I think there is a hidden Midwest theme here of driving in the left lane at all times regardless of speed or passing.
Passing lane is only a thing in Massachusetts, Maine, and Alabama. Everywhere else, it’s slow lane and fast lane.
I live in Missouri was just pulled over for posting up in the fast lane 😂 seriously... didn't know it was that big of a deal. My bad occifer.
I grew up in 70s/80s, missing summer road trip Dad won't turn on AC cause it wastes gas, mom won't roll down windows cause people will think they can't afford AC.
😂😂
“Where’s my readers at?” As they’re holding her hair back. Lol
The license plate game was fun on a long road trip. I remember finding all 50 states on our roadtrip from Oregon to Colorado. Yes, somebody had their car shipped in from Hawaii believe it or not. I remember my Dad gifting me $20 for my accomplishment.
"You're in the wrong state for Christ's sakes" 😂
Considering they're filming in North Carolina... 😏
Oh jeez yous guys... It's for "Cripes sakes" don't ya know.
As a girl who had to ride in a van with my whole family every christmas from Cincinnati to Chicago all through the 90's this video is validating.
pshh, try three boys across the back seat of a sedan from Maine to Milwaukee!
As a guy from Michigan hearing Charlie say "You wanna know what the Lion's Den is?" brought so much back. I literally remember asking my dad what it was and what "Adult Books" were. I believe he said "Nothing you need to know about."
Fellow Michigander here as well. I can confirm this is completely accurate.
😂😂😂
What's the Lion's Den? A dirty book store?
@@jamespfitzNothing you need to know about
@@jamespfitz i think it's a gentleman's club? nebraskan here so could be wrong
For me it was- shut up and look out ur window! While inhaling the second hand smoke because the windows were only down a quarter inch. The good old days!😂
@fromontario6954 And you're still with us! How's the cough?😺
Oh that sounds repulsive. Sorry you had to deal with that.
Forgot when they arguing in the backseat and you tell one to look out one window and the other to look out the other
Her “accent” is even more pronounced than his! Love her 😍
THAT is the only thing that my ears focused on other than the flirting. Don't know what a bower/bauer(?) is but somebody sounds like he's getting lucky. Goodness gracious if that isn't the quintessential Midwestern accent, I don't know what it is. Take out the Southern drawl and talk more in the upper throat it sounds like.
I assumed it was her native language. 😆
@@themoonandstars1 It probably is. That’s why I put the word in quotes (couldn’t think of another way to say it). Native or no, it’s super-charming ❤️
She sounds like she’s from Minnesota.
@@KunaiKrazy "Left bower" is a term in the card game euchre. It's because she told her husband "if you play your cards right" so he made the joke of give me the left bower as if they were actually playing a card game.
"Helicopter in the car" 😂😂😂😂 brought back so many memories lol
The eyes in the rear view mirror
😂 yeah, that got me too. It's like, all you could see!!!! 😂😂😂
My parents were Polish New Englanders...who probably belonged in the Midwest 😅 thank you for helping me relive the magic
Can confirm, long car rides in the 90s were a painful blend of fun and pure hell
Weird how that worked huh?
Same in the 70s.
Is that AnnMarie, the Holderness Family's NC neighbor ?? 😀😁🤣🤣
Yes!!
"Of course it is!"
No, yeah.
Yeah, Charlie has collaborated with the Holderness family a few times. Not as much as he works with Dude Dad, though.
The inexplicably irritable father who acts like he doesn't even want to be on a family vacation in the first place lmao that's a staple
My dad would wait till we peed in the bottle then stop at the next bathroom for himself.
Ha! Classic dad
One of the perks of driving.
😂
This could only be more true if you had found a 90's Pontiac Trans Sport van to be driving instead of a modern Toyota.
That was my childhood- road trips from Missouri to where the family lived in Wisconsin. Occasionally a trip to Florida. Great times lol.
