- Ghostbusters: The Video Game, edited and compressed into a 3 hour 'movie' edition.
Fully re-recorded and edited from scratch with all real-time assets in true 1080p via the PC version of the game at max settings and with 2x Super Sampling Anti Aliasing.
No upscaled 720p console version here!
Set two years after the second movie and featuring the voices of the original cast in one of Harold Ramis' final roles before his death, Dan Aykroyd has described the video game as "Essentially the third movie."
This is a remake of my original movie cut with a handful of additional important scenes which were conspicuously absent, but still more streamlined than the new 'extended' cut.
Please note that some cutscenes, specifally all of those that are letterboxed, are in fact pre-rendered CGI videos.
These videos were rendered at 1280x540 by the developers and so have only been upscaled with some very slight cropping at the edges to fill a bit more of a 16:9 frame.
Some scenes have had their audio adjusted to try and improve on the worst of the lip syncing problems and various other tweaks to dialogue audio and colour balance.
It's not perfect, but I've tried to make this the highest quality 'movie' adaptation of GhostBusters: The Video Game available on the internet as of 2016. - Фільми й анімація
Please note: The reason this is called "Remastered" is because its the second time I made a 'movie adaptation' of the game, and its a massive quality leap over the first one. This was long before an actual remaster of the game was announced.

Not really. Ultimately, there isn't very much difference between the original PC release and the Remaster. It's a great boost for console players who only played the 720p Xbox 360 version or the not-even-HD PS3 version, but its still using the original textures and 3D models. That's why its so cheap, half the price of a normal new release, despite being a brand like Ghostbusters.
@@BrySkye tbf they did lose like 90% of the source code, so that's why. Well say I did a version of your video but using the re released version as the basis of the footage. Would you be fine with that?
I wasn't complaining about it =p This is to be expected when the original studio that made the game ceased to exist years ago. I'm just glad the game is available to buy again so more people can enjoy it.
I'm also kind of glad that this video hasn't been made obsolete by it either, imo.
I'm just saying that, since this was made using the PC version, the remaster isn't going to really offer all that much, if any, further visual enhancement over what's here.
You can absolutely make your own 'movie' adaptation if you want, but in my opinion, it'd be better to do your completely own take on it, rather than a 'version' of this, with your own structure of edits and cuts.

Murray is definitely the most phoned in performance. Guy just coasted through it. You can tell everyone else actually loves this.
He keeps doing this deep voice trying to sound charming and cool ends up mumbling a lot of his lines. Dan akroyd was definitely the right choice to teach gameplay since he always took this subject seriously and smart of the game developers to lend some of the instructions to Harold Ramis too. Ernie Hudson is given so much more to do and sounds louder and just funnier than he did in the movies. Alyssa Milano sounds like a talking baby. It’s interesting to hear them all be in character, game was definitely the best medium for this part of the story

Aykroyd just doesn't like wasting time but his love for it is unquestioned. You're right on the money. To be fair Murray definitely warmed up to Afterlife. They just took their time getting there. But I'm glad they did.

If we're being honest he phoned in his performance in ghostbusters and ghostbusters 2 as well; remember the looking at the camera scene? lol I'm not saying he's a bad actor or anything, I'm simply saying it's very on-brand for him and I can barely notice.
Man, it really is unfortunate that they didn't really make a third movie in '91 like the game is set in, but at least they tied up and kind of clarified the significance of Shandor's shenanigans.
I have to give it to Dan Aykroyd, he is giving a great VO performance in this game. The others feel somewhat uneven, but still not complaining.
Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson sounded energetic and invested and Brian Doyle Murphy chewed the scenery every single time for his VO 😆

When gozer did her flippy thing over the ghostbusters the movie and then they fire at her and she vanishes, that wasn’t their doing though they thought it was. Gozer transcended from its last chosen form into a realm where it had to take on a new one, the old form couldn’t exhaust outside of the gate way. Ergo “choose the form of the destructor.”

I remember playing this game when I was a kid on my PS3. I loved it since I also watched the movies. One thing I really loved about this game was the fact that they kept the Ghostbusters charm and humour but also had moments that I found genuinely creepy and scared 11 year old me! My first somewhat horror game!

