    I know in a hydronic heating system using radiators, water will take the easiest path all day. One radiator would be full hot and the other would get zero flow and be cold. It doesn’t take two routes unless it’s forced to do so via a “balancing valve”, which is installed to throttle the water going the easier path to equalize flow. Your system might work - and it sounds like it does- but it’s more luck than anything if that’s the case. An easy test would be to run the pump before the outlet side of the Venturi and the filter are connected and see if water flows out of both. If it doesn’t,, an inline valve on the route that has the flow could be installed and incrementally closed until good flow is observed from the other route.

    • @DIYColdPlunge
      @DIYColdPlunge  10 місяців тому

      In this instance, the venturi is the "balancing valve." This setup keeps the plumbing system running the most efficiently - filtering, creating the vacuum/suction and minimizing loss of total overall flow in your plunge.

    Something to consider in the future would be adding a threaded union joint between the two 90 elbows. In the event you ever needed to swap out the filter cap or the Venturi (both with threads) you could do so without having to reconstruct the entire assembly. Great video, thanks for putting this out there!

    I guess putting the filter and venturi in parallel could work, as long as there's flow through each one. You're gonna have some unfiltered water going thru the venturi, and some plain water going thru the filter, but after enough time (and assuming there's flow thru both) the water will end up being clean and sanitized enough.

    • @DIYColdPlunge
      @DIYColdPlunge  3 місяці тому

      Even if you put the filter and ventur in-line, as soon as the water hits back to the tank would be "unfiltered"... The only way to truly filter the water would be to go from one tub to another anyway. This simplifies the plumbing setup and operates the most efficiently for water sanitation.

    It seems the norm is to run the filter system after the chiller/pump (mine is a combo unit), why is that? Wouldn't we want to filter the water before it hits the expensive chiller, to prevent sand/dirt getting into the chiller? Why run it after?

    • @DIYColdPlunge
      @DIYColdPlunge  Рік тому +1

      To protect it from ozone, and to prioritize suction at the venturi. Any debri that gets through the strainer, & pump (in my opinion) likely won't harm the chiller.

    I am a little confused about this setup. Isn't the resistance for flow through the venturi injector much smaller than through the mechanical filter? I would expect most water to flow through the Venturi injector (path of least resistance) and the filter only catching heavier particle that land in the lower branch due to gravity. Does your filter get dirty at all? Am I misunderstanding this set up? Is the flow resistance of the venturi injector comparable to the filter, is that why it is working?

    • @DIYColdPlunge
      @DIYColdPlunge  Рік тому

      Hey! The filter definitely gets dirty. Because the venturi condenses down, majority of the water flow goes through the filter. Gravity doesn't contribute much to the system at all, its all flow-based.

  • @KFactorConcepts

    Question… on the exit side of the filter/venturi, why couldn’t you just put a T joint where the 90 elbow is thats bringing the ozone treated water back towards the filter. If you put a T instead of a 90 wouldn’t it allow the water to flow more easily? Basically the ozone treated water would not be coming back towards the filter and just exit straight down when meeting with the filtered water. Hope that makes sense.

      I like your thinking! Most pumps will output between 1000-1800 gallons/hr. On a 100 gallon tank (that probably has 80ish gallons in it) the water changes over many times. Ozone generators should run at least an hour, maybe 2-3 depending on overall use so majority of the water will see ozone a few times over during that time span. Putting the venturi exclusively in line would greatly reduce the flow rate, affecting overall water circulation and making the pump work a lot harder. The ozone will also meet up with the water after it runs through the filter anyway. This configuration is the best of both worlds.... I totally realize this is a ramble but long story short this keeps the water moving so more water overall can be both filtered and "ozoned" 😂 Does that make sense?

    • @jwgreene2
      @jwgreene2 Рік тому +5

      All these comments make sense...but to get the best of both worlds it seems like the parallel part should be after the filter. That way all water is filtered, then some is split off to the venturi tube for ozone, then rejoins the rest. Anything wrong with that scenario?

    • @bhatton87
      @bhatton87 Рік тому +5

      @@jwgreene2the thinking here is so the venturi also acts as a bypass in the case of the filter becoming plugged. This would prevent the pump or chiller from burning out if the filter plugs

    • @rodrigoricardi1777
      @rodrigoricardi1777 10 місяців тому +1

      I also think that @jegreene2 is correct, I sell some ozone diluted in water systems and what we struggle the most is that for some reason the Venturi gets clogged,and then we have to unclogged by running water in reverse, when you pass your water without filtration through your vinturi you can also get the same problem of getting it clogged. And in your system there is no way to run water the opposite way to fix it.

Water isn’t crystal clear and now I’m thinking of using a water filter like you have in the video. Due to installation it may not be possible to install the new filter in place of inline filter/stainer could I install it before my return valve? The line that send the water back Into the cold plugs after the chiller? That line has more space to accommodate the size of this thing. Or does the filter have to be installed by the drain line

      I have another video that talks through some of it, but you don't want to restrict water flow that much. And as soon as the filtered water hits the tub, it's no longer "filtered." You'd need to filter into a new tank for all the water to get filtered in one shot.

    • @DIYColdPlunge
      @DIYColdPlunge  2 роки тому

      The main reason is to maintain the flow rate of the water - which most want for a few reasons. The venturi injector needs a certain PSI to create suction. Your chiller also needs water to move at a certain rate to function efficiently and keep the water cold. The electrical consumption difference on a pump is going to be extremely minimal. From a user experience standpoint, moving water will break down the thermal barrier your body creates.