One trip in the early 60s, my mom gave us pennies and challenged us with, "Who can make their pennies the shiniest?" I remember crouching on the floor in the back seat with my brother, rubbing and rubbing my penny on the carpet. LOL
A little farther west into Minnesota and the Uffda’s would be just raining down!
Should have borrowed an 80s to 90s car. The big screen kills it lol
“Kids you should probably know how to read a map.”
My stepmother would chastise me all the time for this, then I turned 18 in 2005 and I started doing long distance trips. I had to rely on Mapquest for all of three years before smartphones came out and I had GPS.
God we should make a bingo sheet with all these things on it, just imagine your mom going “let’s play the qwiet game” and your sister yells BINGO
So true!
Dear Charlie, can you make an instructional video about how to discuss weather/elevator talk for midwesterners? I’m so confused bc they love to talk about weather but get offended if I chime in with an “it’s cold” or “hope the wind eases up”. ???
What temperature was it when you complained that it was cold? Midwesterner here and if it's like 30-50 degrees out there, it's not cold. Cold is like temps under 10 or so. Also…it's always windy….or super windy. It's really only notable when it's not.
"We're headin' north - how far off can we be?" OMG This is too real. 🤣
LMAO!! 😂
Jeepers cripes alfrighty, I used to always play the 18 wheeler game lol
Good to see Mrs. McCallister is still in the acting game!
Thanks for the video Charlie ! Please consider bringing back occasional updates of the Manitowoc Minute !
Charlie never fails to make me smile.
This brought a smile to my life. Spot on
It’s funny how much of this carries over to the 2000’s for road trips too lol.
As an Amazon truck goes by in the opposite direction… haha, not back then…
Loved the Amazon truck going in the other direction at the end of the video. Love Charlie and Marie!
As an 80s kid - like this but picture a station wagon with all the kids in sleeping bags in the back and non stop fighting. 12 hour road trips upstate - who else played I spy with my little eye??
Having grown up as an only child with stoner parents, I can't relate, but I did get invited to accompany friends on road trips like these once in a while, and some of this is definitely accurate. The "let's play who can stay quiet the longest" was one that some of my friends' parents would do pretty often, and also the weird cringy flirtation when they thought the children couldn't hear them.
I had a friend who’s parents wouldn’t give them any fluids starting the night before their trip so they wouldn’t stop. They drove from Michigan to Gatlinburg, Tennessee without stopping once.
That's horrible 😂
Horrible, but clearly effective 😂
Never realized my german parents must have midwestern ancestors.
Charlie is the best! ❤
Charlie and AnneMarie together is a winner!
Who can be the quietest, heard that a time or two 😂
My family had the empty Snapple bottle for the number 1 for my 2 younger brothers on road trips.
They are really funny together!
What's this noise you kids listen to these days, Neyervahnna? Steely Dan, now there's some real music!
Ugh..four kids crammed in the back seat of a Chevy Malibu with vinyl seats and no air conditioner..oh the memories 😁
😂😂😂😂Thank you for this!!!!!
I found their floppy discs and the confusing video games. LMAO Straight up a roadtrip conversation modeled after my parents in Northern illinois.
Haha! The floppy disc comments. 🤣
Hilarious& accurate! Except for Amazon 18-wheeler which wouldn'tve been around in 90s 😂
Lol. I love the accents.
Oh god my dad knowing the directions, then not knowing them and missing an exit. Also my mom would buy so many snacks, but then we would get yelled at if we ate them at home before the trip. And we would yelled at at if we ate them during the trip
HELL IS REAL!!! You are in Ohio 😂😂😂
The gameman comment 🤣🤣
I love charlie
😂😆 asking where her glasses are when they're on her head 👏
These videos are aways the best 😂
Dont be playin with your rod on the deck all day… never heard that before. 😅😂
MAPQUEST DIRECTIONS!! IN 2024 LMAO
My parents always had Pearl Jam and Stone Temple Pilots playing
Sounds a LOT more tolerable than some! 😅
@@KOKO-uu7yd yeah my parents weren’t corny
The Lions Den though...
lol I can tell this was filmed in North Carolina, probably on I-40 near Raleigh
Yes! 😂
UNC-Pembroke sign… It was filmed on 95.
