Iverson has 4 scoring titles, behind Jordan and Wilt, tied with Durant and Gervin, top 3. Three steals titles. Played 914 games, 71 playoff games, 1 Finals appearance. Won MVP in '01, but never finished top 3 in the voting outside of that. He played 41 minutes a game.
CP3 has 5 assist titles and 6 steals titles. He's behind Stockton and Kidd in both all time assists and steals, top 3 in both categories. He'll catch Kidd in both if he keeps playing. Played 1272 games, 149 playoff games, 1 Finals appearance. CP3 got 2nd in MVP voting in '08 and 3rd in '12, so he was close twice. He played 34 minutes a game.
I think it's a good question and not as automatic as people make it.

Both are personal favourites of mine so I love the comparison.
CP played with far more skilled players and consistently deeper teams than Iverson. I give Iverson the nod for being able to take over games by himself.
CP is a far better true PG, but AI was the better player who could be effective without other offensive options.
Iverson with 4 scoring titles at 5'11 - The same as KD at 6'10, and more than Kobe and Tmac is insane to me. AI could pass the ball really well (he was a top 5 passer once he moved back to PG 2004/2005 ), play passing lanes like no other, hustle for loose balls etc. He just played with a different fire.

AI could ONLY be effective without other offensive options. History has shown that when AI plays with other elite offensive weapons (Carmelo) his game does not get stepped up significantly. When the Nuggets traded AI to the Pistons for Chauncy Billups, the Nuggets got better and went deeper in the playoffs and had better metrics, and the Pistons got worse. AI was an elite volume scorer with limited help, ie, he had a very high floor, but he had a low ceiling in terms of team offense. CP3's offense was a lot better for the team and honestly not even that significantly worse individually, he just got 10 dimes per game. CP3 is also astronomically better defensively in general.
For me it isn't particularly close -- CP3 is a better point guard on teams where he isn't the only offensive option

You can debate who is the better player, and I think a majority would probably say Iverson (I don't think I would). But judging by careers, I don't think it's really close. Chris Paul played in 149 playoff games, Iverson played in 71 playoff games. Chris Paul made more cumulative money in terms of strictly salary, excluding endorsements (about $330 million vs $155 million). Neither one won a championship. CP3 had more All-Star selections, more All-NBA selections. Iverson made the playoffs 8 times out of 14 seasons. Chris Paul made the playoffs 15 times out of 19 seasons. Iverson won 6 playoff series, Chris Paul won 11. Chris Paul's career regular season record is 817-455 (64.2%), which is the 17th most wins of all-time. Iverson's career regular season record is 466-448 (51.0%). CP3's playoff record is 76-73 (51.0%), Iverson's is 30-42 (41.7%). Iverson received MVP votes 8 years, CP3 received MVP votes 11 years. Iverson won 1 MVP (only time he finished in the top 3), CP3 has 0 MVP's, but has finished 2nd and 3rd in MVP voting.
Listening to this discussion, which is supposed to be about who had the better career, not who was the better player in the abstract, probably 85% of the talking was about who was the better player, not who had the better career.

Well cp3 was the better player offensively and defensively but AI was more dominant through straight will and I’ll give AI the handle and attacking the basket better. But cp3 just way more well rounded with high IQ

AI's handle is amazing, but honestly, it's not that much better than CP3's handle. CP3 can dribble in traffic just as good as anyone and his mid-range is wet-wet. AI is way better finishing at the rim, though, so he clears there

There was a few years in the early 2000s when A.I. was considered the best player along with Shaq. People forget that A.I. was considered better than Kobe for years. CP3 is great but he was never arguably the best. That’s the difference

I just wanna say though so I dont get hated and ripped on here, Allen Iverson’s top game was so damn unbelievable I almost dont believe some of the things I saw. He was unbelievable. Those who didnt get to see him live, it was like watching Barry Sanders, Deion, Bo Jackson, AI was a unicorn

same here Iverson is my all time goat and I'm 31. Cp3 is more efficient and a better 3 ball shooter. But I'm sorry Iverson is awesome 😎 and influential. He had a time when he was one of the 3 to 5 best players in basketball 🏀 and the world. Cp3 was always thought of as one of the NBA's best 1 to 3 best PGS for a long time. Difference right there 👀

    These debates should be rephrased.
Who was the most impactful in their role ? Iverson or Paul.
    also,
    fans with the stats …metrics.
    especially across different era’s (RULE CHANGES}
    decontextualize the argument.
Metrics can’t factor in the difficulty of scoring in Iverson’s era. (86-04) hand checking was legal. He retired in 2011, before the implementation of the rule changes specifically designed to assist smaller players to showcase their skills. ~ Adam Silver said this, not me.
And before the gather step rule which allows players additional opportunities with their moves not available to Iverson.
Chris Paul (05-present) has played his entire career without hand check rules.
And the bulk of his career under the offensive friendly, load management era.
Advantage to CO3 all day in stats metrics.
But did he have more of an impact on his team ;WINS and losses,
Was Iverson as a the primary star and scorer better in his role
Than CP3 as an elite traditional point guard?

CP3 was set up with a better team around him they were just young AI wasn't setup the same so he had to be the man score more then cp3 plus he took his team to the finals against shaq and kobe when they were rolling the entire league plus he was mvp that year

Iverson has been 2 the finals. Iverson has been league mvp. Iverson has multiple (4) scoring titles. Iverson retired with the 2nd highest playoff scoring average in league history.
    I don’t think there’s a comparison in who’s career was better.
