    Interesting. The gypsies used to gather in my hometown. My mom was a nurse at a local hospital. When the queen came into Emergency, the police had to be called as the family swarmed the hospital and stole everything that wasn't bolted down. I will never forget that. How times have changed.

    She was held in very high regard of her Tribe. Such an interesting story. It is curious that they waited so long to lay her to rest 🤔 Thank you for taking Us along ✌️🌹

    My Great grandma was not a gypsy, but was held in high regard with the gypsy community.
    She was very kind to them,
    She lived on a large farm, and when the gypsies would come around she always gave them a couple chickens, fresh eggs and milk for the kids.
    They never stole from her. They would often leave her trinkets as a thanks and even do some chores for her.
    I wish i had paid more attention to the historical stories that the old folks would tell!
    Thanks for this story!

    In Europe, gypsy graves are very colorfully decorated and the dead are lovingly remembered.

    Probably unburied so long in order to notify as many members of the tribe as possible, combined with the frozen ground over the winter.

    I'm familiar with "Gypsy" trucking, they say Independent nowadays. But my Dad and family used the phrase back when, but eventually he and my Uncle switched to being company drivers. What a weight lifted off them both!!
    REAL Gypsies, I've never come across. The name Stanley for me has only come up in tools or automobiles that did well even against gas-burning cars of the early 1900s! 😊

    Really cool Thanks for sharing. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Gypsy. I grew up in Savannah. No shortage of characters there. I’d think I would’ve seen one. Guess they didn’t come south.

      @Whittdocs  Місяць тому +1

      I haven’t found the culture too much in the south. Well, not at all that I can think of. But I’ve been to Savannah a few times. Some beautiful cemeteries there.

    I don't know if this lady could be related to me in someway, but I'm supposed to be related to President William Henry Harrison and President Benjamin Harrison through my grandmother's side of the family. My Great grandparents came to New Orleans from France sometime in the 1800's. I know for a fact I'm related to Robert E. Lee. Your videos are very interesting, please keep making them.

    • @Whittdocs
      @Whittdocs  Місяць тому +1

      Thanks so much. I’ve found Harrison in my tree too and I have reason to believe that I may be related to the same Harrison’s. I haven’t been able to actually connect it yet but I’ve found some evidence of it.

    I don't know much about gypsy culture, why would the paper mention no demonstrations and a rumor going around that her possessions would be burned.

    • @Whittdocs
      @Whittdocs  Місяць тому

      I thought the same thing. I’m
      Not sure why that would be mentioned specifically.

    • @Sandraella1982
      @Sandraella1982 23 дні тому

      I hope this helps explain a little bit : Some Gypsy and Traveller groups have a tradition of burning the belongings of someone who has died as a sign of respect. The possessions are believed to go with the deceased to the afterlife, and help their spirit leave the world. The tradition included burning the wagon and belongings after the owner's death during the 19th and 20th centuries. The deceased's possessions, jewelry, china, or money would be left to the family, while the rest, including the wagon, would be destroyed