I apologise that there are now two , brief muted sections (one during the credits anyway).
This is due to a soundtrack copyright claim from Sony Music Entertainment, totalling about 90 seconds of music.
I wouldn't mind a ContentID claim, my channel was completely de-monitised by UA-cam back in late 2018 anyway and they aren't going to re-enable it.
However, Sony decided to block the video worldwide. Still not a copyright strike, but no one could ever view the video again, so what's the point in that?
The extended cut is currently blocked world wide and UA-cam is being wonderful enough to keep throwing a "your edits cannot be saved" error to my efforts to address that, so all I can do is apologise.
*June 2019 edit - Sony have now unblocked the extended cut worldwide, so its at least visible again.*

Probably not. I severely doubt the Remastered version is going to add or enhance anything noteworthy to the original PC version used here. The benefits will mostly be apparent on consoles.

Columbia should have put this on DVD/Blu-Ray as Ghostbusters III.
This is the best game and third movie ever made I love it it's a lot more scarier since the gozer and Vigo days and the graphics are excellent and I can't wait for Ghostbusters Afterlife to come out.
Please take this and cut it to 1 hour and 45 minutes'ish, in a theatrical experience way for my attention span, besides that, this is great and Thank You. This is the Ghostbusters we didn't get as a movie.
Nope. Whilst I understand that situation, I'm afraid it is what it is (and the source files are now gone. This was edited from over 500GB of footage since I choose FRAPS quality over the compression of alternatives. Can't hold onto that much video forever).
It was difficult enough cutting it down to this amount (hence there being an extended version) since character development, plot details and jokes are spread throughout rather than presented in a tight fashion.
The script and pacing was put together for a 8 or so hour game experience, so cutting that down to 3 hours whilst keeping it coherent was always a challenge.
Just the cutscenes alone, with no in-game events to tie it together into an actual narrative, is about an hour long.
That's a shame, I'm sure someone will figure out a way to cut certain unnecessary parts out.. Was the whole revisit to the restaurant necessary?, you know this better than me, its your baby. I would however have liked this turned into a fan film, or even a Hollywood film staring a new cast portraying the fathers of the original cast. But sure, I guess I'll try to play the game again.
Blahhh There is a shorter version that clocked in at about 2hr 30 that I made back in 2011 and is still on my channel, though its in two parts and lower quality, both by age and being sourced from the Xbox 360.
I could have been more aggressive with cutting like in that video, but having already done that once, these are more like Directors Cuts with extra bits.
And it was just as good as the movie would be.
I think it could be possible to cut it down a little if some of the less cinematic game play featuring only the rookie were removed and any good lines the stars say from behind him or over the radio were saved and the audio slotted into other appropriate places. If I had the time I might try to do something like that myself just for fun.
But really, that's a great piece of work you have there. The cinematic bits of this game and the great dialogue really make me wish this script could have been made into an actual movie.

this is the true third movie those other ones were variations of this third movie. The girl team is 4 but idw's comic series takes place between the game and girl team movie and last october they had a cross over w the girl team and original and it explains why theres' other ghostbuster teams in alternate new yorks. There's an animated one coming (part 5) then another live action (part 6) and mine (almost written Part 7)

Better than GBII, the reboot of course and do far better than Jason Reitman's 2020 film, only time will tell if opinion changes on the quality of the 2009 game as the best third part of this series
In the behind the scenes interview with Harold Ramis before he passed away states that because they couldn’t get a third film the game is canonically the next bit of the series.

Yes it's canon. The opening credit at 1:50 ---Written by Akroyd, and Ramis. That's a confirmation to me It's genius, they made the player a new recruit, that way the G-Bags can be themselves.
I swear I thought this was made by Terminal Reality themselves. The positioning, camera angles during gameplay voiceovers, timing, Rookie actions, etc. are professional quality. I thought a studio made this movie out of the game. How did you get it all so perfect? PS: this is the real GB3 as many have said before.
Far from perfect, hahah... I did do a couple of practice runs to make a note of certain triggers, etc (and tried turning the cross hair off, but that led to way too many missed shots which I knew would annoy and frustrate people).
If I had access to full debug and camera tools, things would be pretty different.
BrySkye wow. As you know for almost everyone this is the real GB3. In a way you are the director / editor of GB3. I spoke to some of the coders of this game and while they are also superfans they said one thing which could have been better was if a cinematographer had been involved to make the lighting better. Some scenes feature just one light, harsh, etc. not very moody. But I don't care, it's awesome as it it. Maybe in the remake.
But yeah, if you had debug tools you could actually make camera angles, closeups, portrait shots, wide shots, etc. during the voiceovers.

