What a blast it was to build up our ships to near invincible and indestructible in the inner planetary systems. I miss those days gettting paid to play this game at work so long as our jobs got done. If there Ever was a game to re-make, it is this one, the Great Grand Daddy of all Good Space Shooters. However but (and it's a big one, all puns intended), they Must do it correctly! Filled to the brim with adrenalin of course. I never could recreate this experience in any game since then. And the little favourite passtime of "Hey, I move my mouse and the guns look at that side! I was so hyped when I managed to get to the very last system available in the game. No warpgates or hyperlanes for like two or three systems. And having to just explore the systems on ship engines. No place to land. And then entering the last system, and boom. Two planets. No hyperlanes still. But two planets. One with a population of robots. And the other, apes. That was the coolest easter egg I ever found as a teen.
Loved this game. The plot was so well thought-out and acted that I ran through the game within a week. It was like a book I couldn't put down and that's rare. Would love it if they made a movie out of it. No need to overly complicate it, just do the cut scenes the way they're done in this playthough and they'd be fine. Could even be done as a three part movie.
WOW, that brought back great memories. I played it for about 10 years straight, and loved every second of it. Thanks so much for streaming this!! RIBBIT!!!
I remember this well, fondly remember finding all the hidden systems, grinding to get the corsair Titan extremely heavy fighter, the best in the game and mounting it up with the best experimental level 10 weapons and gear I collected, drained the weapons power in 5 seconds but took out battleships in one volley so much beyond op you just breezed through every system. Sat the damn thing on a neutron star once, not much damage.
I never could beat the game. 😆 I think I made it to Japanese (?) space and just couldn't beat the (Yakuza?) forces there. I tried their various ships but couldn't make a good build. I still play this game, have my original disc and cardboard disc sleeve! Closest thing I could find to the OG Elite game I played on my C64...yeah I said C64 LoL!
for anyone reading this, you need to target the spinning red reticle when batteling ship to ship instead of trying to shoot the ship directly the reticle will place the shots where the ship WILL BE
I still rate every single space game compared to this. So far only Elite Dangerous comes close of all that I've played, and Freelancer still has it beat due to the story. Thank you for the nostalgia, TheBaldMan, and the smiles.
SpaceBourne is the best space we got in 2020 imo. Even have better charm than Starfield and really impressive for a game that been made by 1-man developer. Looking forward to SpaceBourne 2 update

I would have liked to try discovery. But I didn't have access to the internet back then. I played Frontier Space Mod for days though....I will have it working on my PC
Didn't realise there was an HD mod for this game! Downloading it now! It's funny to me that the Mod is several times bigger than the actual original game, lol.
At 1:38:00, if you hide behind the jump gate after shooting the navy ships they will spend all their missles and you can kill them easily. Doing so will drop a unique laser repeater that has higher damage for the energy cost than any other gun in its class. A sneaky little easter egg.
Good memories, I played the story mission more then 20 times for sure. So good it was. There is just so more to love about the game, I remember being inlove with the way some systems looked, and the music at planet Malta felt so special to me, it felt like home. Thats where my nickname comes from :) It is a fantastic game, even thou it was incomplete for multiplayer and abandoned by microsoft, people still played it for more then 10 years, and often one was in game for hours just chatting. You always thought about something else to experiment with, like following nomad ships to see where they go lol, looking for the mytical Valalha research station, that's in the description of the alien system jumphole. Getting your trade lane disrupted by an outcast named Miguel Benitez, the same name of the leader of the Outcasts, and immediately you imagine he was looking for his missing son 🤣
Outcast represent! Both Corsairs and Outcasts were the best factions in the game, and I always ended my campaigns with a fully equipped Sabre (Diamondback, etc)
I loved this game SO much. When finally arrived to Omicron Alpha and saw the wrecks of the Hispania, I felt like if reaching the tallest mountain, the sesation of immersion was full and I understood why the Outcasts and Corsairs are like they were, forsaken. I felt symphatised for them, they were not just vulgar criminals for me anymore as the neutral net sold them to me.
