I just wanted to say hi :) I started grooming in 1985 and have read all those books you have listed below. Great Books I'd recommend! I have taken several online grooming courses. I've never been interested in the competing world of this business, or show grooming, just pet grooming. I've worked in several salons. I have opened 5 salons of my own. I was administrator and instructor for a grooming school. I have designed a groomers manual for the school. I've taught several people how to groom and start their own business. I have been a veterinarians assistant. After all these years, I have now gone mobile, and groom in my clients home, to get away from all the stresses, and just groom 4 dogs a day. I have watched several UA-cam videos on grooming and I want to say... YOU ROCK!!! I
Oh my goodness... you just made my week!!! Thank you for sharing your story here in the comments, others can benefit from people like you and i💕. Hugs to you my friend! You Rock too✨
Before I knew about this channel I just asked google for everything I want to know about grooming. Now if i want to educate myself I just visit your channel. Keep the good work. Hope one day to make this my profession as you!
You groomed great before you trained. You are a true artist. I just wanna do my shitzus 2 of em. I did a really lousy job. My first time. I know I will get better. Its fun but we needed lots of breaks. Lol took me forever on one. Appteciate your videos so much!!
Your such an inspiration to me and my passion for grooming. Iv been grooming professionally for 6yrs and I’m still learning new things from you! Your so awesome!
Thank you for talking about this topic. I went to a grooming shop that was illinois school board certified, it was 500 hour course, I think at the end I groomed around 125 full grooms. I got a diploma, not a certification, the certification would be if my score was below a certain number, I got a 97, which was a diploma. To this day, I still do not even know what that means. When I left school, I did not feel like I was ready to go out there. Your videos are so helpful to not only dog owners who are wanting to learn how to groom their own dogs, but a huge blessing to groomers as well. I can not thank you enough for putting these great videos out there!!!!
We all started somewhere Corinne:) I was not very confident when I started either. Trust me, you will improve and learn something from every groom:) It gives me great joy to hear I have helped you and others. I truly want to help anyone who needs a boost:) Hugs to you sweetie!
Once again Amy your videos are awesome. Yes yes I want to be a groomer but no hands on schools close by. I guess it’s going to have to be online for me. I have also been trying to get hired at local pet stores but no luck. I think it’s age discrimination because all I see is young kids and I am in my 50’s trying to have a career change but no one seems to want to give me a chance. I’m not giving up though because your videos help me have more confidence and like you said take it slow. I ask my friends if they will allow me to groom their dog for free so I can get practice, of course they say yes. 1st I watch 1 of your videos on the type I am doing and I take my time. I seem to get 1 dog every 2 weeks lol not many of my friends have dogs but it takes me an average from start to finish 2 hours or more. Thanks again Amy for the very helpful links. I only wished all your videos were numbered so I could watch them in order. I wished more groomers were like you n would be helpful instead of thinking someone trying to take their job. Information or kindness shouldn’t be a struggle for people.😁
great video Amy. Lots of very good and wise advise. Grooming isn't easy. Some dogs are good on a grooming table and some are very aggressive. You have to know how to handle them. Wow my course cost me $2000.00. But I did get certified(which I am thankful for). Awesome video Amy you are spot on. It took me a year and 3 months to complete. You can also learn from professional handlers if you are interested in showing.
The show ring is a great place to find someone knowledgable to mentor:) I do think it's a good idea to complete some type of certification course to learn the basics and get comfortable working with dogs. Also, clients like to see something to solidify our capabilities. Of course experience is the best teacher. Improving upon every groom has and still is my mission and goal. There will always be an aspect of the groom I would like to improve and I think being critical of our work only makes us better pet groomers. Thanks Sharon and keep rockin' it sister!
