In addition to shop towels in intake, I like to use 2" tape covering the enitre opening. You can use a anti-vibration thread sealer all in one on the bolts as an option. No clutch cover dowels?? Always nice to start with a clean slate, all parts and work area clean. 👍
Yeah, I think that tape would work a little better, next time! This clutch does not use dowels, the clutch bolts have a shoulder on them to hold the clutch like the dowels would have done. :)
You should make some of your videos longer! I know a lot of people like shorter videos but real car guys can watch this kind of content for hours, especially during the winter months! 30-45 minute videos would be great!
My videos are geared more towards how-to and less about entertainment. This is partially to make them relevant years from now, instead of something that was funny 10 years ago. I've been thinking about trying to both how-to and also "fun" videos, but it's tough to come up with content, and since I've done 99.9% of these cars by my self, things can only be so funny when you're by yourself, you ready need another person in the shop to expand on those kinds of videos. And since I work a normal job, it really limits the available time I have to make videos, especially if I want a friend to join in. :)

But to second what rusty said, if you did ever do longer videos I'd watch them too, even though I'm not quite sure on what detail you could add since you add plenty already. brilliant idea to put the driver side header on first, I never would have thought of it!... even though you said at the very end of your last video you were going to put both headers on AFTER the motor is in . AWW just messing with yeah looking good and good job on your channel boss.

I've gotten confident moving shit around in the engine bay. excited but sad that ur moving on from the 289 for obvious bias reasons, but who wouldn't wanna swap the 289 for a 347. clean ride and ill always be watchin ur videos. cheers!

I try to keep the entertaining stuff for the videos and keep the boring stuff out as to not force people to watch something that requires little to no skill. I try to balance interesting content with "this is good for people to know'" kind of content, and frankly some of this stuff is neither. Lastly, there are some tasks that really could be done a 100 different ways and my way of doing some of those tasks may not be the correct way or the best way. I'm just like everyone else and I can get a little lazy with some things and I have no interest in showing that stuff as the finished product is sometimes more important than the journey. :)

There's nothing easy about video publishing on UA-cam. I have video documented a bunch of stuff on my Harley's over the years. And sometimes making the video I didn't enjoy working on the Harley as much. Definitely super nice if you can keep that balance and still enjoy the work on the car and build a brand at the same time and make some parts and sell them I think it's all good man keep going. I'm still searching for a Mustang I haven't found the right one I don't want one that is turn key and done too much and I don't want one that needs major restored. Looking to find something in that middle ground that I could drive around and work on little bit.
next time install your block plate, flywheel, and clutch on the motor when you install it, saves yourself a hour of fighting and torquing it under the car!. nice build
Great attention to detail Andy. It took discipline to take that transmission back out and re-install it again. Better safe than sorry. Looking forward to you firing it up. Keep up the great videos and it never hurts to make a punch list so small details are not forgotten. (I have a tendacy to think of small details that need to be done and then get caught-up in something else).
Thanks! I do use punch lists. In fact, they're a spreadsheet where I get to add the number of bolts, the tool needed for that bolt removal, and any other notes I might need. :)

I don't know where the line should be for sharing too much info (whether it's inappropriate or blurs the line for Doxing myself) and I don't yet know how to blend a "how-to" channel with an entertainment channel. I'm still a nobody in the Classic Mustang world and definitely in the UA-cam world, but it might be cool to put out a survey on what other info people want to know without bogging down their "How to adjust part X" video. :)

Andy...just found your channel...great work! Really interested in the dual fan setup. Any chance you know the overall dimension of the "thinkness" of the fan/shroud after your mods? I put a 390 into my 67 Mustang and have run into the same issue you did with the water pump pulley and the single fan motor.
Max thickness is 5.5", but the thickness where your water pump pulley is located is on 4.75". This is because the extra thickness for the two electric fans are not in the middle of the Rad, they're off to each side, giving a little bit of space back to you for your water pump pulley to be located. :)