Charlie..
Please tell me you had the joy of watching Life with Louie.. cartoon by Louie Anderson. They lived in Wisconsin. Tell yer folks I said hi!!
I seen Michigan in there hahaha. Lions den oh thats a good one its a real Bar in Pontiac,MI on M-59 I don't know if there still open but its a real bar.
I looked it up. Lion’s Den is an adult video store.
@@ferretyluv there was a bar called the Lions den it most have closed.
I see you got the Little Lady a Motor Carrier Atlas. The most complete guide to local and state laws. Some fish for Walleye , others catch Walleye.
OFC my mind went straight to hard disks 😂🤓
Just remember, hard disks started floppy.
Yup - so true😂
The quiet game was called little red schoolhouse in our car.
This is triggering for 90s kids 😅
This was pretty much my car rides in the 00’s
“Game Man”
Peeing in a bottle in the backseat is an great generational tradition that every American should get to experience 😂
Thanks for coming to Ohio!
Charliee 😃
Charlie on trip to see a Bears game?😂
The license plate game was some malarkey. Who in Gods great Earth found Alaska!?!
Or Hawaii
I’ve seen one in Alabama before….how in the actual hell it made it down here I have no clue☠️
There are about a dozen Alaska plates around where I live in Virginia. College town, though.
Found Alaska. Not Hawaii. 🙂
@@tommiegirl2441Believe it or not, I've found it twice. In Illinois! Yes, I know what you think of us. Shut up, Charlie.
Awwwwww the good old days.....eh? 😊
Charlie I’ve got a great skit idea for you. “Every dad when they borrow a pressure washer”. Start off pressure washing one thing then you’re doing the gutters the picnic table then the kids power wheel. Couple joke in there about an electric one sucks and you want a gas powered one because it works better.
That was so funny .
True bro
We used to play Punch Buggy. 🤣
We called it slug bug in the west coast lol.
oh man, the left bower, I'm gonna use that one🤣
What does it mean?
Weird how when you're from the Midwest, that accent can be quite enjoyable. I'll let you all figure out exactly what that means.
already w video
This is so my grandpa
This time when you roll the window down spill out your piss!! 😂😂😂
But stick the bottle far enough out that it doesn't blow back into the car!
A pee bottle works for the males, but what about the females?
I think it’s assuming that it’s two boys in the backseat.
@@ferretyluv Could be.
Watched this video on mute since I'm listening to my yellow Sony cd walkman.
She has a 2024 maps, they still make those. LOL
😂 you don't have to be from the Midwest or live in the midwest to experience any or all of that😂😂😂
Oh my god do I remember this 😅😅😅😅😅😅😅
When I was a kid, all 4 of us kids rode in the back of the truck. No one wanted to sit in the middle on the bench seat.
Is this going down I-35 to Duluth? If so, I’ve been down that road several times! 😊
Road trips with parents were like this in the 1970s, too.
God. Triggered me from here to Pluto.
I never pass up a video with Ann Marie.
Dad? Mom? ❤😂❤
😂 floppy disk lol I was a teenager in the 90's (class of 96) so I love 90's references. Sometimes I want to go back actually! 😂
before waze there was mapquest
The Lion's den seems like a wholesome family time zoo to go to.
There is a nature preserve by that name near Milwaukee I think. But there’s also an adult store in Green Bay by that name. The first ones for family fun time, the second one is for fun time to make a family. 😜
@@knowyourlove5613 Thanks for clearing that up. I'm from Wisconsin and I usually immediately understand all of Charlie's references but I never heard of The Lion's Den, lol
There are a number of them just off I- 41 between Green Bay and Milwaukee. Don't have to look far. Been there a long time.
Flashbacks to my road trips to Wisconsin to visit my kin folk, my dad always got lost in St. Cloud, MN 😥
I totally love the wife