Hi I am in Australia and I love watching you OMG I have learnt so much I too now would like to start my own mobile dog grooming service I spent my life working in age care facilities and caring for the palliative now at 50 I would like a change in career and you have inspired me to as a mum of 8 dogs 4 cats my house is always busy and I to brought a 3yrold brittish girl Bailey so your bulldog video was great thanks again I'll keep watching from Tanya and her babies xo
I am so impressed with your dedication, ethical treatment of our best friends, etc. I would let you groom my "Jack-hua-hia"!! Only our vet & You! You are the greatest vet. So sweet you are! As Yoda would say. We love & thank you
I love these videos. Really helpful! Only negative is who adds the music which accompanies these?? Finding it very distracting and makes it harder to concentrate. Is there way to turn it off?
I absolutely enjoyed watching you video and feel like you really put in a lot of great tips and information. Im just starting on researching deeper into becoming a groomer and haven’t been exactly sure where to start or what books and info that could help and you really have! Excited to continue to watch your videos :)
I’m so glad I found you! I’ve been grooming for 3 years now for Corp and I’ve always dreamed of having my own salon. I found your video for starting your own business and did some other research and it’s soo achievable. You helped me turn a dream into a 5-10 year goal. Thank you so much for sharing so many of your tips tricks and secrets.
Miss Amy, You are such a sweet and a pleasant Lady to listen to, and learn from. But I have a little problem with some of your videos, and I'm sure others may have too. The background music is a little bit too load and tiring. We come to your videos to listen to YOU, to absorb everything you present to us and concentrate in order to visualize and memorize what you are saying or you are showing us. For most of us all of 'this' is new, so hearing better your voice is important. Music is not so important to us when we come to your videos, we can play our own if we want to. I know you mean well of course, and your intention is to make these videos very pleasant. They are, but when you teach us, we want to hear our teacher load and clear, without distraction. Thank you for reading this !
If you dont have a bath, and you need to bath your dog, you could consider buying a bath bucket. They are not really expensive, and as long as your dog is nog huge, then he or she will fit inside.
ANY I am going to try your shampoos , conditioner and Quick slicker spray. Lately I have been doing a lot of doodles. And brushing has been a little challenge cause they are so matted. Clients groom the top a d forget to go to the skin. Thx Amy, love you and your channel. Keep up the great work. I also wanted to commend you on anal glands too. I don't do them either. Had to at grooming school, but my vet said No. We could do more damage. So I never have. Good info.
I love the natures specialty sun guard conditioner. It produces a soft coat and aids in de-shedding and brushing. If you are seeing some doodle coats that are a tough brush out...try thoroughly brushing them out as soon as they get out of the tub after shampooing and the sun guard conditioner. It really is the ticket to making that coat type behave:) I had to speak my mind on the anal glands. So many clients think us groomers should take care of it. I firmly disagree and for good reason. Glad to know you feel the same on that issue:) Love you too sweetie:)
You are very welcome:) Keep working in your profession and begin learning to groom dogs. You certainly can transition my friend:) Anything I can do to help, please let me know:) Hugs!
Hi Amy! Could you suggest some ways to determine if a groomer is ready to go out on their own and Start their own business? I’m sure it’s different for everyone.
I groom my mix breed Maltese he dose not like being brush too often as we go he’s getting better he’s a rescue so I’ve no idea how often he’s been worked with he dose tolerate a bath well I’ve just started clipping and cutting to shape what ad vise do you have for a unknown
Well that makes sense about the glands! I’ve practiced anal glands when I was a bather at a pet resort, and I’ve always wondered why some glands released and some didn’t ( even thinking I wasn’t doing it correct at times ) makes me feel bad 🥴. Lots of them needed to eat better I’m now thinking 🤦🏽♀️ that just blew me away.
Hello, I'm new to your channel and love your videos. I am looking into getting certified and I am torn between paragon and jkl grooming courses. I might have missed it but is Paragon the only legit school or it is just your recommendation? Also what certifications do you have?

I know what you mean...I see that a lot too:) I think Lexy only grooms her doggies though.
