Animenz's arrangement of Sincerely from Violet Evergarden is pretty epic. But what does he do to get the performance in the video? That's what we'll break down in this video.

As someone who just plays piano as a hobby and never taken lessons, it's really interesting to hear all these details explained. What he's doing, why he's doing it and what it brings to the performance. Great stuff!

One of my favourite things about this Animenz arrangement is that he thoroughly constructed it to replicate the vibe and emotion of the song (with the emotion being stronger with this IMO-and with that being said, I personally like it a tad more than the actual song… and the song is god-tier!). Even though he incorporated alot of his own techniques, it’s not at all inessential to the music-plus it’s a very innovative approach to help try to mimic most, if not all the instruments that were involved in the OP. He started this song elegantly and finished beautifully.
Your reactions are always entertaining to watch, and I look forward to seeing more from you! 😉

A very useful video that I will revisit for when I learn this arrangement. I like all the tips on putting weight on the keys and the importance of certain movements. It helped me better understand what I was both looking and listening to. Once again, thanks for another great review 👍

Also quick question watt: I can play tenths relatively comfortably (no large 10ths like Bb-D or elevenths tho) but I’m having a lot of trouble tremoloing a tenth that I can play normally at the end of this piece. Any tips?
side note: rly would love for u to react to Animenz vogel im kafig and everlasting guilty crown those are slept on

I'm assuming you're talking about the ones that tremelo between like an interval and an individual note like in the very last line of the score: I'd focus on the rotation in the wrist while letting it move laterally to reach the notes and prioritize the pinky and the thumb since those will be the most audible and provide the best points of emphasis to set the chord. Then set your third finger (or whatever you're using to play the note inbetween) on the note and let it depress whenever you play your pinky, even if it's only slightly. It won't come out strongly, but because you'll be holding the pedal it'll still ring and make the sound thicker.

This was very helpful. I actually just sight read this the other day and was wondering about some of the things you mentioned here. I'd also like to point out that at 1:43 another thing that makes playing the middle voice a little easier is the fact that the thumb can reach farther from the finger next to it than any other fingers, which makes it easier and more comfortable to reach the notes there. -why do you pause at the worst times smh-