Enjoying your videos. How do you like the T5? I just picked up my 1st mustang, 4 spd. Shifting is vague. I usually get 3rd when going for 1st. Don't know if it's the linkage, the box, or just the nature of the beast. But I suspect the T5 would be crisper.
Thanks! I really enjoy the smooth shifting of the T5, but also the overdrive. I put one in my last Mustang (upgrading from the T10 4 speed) and it was buttery smooth the whole time. I doubt it's the linkage causing your issue as I had that same problem on my 4 speed. It took me a little bit to get that muscle-memory of where 1st was. :)
@@bryanpiereson8083 I don't know of anyone selling a kit, partially because different cars require slightly different parts, and some parts can be pulled from the existing car where other parts may not be salvageable. I do know that Modern Driveline has all the individual parts you'd need. I also have a few videos on my channel of how to do the swap and the parts needed. Check them out. :)

Got orders for Germany and sold the car due to the high cost of storage for a 3+ year tour. Living my dream build watching your progress videos. Q: did you dial in (align the bellhousing / transmission) with the new engine? T5's have specific alignment tolerances and will wear out quickly if out of spec.
Have you seen those Jba long tube headers that work with a t5 cable set up for 65 and 66 Stang’s? There’s two versions. 1-5/8 primaries or 1-3/4 primaries. Also where did you get the trans scissor lift? Great content by the way
I know there are several headers (Long and Tri-Y) that fit with the cable option (MDL has a list on their site), but most of them are outside my budget. If I had it my way, I would have purchased FPA Tri-Y headers, but they're over 3x the price I paid for these shorties. Maybe someday..... :) Trans scissor lift was from Harbor Freight, I paid about $135 for it.
hi Andy , great video as always , I’ve been reading about the T5 and it’s fragility when increasing the output of the motor , do you have any thoughts ?
The fragility of this trans is absolutely on my mind, but I'll be fine for a few reasons. When I was doing the rebuild on my T5, I upgraded and replaced some of the known failure points with better parts. The trans is rated for about 330 ftlbs of torque, but that's the rated value and it can absolutely see more but it depends on how and when you apply that higher Tq value. If decided to spend my time doing 5k clutch drops, I'll shred the trans in no time. Maybe not on the first try, but sending all the TQ I've got to a stationary gear system all at once is exactly how I'll break it. However, if I need to do a sweaty burnout, feathering the clutch as I send all that power through the trans will push that breaking point out to a later date, much later. And that's the worst of it, because while I'm driving, everything is moving and "happier" when higher TQ values are being seen by the trans. Even some spirited driving will be fine, because everything is already turning inside the trans and I'm not dumping all the power on a single tooth that isn't ready for it. These trans have been used in road race cars for decades with essentially the same internal parts I'm using and high power applications. Long story short, as long as I limit my 5k clutch drops, this trans will be just fine. But if not, it's an opportunity to upgrade and more content for my channel!! :)

Andy, Just curious if you checked to see if the bellhousing is within the .005 spec of run out needed for the T-5 transmission so that the input shaft will not be under any excess stresses to the tapered bearings. When the bellhousing is found to be out of spec, it is necessary to use offset dowel pins to correct the bellhousing location. I will be installing a T-5 this winter and I've been watching videos about indexing the bellhousing. If you have also watched videos about this check, is it something you feel is necessary? Thank you for all the videos you have published.
Tremec recommends the measuring for total run-out, and I too have seen videos where they measure it. I have no interest in the liability of telling someone not to do it, but I did not measure for run-out.
Well hopefully your bellhousing is within spec or your T-5 will feel the stresses. Side note: I never imagined that a disclaimer for liability was needed or I would have worded my question differently. I'm sorry my wording put you in that position. Too bad that the US court system has devolved to a point where car enthusiasts have to state disclaimers to each other.
For now I'm sticking with the stock pump. I'd like to upgrade to a pump with a little higher flow rate, but my engine builder says the stock unit is sufficient. :)

Have you decided on which fuel pump your installing. Just curious because I have very similar setup with an Edelbrock pump. Thank you

How did your larger oil pan fit with your steering linkage? Close to rub?
Zero issues, fits fantastic. I was concerned that the crossmember bar might hit, but there's plenty of clearance. :)
What size is your radiator and what about the fans? I ask because I got my 66 with a 3 row aluminum radiator and I only got one fan on it

Why does he not use flywheel dowels?
Because the pressure plate I have doesn't accept them, they use shouldered bolts. :)
What distributor are you using?
The stock style, same unit I had in my 289.
