hanging down in part of the ride and the tunnel used to rotate with a spinning original swirl effect at the end of the tunnel. I also remember when green ghost in the roof used to move forward and backwards too. I was only born in 1991, so I do briefly remember it in the late 90's when I was a kid. I genuinely do believe that Mr Cloggs, Joseph Emberton and the original ride builder all haunt the Ghost Train, I personally haven't witnessed anything yet, but I hope I do in the future 😂👌👻 Apparently Mr Cloggs favourite cars are number 18 and 23, I hope I get in one of them sometime 👍
Hey, thanks for commenting! I am not sure I fancy using those cars in the future 😰😅 I remember the strings and other stuff hanging down, used to give me the creeps!
Great video, Scott. Childhood memories of the Ghost Train: First time I went on it it had all orange trains. These then got painted purple (there is a video on UA-cam with a brief glimpse of these - but I’d have to go looking for it again. I remember the revolving tunnel used to be yellow with stripes and used to spin much faster. It made you feel as if the track was tipping to one side and train was going to fall off. This was long before they made it an approaching train locomotive scare.
This was always my fave Ghost Train as a kid, even though I was always terrified. I rode this more in the 70s and it looked a lot different to now. The highlights were the outside dip, the two loops that took you outside and the three skeletons on the bicycles! Awesome.
I performed in the Ghost Train play a few years ago with the local theatre group. What's great about being in it is you are listening for your cue lines, so when the jumpscares happen, you genuinely jump everytime cause you forget when its going to happen. So much fun
Great blog Scott! Love the ghost train and don’t quite know why! Love the new zombie in a box feature right at the start when you are about to go in, really good. Wish Slimer still worked and fly in and out, not seen it working for a few years. Think they’ll get it operational again? Was a highlight to see it when queueing.
Nice video 🖤 just incase anyone wanted to know...the music played on the Ghost Train since the late 70s/early 80s (think where you hear the cats squealing)...is called Impressions of a Sorcerer by Tangerine Dream 😏
This was the second and permanent ride I worked on in 04 and the start of 05 when we ran 13 cars on a quiet day and upwards of 15 on busy days. I also miss the old siren. In the 3rd section behind one of the scenes on the left hand side there used to be a small room with a bed in it which I was told had been there back to the 70s and ride ops used to get a cheeky kip at times
Well you learn something everyday. I knew the name was taken from the name of a play but I didn't know the bloke who wrote the play went on to appear as Private Godfrey in dad's army.
Another interesting fact I found out about this ride is that it uses the song "Impressions of Sorcerer" by Tangerine Dream they added sound effects and removed the beat and guitar sections the ride still uses it today but is changed a little.
I love blackpool pleasure beach but i can barely go because its 200 miles away and we normaly spend 500 pound so its verry expensive. But i love watching outher people riding the atractions and learning about the parks history.
Anyone remember the big dragon head outside that used to spray mist? This was in the 90's. Probs one of my fave rides ever. Or looking through the comments it was a bat?? I was a small child in the 90's, but always remember the cool mist it sprayed. NVM he mentioned it :D

It’s always the first to go on when I go to the pleasure beach. It has certainly changed a lot throughout the years of course I like all things vintage but I love the slight modernised things in there like the exorcist scene in the last section and the boiler scene at the start. Although I miss the old portrait scene where the face pops his eyes out Im not so keen on the screen now sometimes it doesn’t always work when I go on it.