Dan Akroyd publicly admitted that this game is, essentially, the 3rd Movie because most of the script that he and Harold Ramis had written for Ghostbusters 3 is in the game. They had to readapt some parts because it's in a video game format. The 3rd movie was meant to be a passing of the buck to a new, younger team member, which is the role you play in the game. I just downloaded the Remastered game on PS4. Getting ready to crack into it because I've never played it before. I have watched this video...or the other one like it (2hrs22min long) several years ago.

This is why I have problems with after life. HR worked hard on this sequel and set up an expanded universe via franchising until Ivan Reitmen uncanoned Harold's work so his son could remake the fist movie. Well I guess it's better than the 2016 abomination.

rw:funny thing on how the mayore mentioned about his parade,its because it was supposed to be a level in the game were you fight ghost parade floats and ballooned characters but sadly that idea was trashed.
If the game runs in 60fps it would be cool in the video.
I've explained the problems with that before.
The main one is that the game is made up of pre-rendered cutscenes (videos) as well as real-time cutscenes and gameplay.
The intro, for example, is pre-rendered and will always be 30fps no matter what. I'd rather not use a faux 60fps where Vegas/Premiere try to double up and blend frames.
Personally, I think if the video kept switching between 30 and 60fps between cutscenes and gameplay, that would be very noticeable and jarring. Every time a cutscene starts, you're going to really notice the framerate has been halved. Instead of that, this is a consistent framerate which, to be honest, is something most people will stop noticing after about 10 minutes unless they've let themselves become too accustomed to 60fps+.
On top of that, the game is very badly optimised on PC and is more CPU dependant than it should be for what it is.
Certain levels, like the library, are prone to stutters and frame drops when recording with a drop to between 45/60fps. A hardware solution like the h264 chip on my GPU couldn't deliver the quality I wanted and minimal compression alternatives like FRAPS need that the CPU cycles.
Despite that, I still had to resort to Shadowplay on the library, which is why that section of the video is slightly lower quality than the rest - it's second generation h264.

Because it's the second time I've put together a movie version of the game.
The first time was 5 years ago, using the Xbox 360 version. That meant 720p and it wasn't properly colour corrected so the whole image looked washed out.
It was also lower quality all around because it was put together based on the limitations of 2011 UA-cam, PC's and internet connections.

I think the 2011 version looks pretty crap now, so to mark 5 years, I remade it from scratch on the PC version, true 1080p etc.

The limiting factor on UA-cam is file size (128gb is the maximum) and not length.
"Ghostbusters: _we're ready to believe you!"_ that line was so obviously done in *_three_* separate takes in *_three_* separate sessions by three *_VERY_* separated people that it's just sad, man. what, they couldn't get all three in the room at once, even for a minute? i mean, i GET that the call of the cash was too much for Murray to turn down - he was likely paid an IMMENSE amount for what amounted to a few hours in some shitty LA recording studio, but he could he at _least_ have been in a game mood? he sounds like he's Harrison Ford, reading the "Happy", studio-mandated ending to Blade Runner, or something. sigh.
That is a copy of the original audio from the ad in the first Ghostbusters movie. That is the entire point, for it to sound like a badly edited cheap tv commercial that you might see watching TV at 4 in the morning. There was always a degree of scaminess to the Ghostbusters. They could be telling the truth, or they could just be 4 wise guys who are robbing you blind with made up ghost stories. We know as viewers that they are telling the truth but the rest of the world at large in the movie doesnt.

From what I remember, later stages of the campaign had so many targets, they were geared more towards super leveled-up aircraft that required a huge amount of hours (and or money) to really be affective.
