  • Just a few snippets of the weather Libby and John encountered on the journey. Quite often the camera is the last thing on the list when the weather is big, but we at least captured some of what it's like.
In 2018/19 Libby and John rowed the Atlantic Ocean from Portimao to Antigua, the crossing took 91 days. Libby set the record of becoming the youngest female to row the Atlantic in a mixed pair.
Completed in a pure rowing boat, i.e. no auto pilot, no dagger board, no wind catching design elements, not a blowing boat.

Well done john! Loving the journey. That looks my old boat Gurkha Spirit? Is it?

Hi Nick, congratulation on the crossing (great cause). Not Gurkha Spirit unfortunately, She's the second incarnation of my original boat Socks, both built by Jamie Fabrizio, a brilliant boat builder. From what I can see online Gurkha Spirit looks to be an Adkin design but with flatter sections making up the aft cabin (possibly because they were mainly ply construction at the time). Gurkha Spirit and Socks are both Phil Morrison designs, Socks II was built for me in 2014 so is just the latest evolution of the design at that time. Seems now everyone wants to row in blowing boats which is a shame, Socks II is an incredible craft, built to an amazing standard. I'm just about to post a video of her as I get ready for an attempt on the Indian Ocean, should be up later today.