5:30:48 - just in case, it's not a random number sequence, it's a FidoNET address. 2 means Europe and USSR, 463 is Kiev, and 531.105 is the ID of certain Valery Gorban (according to the 2003 public list).
Mmm yep this game was stunning at it's release. Even to this day it looks pretty amazing after 20 years. Imagine some remade version where you can land from space on the planet like some modern games and do some exploration on the surface :D
Its pretty crazy how much Star Field took from this game. I forgot how good this game really was. WAY ahead of its time I played this on a Toshiba labtop (Complete POS but state of the art at the time) and it was like experiencing the future.
Looking forward to watching this.... it didn't matter what "build" I did, I could never get past the "German" zone.... And I loved the game - I kept trying. Just... kept failing! So to see the whole story... yeah, I'll grab a few beers and watch ;)
We don't own this base, but we're in good with those that do .... The best part of this game was the radio chatter while you were drifting out in space .. I used to hear it in my sleep

Installed the HD mod and it's amazing. The install options are beautiful. Playing at 4K with font upscaling. Looks like this playthrough.
Still one of my favorite games. The modding community has done amazing things to keep this alive!
Someone needs to make a mod to recreate the aesthetic of this game. I love old sci-fi aesthetic, the bright colors of space, blue UI, the scanning lines, etc
There's a game called Underspace which is a pretty faithful take on Freelancer
I remember absolutely loving this game, and apparently nothing else about it. Thanks for the video.
The travel lanes remind me of the gates in Cowboy Bebop... so cool lol
I played this game hundreds of hours when it came out, even joined a group on a server and made some friends from around the world, probably my first foray into online gaming, at least extensively.
You know how long I was trying to find this again I just could not member the name of it😁 thanks alot.
I still play this game, have my original disc and cardboard disc sleeve! Closest thing I could find to the OG Elite game I played on my C64...yeah I said C64 LoL!
Always nice when Freelancer just pops up on my page. Played it so much! And then even more with some of the large mods.
for anyone reading this, you need to target the spinning red reticle when batteling ship to ship instead of trying to shoot the ship directly the reticle will place the shots where the ship WILL BE
Another pro tip: you can damage the other ships with your guns.
I still rate every single space game compared to this. So far only Elite Dangerous comes close of all that I've played, and Freelancer still has it beat due to the story. Thank you for the nostalgia, TheBaldMan, and the smiles.
What do you think about Everspace 2?
@@TheBaldManIt's good, but I still put it below ED.
SpaceBourne is the best space we got in 2020 imo. Even have better charm than Starfield and really impressive for a game that been made by 1-man developer. Looking forward to SpaceBourne 2 update
And 20 years later Starfield is way behind on many things
My dad was subscribed to PC Gamer the old magazine, They would send out demo disks with five or six game demos. And freelancer was my favorite i was instantly hooked. I'm glad to see people still remember this one it's a hidden gem. I played this, & KOTOR over and over again.
I played this state of the art game on a Tandy 1000TX computer, 640kb Ram, a 40mb hard card, CGA 16 color RGB 640x480 monitor and it rocked on my Harman Kardon desktop speakers. Hell yeah good times.
1:36:14 - there's a pretty big spoiler in the bottom right.
I played this game so much as a kid - thank you for posting!
Ahh, the memories. One of the best games I´ve played.
Freelancer Discovery mod and online server were where Freelancer truly shined for me :)
I would have liked to try discovery. But I didn't have access to the internet back then. I played Frontier Space Mod for days though....I will have it working on my PC
Man... Discovery. That brings back memories. I used to mod for that server. Good times running with the IMG...
Nothing is forever I suppose.
@@aeternusdoleo4531 I was in RHA :)
What was it like? I never played multiplayer
Didn't realise there was an HD mod for this game! Downloading it now! It's funny to me that the Mod is several times bigger than the actual original game, lol.
I always admired the game's story and how much it was influenced by the Star Trek TNG episode "Conspiracy". What a timeless classic.
This is true nostalgia for me. I used to love this game and I totally forgot about it! But what I can't forget was the awesome soundtrack.
At 1:38:00, if you hide behind the jump gate after shooting the navy ships they will spend all their missles and you can kill them easily. Doing so will drop a unique laser repeater that has higher damage for the energy cost than any other gun in its class. A sneaky little easter egg.
