      I see this just as a symptom of nostalgia because so much is going wrong in the country and the conservative party.
      The rot set in when Johnson became PM, he was so below what is needed in terms of moral character and competence to be PM that his departure and the state in which he left the country was entirely predictable.
      Let's not forget, it wasn't a single issue that brought down Johnson, he just ran out of road. Even as his cabinet was resigning quicker than he could replace them he tried to cling on to power. Things would have got so much worse if he'd stayed on - we're just living through his legacy.
      A grubby little man that symbolises how far Britain has fallen.

    The Australian lady is wrong on this occasion because Johnson was found to have lied to Parliament, he would have had to resign anyway. When the MP's sacked him it was because they knew he had completely messed up the running of No 10, it was an issue of competence not a political ousting. He couldn't effectively lead the Party. After the events of Partygate and Pincher a big enough majority of the MP's within the party wouldn't follow him and it doesn't matter how you dress it up, a Prime Minister's ability to govern stems from being able to lead his own party and if Boris Johnson were to come back neither he or his MP's would be able to trust each other again and it would collapse much quicker second time round.

    I don’t think I’ve heard anyone who’s worked with Boris rate him as a good PM. What Zahawi & others mean is that he was a good campaigner to win elections. I think however, that’s been extinguished it the end - everyone fell for the hope & bluster & believed him. Most people just wouldn’t believe him now after Brexit, Covid, levelling up, the lies, contracts & scandals etc. Somehow, many Tories haven’t caught up with fact of how much many ordinary people absolutely loathe Boris out there & blame him for what’s gone wrong in last few years.

  • @tessjuel
    @tessjuel 21 день тому +3

    The problem with Boris Johnson was that he has no qualifications and no substance whatsoever. He makes lots of promises but he has never ever delivered on any of them. And no, he didn't get Brexit done either. More than four years later there are still tons of details that need to be sorted out. This has nothing to do with political ideologies, that can always be discussed. What Johnson lacks, is sheer competence. (So do Truss and Sunak and all the other prominent Tories but that's another matter.)
    Many people were taken in by Boris Johnson's boasting but there's the old saying: You can fool all the people some time and you can fool some people all the time but you can't fool all the people all the time. By the time he was forced to resign, most people had realised he is all talk and no trousers. He was already way past his "best before" date and the only way from there was down.

    • @pauln6803
      @pauln6803 21 день тому

      Sorry but getting "brexit done" was leaving the EU, which we have done.
      The reason why we are still in negotiations is purely because Johnson, under pressure from Farage and the ERG who had lent him their support, deselected anyone who wouldn't swear blind allegiance to a "hard brexit", which meant stone walling EU negotiations until the last minute and the most bare bones deal we could get that would avoid the complete chaos predicted in the Yellowhammer and Black Swan reports.
      Massive deregulation, along with keeping the opaque tax avoidance routes offered by the City of London was at the core of what the Tory right wanted out of brexit, but that isn't compatible with what the EU would accept in a tarrif and quota deal from a large economy on their doorstep.
      Public support for brexit would also collapse if the Tory right were to come clean about their plans for imposing their ideology of low tax, low regulation; slashing workers rights, food, environmental standards and letting the city play fast and loose.
      The very reason we are still negotiating things like the Windsor framework and other tweaks is because the ERG and other headbangers expected Johnson to ditch everything he had signed up to, putting as much distance between the UK and the EU as possible.
      To this day I'm not sure if Johnson was genuinely expected to be the ERG's champion or just a useful idiot.
      If brexit is what you voted for, then you got what you asked for.
      There's no test drive, no trial period when it comes to voting for major constitutional change.

This privileged public school boy with his falsely transcendent belief in his own ability & a remarkable willingness to walk away from the consequences of his actions without a thought of, or care for, the damage he has done to others should be forever held as a yardstick. He resigned due to pressure within his own party. A few weeks before hand he'd manage to hold off a rebellion from his MP's through a no confidence vote (and though they lost they weren't a small number). He then would later receive mass resignations from amongst the loyalists who supported him in the no confidence vote and had ministers (again from those who voted to keep him) to then publicly call on him resign.
      From Boris Johnson's point of view over a third of his party voted for him to leave then about another third of his party who had kept him in power were openly rebelling and calling for him to resign.
