  • A little break from jewellery making, I wanted to design and create something different from my current run of jewellery making, so I created a circular stained-glass panel and drift wood stand. Some of the glass that I have used is over 100 years old and some of it is from our old cottage home near Aberporth, west Wales. I saved the special textured glass when we replaced the lovely, but drafty, old windows. Everything you see is handmade. I made the steel support frame from 10-millimetre square steel section. Once I bent steel to suite the size of the panel, I brazed on the three holders and I then polished and ‘heat blued’ the steel. I didn’t want to simply paint the frame as that would just be ordinary, I wanted to make something totally unique, something very special. There are 36 pieces of glass in the panel. I gathered the driftwood from the beach at Aberaeron, after the high tides and storm in early 2024.I can’t imagine where in the world the drift wood would have come from but as I work with these materials, I can’t help but wonder what ever happened in the cottage where the glass came from and what creatures lived in the tree that will now reside on someone’s window cill. I would like to think that this panel will be handed down over the years for many years to come. Should you ever come to own it, I hope that you find this video that tells you a little bit more about the piece. I also hope that this video will encourage folks to be creative and to make beautiful things for themselves and others to enjoy.
Pleased leave a comment telling me where you are in the world, and subscribe to get other creative videos.
    Kind regards . . . Andy

Hi Rick, yes they say new challenges are good for your mind but just getting my head around some of the new software that I'm looking at is like an intelligence test for the mentally bewildered. Keep on having fun my friend and keep on making and fixing stuff. Kind regards . . . Andy

Hi Greg. I was looking forward to seeing it in the shop window for a while and watching folks reaction to it, but it sold too quickly!! (in on Friday - SOLD on Monday!! I'm distracted again Greg, I'm installing an extract system in my workshop, but of course I'm not doing it the easy way and going through the nearest outside wall, that's too windy so it gets complicated but it'll be effective. All the best my friend and adviser. Regards. . . Andy

Thanks John, I do like a bit of a challenge but I just love to make things. I usually plan things out so that there are not too many surprises but sometimes they develop as they progress and I have to think on my feet. Kind regards . . . Andy

It's great that your art is liked and brings material benefits.
I like watching different creators create or repair things, it's much more interesting than news.
I probably won't make a stained glass window, but who knows, maybe I will. But I have a plan on how to decorate the toilet door in my house. I would like to make a window in the style of a ship's porthole. The originals are terribly expensive. Under this window there would be a sign saying that the captain wish all strong winds.

    Hello Andy!
I used to watch your videos often a decade ago or so. Particularly, the electronics related videos where my favourite. But for one reason or other, as life changed, I had stopped doing so. Tonight I caught myself wandering, how Andy is doing, so I looked you up. And I am very glad that see that you have not misplaced your joy of creating and learning!
As you mentioned in your video, that you would like to know from where your viewers are watching, I thought I will mention it - I am watching you from Latvia.

Hi and greetings to you in. It is nice to know where folks are watching. We all live in our own little world, maybe often without realising just how connected we really are. yes life changes and hobbies move on, but I still love to design and make things and to share what I am doing, in the genuine hope that it will help others. I often turn to UA-cam to resolve a problem, and I can usually find the answers that I'm looking for.
I hope that my videos, old and new will continue to help and entertain folks for many years to come.
All the very best to you my friend. Kind regards . . . Andy (on the west coast of Wales in the UK)
