  • The Milwaukee Road 261 runs an annual train called The North Pole Express at Saint Paul Union Depot. In order for this steam engine to reach Union Depot, they first had to build, switch out, and turn their train. In this video, we'll get some neat closeup views of the Milw 261 as it works around the shop, and eventually makes its way to Saint Paul.
In this video, we'll chase the famous Milw 261 from Mpls Jct, and towards Union Depot. This beautifully restored locomotive was a sight to see, and sounded AMAZING chugging past, while pulling the diesel, and passenger cares.

man seeing the steam locomotive moving by itself down the main is such an odd sight, especially at night.

261 is easily one of the best looking steamers ever. Streamlined and non-streamlined, the Milwaukee Road had some fabulous looking steamers.

Goodness I wish I would have been out there more but college was in the way. Oh well. At least I was still able to catch it at the depot.

Sure is a shame 261 didn't get to do much this year, though I can understand why seeing how the Friends of 261/RHOMA have been busy in Illinois with rebuilding the shop complex while alongside the UP equipment such as 3985 and many passenger cars too. Still, even if 261 only ran 1 week for Christmas this year over 2, I'm glad someone got to film it for many to watch and observe.

I'm sure it'll run more in the future, but like you stated, I bet they are busy with other projects as well. Its always a treat to see the 261 rolling down the rails. Thanks for watching!

It’s an ATSF 6 chime, it’s used commonly on 3751, 2926, and 3415 which are all Santa Fe engines.

It's the 261's original whistle it was built with. It's a horrible sounding whistle, which is why the 6 chime Santa Fe whistle is the one used. The original three chime whistle functions via air actuation just like an air horn, which means one setting: full blast. It gets used here and there, but mainly the 6 chime and air horn.
