Ex-Evo and GTi owner here. Tired of Turbo lag, 17 mpg, high insurance, premium fuel, synthetic only oil, high maint cost. Now i own a Veloster non-turbo and have ZERO issue with the performance. 8.5 to 60 is plenty unless i go to a track. Too much falic envy going on in the automotive world...
You make an excellent point because most people under the age of 25 cannot afford a new car and usually buy something used or receive a hand-me-down vehicle from a relative. This is why you see a lot of empty-nesters (people over 50) driving vehicles like the Kia Soul and Scion xB -- they are on a budget and want new, affordable, spacious and economical. Car companies have their target demographics, but the people who ultimately buy them are usually different from that target.
Excellent point regarding the Focus ST. So many of my Detroit colleagues have been raving about the Focus ST (much like they did about the Regal GS), but I call that the Notre Dame syndrome. Everybody wants them to win, but the reality is that Alabama (and in the case of cars, Mazda, VW, Subie & Scion) are just better. The Veloster is a well-contented vehicle and I have no issues with it. However, I just don't think it (or the Turbo) is World Class yet like the GTI, FR-S or MazdaSpeed3.
Test drove one of these not too long ago. Never put a friend in the back seat unless they are very short (5'8 or less). Granted, this will be YOUR car if you get it but I personally want my buddies to be comfortable too.
Actually, I was 100% correct. The Veloster is available in 3 trim levels and for each level, buyers can choose a manual or automatic transmission for a total build matrix of 6. (lol). The 3 packages are BASE, STYLE (which adds $2,000 to the base) and TECH (which adds another $2,000 to the STYLE Package). Transmissions are not a "trim level" but packages are. Do some research before being so critical. And if you can shoot a better video, send it to me and I'll post it. I'll even pay you.
The tC RS goes for the same price as a Veloster Turbo. So if it's just a trim level, why pay that for a trim level when you can get a better engine for the same money?
I am the owner & test drive editor for TheDriversSeat and we produce the video reviews for AutoByTel. I also own HopsAndGears which has a variety of content, including automotive. Hope that answers your question. Thanks for watching.
Why is everyone always demanding a turbo? NA engins are so much more fun to drive. Tubo's only make acceleration feel soooo cosmetic. NA requires the driver to know when to shift to max out. I've been driving my Veloster for almost 10 months now. With 140 hp standard it isn't very fast (not slow either). I had it tuned for 3000 EUR to 180 hp and it keeps up with most hot hatches now.
In response to leaf runner I emailed my salesman and he said I am most likely to get the turbo instead. Seeing how the production starts in may which is just a week off pretty much so marathon blue turbo is what I'm getting now either way in excited!!
Love the design inside out, but I test drove this car at the LA Auto Show, the road feedback is not there, the steering wheel felt rubbery, and that's my only disappointment.
I'll hold out for the turbo and then stack it up against the Ford Fiesta ST. The fact that I'd consider a subcompact kinda startles me, but some of these things are starting to look like fun, almost as if the original Volkswagen GTi is finally coming back.
@crammage But will crush like a tin can with modern crash standards, leaving you dead or seriously hurt when modern cars will have you just walking. Yeah, but you didnt think of that now did you?
0-60 in 9 seconds is crap considering a 1996 nissan nx2000 went 0-60 in under 7 with a 2.0 i4 got 20-30+ mpg and a 1.6 in same time but that was 15 + years ago and got 30-40 mpg
Have you driven a Mazda 3? The torque steer is absolutely ridiculous, not to mention Mazdas are too much of a kids car. If you're in the market for an upper tier hot hatch, buy an ST, or a GTI.
@ConceptVBS safe enough , id rather drive a $2000 car thats faster , and sportier hand even gets better mileage than this that may be overly safe with blind spots i drive a 86 subaru wagon and those are indestructible , i was at a wrecking yard and there was 2 other cars stacked on top of one and you could still open each door , ( and the doors are hard top ( no pillers )
We had a 2013 base for about 3 weeks before we returned it, you can be on the highway and mash the gas pedal and the car will just sit there like a retarded cat for about 4-5 secs then shoot off. GET THE TURBO OR LOOK FOR ANOTHER CAR! unless this is for Grandma and shes in a small town with slow traffic.
Hey, its something for a kid that is starting out on his/her first car. I heard the comments about the car being slow which is true. Heck I see young kids looking for speed the case today is Gas mileage (39 mpg) that's awesome for a kid with pocket change. All you fast freaks get real this car wasn't built for speed. If you want speed, finish college get rich and get a real car. Something that's not American made. YES i said it nothing we make here touches foreign cars.
......all i was noting was how you said 'automatic' or 'six speed'....I am one to call manual transmissions 'manual transmissions', not 'six speeds', so i thought you accidentally referred to automatic twice. now i know people call it 'six speed', so you are right...... if you want to watch my videos i'd love for you to stop by my channel and take a look, it would be much appreciated!
@@Qarcass oh um well I rarely look in descriptions anymore. Too many people ebeg. But yeah with most millennials pushing 40 I'm getting tired of people saying that it's the Young generation. And awesome review man. You gave a great overview of the car.

When did Mark Cuban start doing car reviews?
🤣🤣
@remelsheikh
You mean "sales" and "in the US". It was in production a long time ago.
I'm pretty sure you can also bend the driver's seat to go into the back seat as well. I believe they made the 3rd door to make it more convenient.

He sounds a lot like a salesman, but he sometimes gives a few very usefull bits of critical information
how about trunk space??
@ConceptVBS those cars are safe and modern from 90's not 70's
Test drove one of these not too long ago. Never put a friend in the back seat unless they are very short (5'8 or less). Granted, this will be YOUR car if you get it but I personally want my buddies to be comfortable too.
rear door is small 0:50 ? 3:29 is kinda hard to get off

2:27 is he either hauling axx or smiling or really hanging on a car without brakes?

How many automotive review channels do you work for?
@maybach902006 22K. 23K would be fully loaded with the Automatic, but this has the manual

Turbo charge is next. This version is a just introducing version as usually for stepping up upgrade marketing.
@remelsheikh
The Veloster concept started back in 2007. Long before a Juke concept even emerged.
Love the design inside out, but I test drove this car at the LA Auto Show, the road feedback is not there, the steering wheel felt rubbery, and that's my only disappointment.

@remelsheikh
This came out before the Juke.
Did not know Lou Ferigno had his own car show..........
@justlearntolove717 good, mine arrives in 20 days.... i think
@crammage
90's cars are not safe compared to cars from 2011.
I work in the auto industry my friend.

There's a Scion tC RS, same class, Veloster Turbo "rapes" it in performance, interior, add ons, and as a car in general.

160-200 HP range would be perfect for the car. I agreed with the host, for a nice sports car the power is way too low.
AH!!! Mine has been ordered I'm getting the tech package. Marathon Blue
@arashn89 Both! He's big - and the car is small......
i was goin to get this car but the engine sucks very slow but good in turns i went with 2012 elantra and i love it
@ConceptVBS safe enough , id rather drive a $2000 car thats faster , and sportier hand even gets better mileage than this that may be overly safe with blind spots

Liking those wheels
either this guy is huge or the steering wheel is the size of a cookie.