Rowlettes revenge it was called.
Man, so many memories with this game... Thanks a lot for uploading! 🥰
Graphics for that years was really unbelievable
thank you for that wonderful wideo, will definitely watch it later. Such a touch of nostalgia... I wish they do games like that now.
5:30:48 - just in case, it's not a random number sequence, it's a FidoNET address. 2 means Europe and USSR, 463 is Kiev, and 531.105 is the ID of certain Valery Gorban (according to the 2003 public list).
Freelancer was awesome back in the day; Freespace 1 & 2 by Volition were also great.
Probably best space game ever. So many good memories
This is such a masterpiece my God.
"Shield failed" - oof, that sound brings back some memories...
We don't own this base, but we're in good with those that do .... The best part of this game was the radio chatter while you were drifting out in space .. I used to hear it in my sleep
the story, atmosphere, scripts, voice acting even the graphic are all the best in those year, there's no such AAA games these days can compitied.
Downloaded this game today and the HD pack thank you for the video this is what I needed to play again it has been years since my last playthrough.
Thanks man! Needed that nostalgia! Keep up the good work! You are awesome!
This game and this engine of this game its so good. We dont have last 20 years game like this Freelancer. This game deserves to be on steam or other platforms for gameplay.
There is a game called everspace 2, I think it is the closest to the way you fly in this game
Still one of my most beloved games. It was so good.
I was really surprised when a found nomad ships again =) In the system where you can buy titan ship. Was so much to investigate after the storyline is over. Thanks to the author.
Wow this brings me back, I know its been a year since upload but i loved this game
Still one of the best, i love that this pearl is still playable on my modern computer. Some community patches, some mods and this beast is cleared for takeoff.
forgot about this game, was a gem
I finished this game a few times back in the day. Once I've completed it in a day as you have.
Thank you for this! I remember my Humpback, shifting diamonds through Rogue space!
Better than Star Citizen + Starfield combined
I loved this game so much! First open-universe game I played and the first MMO I got into! I had a blast on some of those servers!
Thanks for this video!... FREELANCER is one of my favorite game of all time!
I will never understand - why didn't you purchase upgrades of the shields and trusters? And generally a heavy bretonian fighter in between Liberty and Bounty Hunters heavy fighters?
This game is so awesome! I've probably played at least a couple thousand hours ranking up my Corsair faction ranking to good enough levels to get their best ship.
Truly a great game for back in the day and Yes you can literally explore almost forever however I've even landed on some planets where you can't even get a language translation to know what they are asking you!
Yes, that is possible too.
Yes awesome game, I had lots of fun when I was young, a very close game to freelancer is everspace 2. You might lile that aswell
@@TheBaldMan Yep.already have it but it didn't reel me in the way Freelancer did but it's kind of like your first love (speaking of games here peeps, games, gotta spell everything out nowadays, don't want somebody going on a rampage), there is only one you remember and tell stories about forever.
My uncle also loved X3 series of games, but I didn't enjoy them.
He was a big fan of freelancer as well
One of my favorite games to this date. Also had a lot of fun later on with LAN Multiplayer with a friend back in the day.
Are the panels for enemy ship targetting and your ship part of the HD remake?
I'm torn, watching this. On one hand, I *loved* this game and I'm loving seeing this video of it. On the other....I kinda wanna play it again now and it has been so long that I've forgotten the story, and I don't wanna spoil myself.
We need more games like this, simple easy to play. but with modern graphics and a physics engine to rival AAA developers.
Love this game. Best story based space sim ever made.
I just installed it this evening with HD Mod - it looks awesome, vanilla but HD I love it. When it came up I never had the chance to finish it, now I'm on it 😂
Reminds me Privateer which I liked pretty much back then. With better graphics and better story. Well, Chris Roberts was producer for Privateer, so it's not a miracle (I hope his Star Citizen will be completed someday in this decade as I am way over 50 and hope to play it :) ). Maybe I should play this Freelancer instead. Thanks for the video.
Loved this game. Classic! 👍
Game still looks great!!!
oh man this game is freakin amazing
